This funeral home is average sized. It's a bit out of date but very accommodating, great service provided by the staff. There was no "grief room" but I think that's the least of the issues if this is the result of the crisis. Bathrooms during visits are a bit sub par in my opinion. Wouldn't mind having my funeral here either.

An 8-hour wait is not "service"--it is professional negligence and a violation of human dignity. I am officially filing a Motion for Reconsideration to challenge this dismissal immediately as of today (5-15-26). Furthermore, I am bringing this to the Illinois Attorney General's Consumer Fraud Bureau today as well. This business is not just negligent; they are predatory. I have evidence of suspicious 5-star reviews being posted by people connected to the home (like "Jerry") specifically to bury the truth and gaslight grieving families. If they put half as much effort into timely service as they do into reputation management and cover-ups, we wouldn't be here. Bob received recognition from the President of the United States for the life he led--he deserved better than to be left waiting for 8 hours by an unscrupulous business that clearly has no respect for the dead or the living. This fight is just starting.) (UPDATE March 2026: I have officially submitted supplemental evidence to the IDFPR investigation, including a formal letter of condolence from the President of the United States acknowledging Bob's life and values. It is a sad irony that the highest office in our country saw fit to recognize Bob with dignity, while this funeral home couldn't even manage a timely or professional pickup on the night he passed. The contrast between national respect and local neglect is staggering.) (UPDATE December 2025: A formal complaint has been filed with the State of Illinois (IDFPR) for professional negligence on McKenzie Funeral Home's role regarding the 8+ hour delay and undignified handling of the deceased. The state is currently investigating.) Original Review: After my boyfriend passed away, his body was left for up to 8 hours even though we, his family, had called McKenzie funeral home shortly after he died to pick up his body. They simply didn't show up til 9 AM even though we had called around 1 AM that same morning/night. We had to see his body sitting there for hours, it was extremely traumatic and when they finally went to pick up his body that morning they told me it was a mistake that they didn't come earlier but I think this is unacceptable, highly disrespectful, and shouldn't happen to anyone else. What about his dignity? Nobody should be left slumped over a chair for hours and hours. It was so messed up.

We came here for Memorial Day weekend, and the grass was at my calves! I have short legs but still,…read morethat's not good! The gravestones lay flat here instead of upright like in Oakwood so one has to look down and walk a lot to find anyone. Some graves were nearly covered up altogether, and a LOT of water was around. We asked the crew about the lawn, and of course they mentioned that the water made it hard to maintain. Our grandmother had a vase in the ground that we requested to be dug out because it seemed to be either sunken or missing. They told us that people steal the vases, and we can't buy another one because they don't sell them anymore. Seriously? Where are we supposed to put flowers? Some gravestones have built in holes for flowers, balloons, etc. so maybe that's what people who choose to come here need to do.

I did not see any displaced stones, litter, standing water or other problems. I did see drainage grates. They do have a policy that the office door is locked and visitors are requested to call the phone number posted - their main number. I did so, told them the names I was looking for and a few minutes later a lady came out with computer print outs with maps of the grave locations. If there is difficulty locating a grave, they will dispatch a grounds worker to help find it, which they did twice for me. (I missed the obvious.) There is a self-service kiosk to look up grave locations but it was not working. At one time wooden lot marker stakes were placed, but those have not been maintained so some are broken, lost or too faded to read. So, my experience that day was good but time will tell if that continues.
