As part of our Backroads trip, we took the ferry to Lévis. Buying tickets and boarding were easy, and we enjoyed the ride across the St. Lawrence River. This was recommended by most Quebec blogs and itineraries, so we thought we we would try it . It is inexpensive just over $4.00 per person and the boarding process is quick and inefficient. Cars are allowed on the ferry. There is plenty of seating inside and out, and there are two levels . The day we went it was a bit overcast, but the views of Old Quebec City , Governor's Promenade and Chateau Frontenac were wonderful. Most of the travelers on the ferry were tourists and riding the ferry for fun. It was well worth it to sit and enjoy the views. read more

Having read in more than one place that the Quebec-Lévis ferry is something one should do I did it. I won't say it was bad but neither will I say it's a must. A few days earlier a guide at a place in Old Quebec had mentioned hailing from Lévis and literally described it as a place with nothing to do and no reason to go. My readings had indicated that the sole reason to go was to see the view of Quebec City from the ferry so when the ferry landed in Lévis seeing Lévis wasn't amongst my desires. The ferry is inexpensive and tickets are purchased on site before boarding. Crossing the St. Lawrence to Lévis takes less than 20 minutes and the ride is pleasant and stable. With lots of outdoor (and indoor) seating, feeling the breeze is as good a reason as any for a ride. At Lévis one must disembark the ferry regardless of whether a return trip is planned. Taking only a brief look at the town - from the ferry terminal - provided ample information that there was no real reason for me to hang out there. If I'd missed this ferry ride - and the view of the city from the river - I'd not have been disappointed but having done it, I have no regrets. read more

For anyone that is visiting Quebec, you should take this ferry ride to be able to capture the city lights at night. Best to take this about 30 minutes before the sun sets. It's about $4.05 one way for ages 16-64. There are other fares depending on your age group. They also transport cars to the Levis side if you want to drive around the island. We just did the round trip to see the Quebec skyline at night. The ride across is about 15 minutes. If you have time, I would recommend going over to the Levis side earlier so you can walk around for a bit and then catch the sunset ferry back to Quebec. read more

Uhm, why on earth are people saying this activity is a "must" when in Quebec? I mean, we didn't crash, and the ferry was pretty clean. But it's not interesting or beautiful or romantic, all of which were things other people said/wrote about this ferry ride! At least it was only $4.15 Canadian each way. The ride was 10 mins one way and 12 mins returning. You must disembark the ferry before returning. Nothing wrong with the ride exactly, but it literally floats you to the other shore and back. I thought that we were at least going downriver a bit! And who is saying this takes 20 mins? I timed it exactly, and it's far shorter. Oh, and here's a tip -- the top deck is a great place if you want to inhale diesel fumes. If you need this for transportation, it works. But please don't take the ferry as an actual activity on your holiday because it'll be a waste of your time. I'd give it 4 stars as pure transportation (that diesel is nasty), but I'd like to give it 0 stars as an activity in and of itself. read more

The ferry is a great way to get a view of Quebec City. You can rent bikes in Levis next to the visitor center. You can ride 9 miles on a bike trail to a dam/waterfall. There's an ice cream shop across the street from ferry in Levis. There is a splash pad. read more

Great views of Quebec and Levis on the cheap! Bonus points if you take the ferry at sunset. Pretty short ride (about 20 minutes one way) but there was plenty of indoor seating and outdoor space for photo opportunities. Good people-watching spot too, as the ferry seems to be used by locals before and after work. read more

My recent trip to Quebec was delightfully punctuated by my visit to Traversier Quebec-Levis. By all means, take the quick ferry ride (under $4 one way) across the river to the small fountain park and have a seat and RELAX. The ferry accommodates walkers, bike riders, and drivers. Easy ticket purchase - don't forget to drop it in the box after you buy it - and convenient restrooms and vending machines nearby while you wait for the ferry. My one regret is not having ridden at night for the view of Old Quebec reflected in the water - must be stunning. I would recommend this wonderful day trip to anyone looking for a simple, enjoyable, and inexpensive experience meant to cool you out and make you smile. read more

I have been living in Eastern Canada for three years now, based in Montreal, and this was my third time in Quebec; first time during winter. I have crossed and followed the Saint Lawrence to the Great Lakes and as far east as the New Brunswick border but this was my first time ON the St Lawrence! And at this time of the year it was amazing. Couldn't have picked a better day. The tide was still coming in during our first crossing. Coming back it had stopped, and by the time we were on land again it was going out. Something mesmerizing about watching great chunks of ice and snow drift upstream, apart the still novel sight of large frozen rivers. (am from Vancouver) The ferry is public transit and costs 3.50$! each way. Just stunning to get out onto the river and to see the city from the mighty St Lawrence. After seeing the city through a bird's eye view from atop the Concorde Hotel for lunch, this was our fish's eye view. We planned our trip so as to miss local rush hours. On the return trip to the Old City we watched a few fellas in wetsuits out on the ice pushing and navigating a tiny boat across a little further down river...ballsy. Highly recommend. Takes about an hour for the round trip. read more

A terrific way to cross the St Lawrence Seaway between lower Quebec City and Levis. The ferry is a large ship with several decks, and has inside and outside seating. The trip takes about a half hour each way, and offers terrific scenery of the hilly areas around Quebec City and a nice view of the skyline. Six and a half bucks round trip. read more

Nice way to see Quebec City from a different angle out from the river on this inexpensive ferry ride. It takes less than 15 minutes to go over to Levis across the river. The ferry is clean and has some vending machines for snacks, soda and coffee. You can sit inside or outside on two floors. Over at Levis there is not much to do by the port, but it is worth it just taking the ferry for the views. In day time the ferry departs every 30 minutes. read more

The fare is around $3.55 (ages 12-64) for a one way ride. The ferry is clean and has both indoor and outdoor seating. I personally thought the inside was a bit stuffy, so I stood out on the deck to catch the best views. The front end of the main deck only has one bench, but the ride is a quick 15 minutes one way. The ferry is a great and reliable way to get across the river and check out the city skyline. I did see some people taking the ferry for what seems like their daily work commute, so the ferry is really just more of a mode of transportation than a tourist boat where somebody announces and points out all the exciting landmarks for you. I just wish the fare was slightly cheaper for the short ride. read more

The ferry across and back is about $7 Canadian and totally worth it. It's super beautiful! I found the sunsets were incredible while in QC, and I planned to go during sunset. It was rainy a bit, but when the clouds broke open...the beauty of the sunset over Old Town and the port was gorgeous. Plan on a hour to go there and back. read more

It's a ferry ride. No frills, nothing special. I think the ride lasted about 8 minutes total. The station is air-conditioned on both sides of the bank so that was nice considering it was a hot day. Nice views of Quebec from the other side. Not much to do on the other side so we got off and got right back on the ferry back to Quebec. read more

I had read many reviews about how this ferry ride is a must. I must say I was disappointed. One of the things I was expecting was to be able to take the ride during sunset. Well the ferry only operates every hour on the hour after 6 pm. So, if sunset is at 7:30 you would miss seeing it from the ferry. Also, if you go to the other side of the river after 5 pm most shops are closed. The one positive of the ride is that you get a beautiful view of the Chateau and Old Quebec. read more
