AIG Travel Guard is a scam. I filed a legit claim after my trip was interrupted due to military orders--which their policy claims to cover. They denied me because my leave was approved one day after the coverage date, even though the trip itself was covered. My adjuster, Luke Peterson (855-266-4976), was rude and unhelpful. They're stalling, denying real claims, and hoping people give up. Don't waste your money. I'm disputing the charge and reporting them everywhere. Run far from this company. read more

I had a minor issue with my rental car while in Italy recently, less than a $500 claim and I have been fighting with them for 6 weeks now. I've given them endless documents, pictures and emails and they just keep asking for more. The latest is the original rental agreement from Hertz which I've been telling them I don't have, both they and I have contacted Hertz and they don't have it either. Never again with them, I would definitely have taken the insurance directly from Hertz if I knew how this was going to drag out. And keep in mind, Hertz required me to pay for the damages at the time I returned the vehicle so I'm trying to get reimbursed. Unbelievable! read more

My family had been looking forward to our stay at the Surety Hotel in Des Moines. We purchased Travel Guard insurance for the trip. While on a road, we received devastating news that an immediate family member was gravely ill. We understood and accepted that our same-day cancellation wouldn't be refunded. However, we also had a second reservation scheduled for two weeks later, which we needed to cancel as well due to the ongoing emergency. We were shocked to learn that in order to receive a refund for that second reservation--canceled well in advance--we would be required to provide either a letter from a doctor or a death certificate. Despite the insensitivity of that request during a crisis, we complied and later submitted a copy of the death certificate. What happened next was appalling: we were told that because the date of death occurred after the cancellation, we did not qualify for a refund. While we also take issue with the Surety Hotel, Travel Guard insurance was purchased for events exactly like this and they have not honored their commitment. I would not use them again. The airline change the flight that we had insurance on. We had the option to cancel, so we did, choosing another airline. We had a travel guard policy for the first flight. When I emailed travel guard to explain what happened, they would only offer a voucher for what we paid towards a future policy since it was outside of their 15 day change policy. The hitch was that if the new policy was less than the voucher, travel guard kept the difference. I tried to appeal to a supervisor, but no go there either. We have used Allianz in the past and had to file a claim and they were great. read more

About 6 weeks ago, my family of 4 found ourselves impacted by a European strike. Our flight to Paris was cancelled as we were headed to dinner on our last night of a cruise. I called Travel Guard as we walked into the dining room. Within 2 hours, they called back with options & we chose replacement flights back home. I immediately began mitigating losses, cancelling whatever I could: hotels, excursions, etc. I settled back into our flight 18 hrs later, knowing Travel Guard would take care of us. And they did. I submitted our claim within a few days of getting back home. And voila! Today, I received a check for every penny we were owed. One word of advice: Be VERY organized! Keep original flights, all emails, all communication with cancelled flights, accommodations, bike tours, EVERYTHING! It served me well as I had to provide most of it in my claim. Love Travel Guard! Viking cruise lines cancelled our rivercruise from Basel to Amsterdam on June 26th. The cruise was booked for September 9th, 2025. My dad had booked a trip from Miami to Las Vegas and he booked it in July to September in August my grandfather had to get surgery for the same dates that the trip was scheduled for. I got in contact with the agency and they told me to go ahead and cancel the trip and make a claim and that it would get refunded in a couple of weeks. I file the claim August 8, 2025. I heard back from the claim adjuster on September 2nd, 2025. The claim adjuster said a completely different thing then the companies customer service. The adjuster said that he couldn't receive a refund due to the surgery being foreseen. Do you think if he knew about the surgery he would book a trip for the same date as his fathers surgery and cancel it and loose money? We purchased insurance for an international trip as we have many times with this company. Days before we were to leave our son unexpectedly died. We obviously had to cancel this trip to deal with the anguish and trauma of losing our son and to take the needed time to greive and have his funeral service. If his death was not difficult enough, travel guard then began the ridiculous interrogation process to acquire endless documents and details. We of course provided all of these documents to them along with physician notes regarding our inability to travel during this time. We were only seeking reimbursement for me, my wife and daughter, not any compensation for my son. These documents did nothing to help us, they were just collected and used against us. Travel Guard then did a masterful job in using random exclusion clauses to state that if the medical condition or symptoms did not require a 24 hour stay in a hospital that it did not qualify. They then showed their true colors of discrimination regarding mental health conditions when they stated that if any "mental health" symptoms were being treated that you would need to be hospitalized for 5 days to qualify. Our crushing grief and dispair was not severe or debilitating enough because we were not hospitalized. After all, if your sons dies unexpectedly you should just be able to jump on a plane before his funeral and leave according to these exclusion clauses. During this entire process it was obvious that they had no intention of reimbursing us the money. They were cold hearted, ruthless and very transactional. I will never use this callus company again! What good is travel insurance if you have to be an attorney to present your claim and defend it. Check the hundreds of evaluations on the internet. This company and their product are rated just over a 1. Many would give a rating of zero if that was an option. Their coverage brochures are deceptive. Read the actual policy and check the definitions, exclusions and conditions. The claim process is painful. I believe they deliberately make the process difficult and time consuming so that many claimants elect not to pursue payment. I had to threaten them with a formal complaint to the State Insurance Commissioner just to resolve my claim. Filing a claim online is difficult. I was given a link to file my claim only to find the page expired. I then called and received a return call and given the wrong address to file my claim. Finally I was able to email the completed claim forms. Their online claim status link does not get updated in a timely manner. Speaking directly to the claim handler is almost impossible. Next time I will try a different carrier other than an AIG company. read more

I rented a car through Expedia and bought "their" collision insurance, which was AIG Travel Guard. I didn't read the fine print, which stated that "This policy is unable to cover the Administration Fees, Damage Appraisal Fee, Continued Rental Expense and Diminishment of Value as they are not eligible expenses under this policy." Long story short, I lightly scuffed the fender of the rental car against a curb. After months of providing paperwork to Travel Guard's claim agent (GlobalExcel), they agreed to cover $1,728 of $3,335 Canadian. Question: who would by insurance for a rental car that doesn't cover the loss of rental income in case of an accident? ME! Thank god I didn't have a real accident - I'd be bankrupt. I have acquired travel insurance from AIG. During my flight, I lost my suitcase. When it was located two days after my arrival at the destination, several items were missing. I contacted the lost and found department at the airport to inform them of the situation. They recovered my suitcase two days later, but it still had missing items. After reaching out to AIG after returning from my trip, my experience has been extremely frustrating. The adjuster, named "Collins," has contacted me requesting either new documents or the same documents I have already submitted. I suspect that AIG employees may be engaging in unethical practices to dissuade claimants from pursuing their claims. I have provided all necessary documentation and even shared my bank transactions related to the purchase, which was unusual because I have submitted the invoice receipts. Nevertheless, they are instructing me to pursue the airline on my own. This feels like a scam! I purchased a round trip flight from Nashville, TN BNA airport to Portland, ME PWM airport from 16 September 2023 to 24 September 2023; and purchased a Travel Guard Plan from AIG at the same time. The day before I was scheduled to leave I got a call from the airline that my flight to PWM was cancelled due to weather as a result of Hurricane Lee. The airline re-booked me for free to the closest available airport Boston-Logan, MA BOS, and from there I rented a car and completed my trip. Upon returning I filed a trip interruption claim with AIG. Trip interruption due to weather is a covered event according to the policy. I submitted the letter from the airline stating the flights were cancelled due to weather along with all the receipts that coincide with the trip interruption. As of the date of this review (14 November 2023) AIG has still not resolved the claim. I get repeated requests for "Required Documents: VERIFICATION DESTINATION MADE INACCESSIBLE DUE TO HURRICANE." (That is copied directly from their e-mail.) Repeated calls to customer service and no one can tell me what the burden of proof is that they need. Apparently correspondence from the airline, coupled with every news outlet in America reporting on that hurricane is not enough. In my opinion, AIG makes their product sounds great to travelers looking for piece of mind, however when it is time to pay a claim they find a way to weasel their way out of it. "Cancel for any reason" they say. "But that doesn't mean your claim will be approved." (They should add that statement to their catchphrase!) Or it should be "But your claim will most likely be denied." Because more often than not, your claim WILL BE DENIED. So many cautionary tales about not using Travel Guard, but here's another one. I had a trip to Vegas next month for a reunion of sorts with friends, but someone in our party suddenly came down with COVID-19 like symptoms and put us in a bit of a tight situation. He is coming from abroad and with pandemic restrictions in that country as well as the ones we have here in the United States, given the limited time allotted, he wasn't sure if he was going to make it at all. Naturally, we decided to cancel and reschedule for a future date. Because I was smart enough to insure my flight, I didn't think it that big of a deal getting a refund for said "insured" flight. Long story short, I got a response saying they're going to decline my claim because the person who got sick was not in my traveling party. To be fair, I should have read the fine print, so yeah, I take part to the blame. But you'd think they'd ease up more on these denials considering these pandemic times. BUT! This isn't the first time they've declined a claim. My parents took a trip to the Philippines and I made sure I insured their trip with Travel Guard as well. Pops ended up hospitalized while they were there, so I asked them to make sure to keep all receipts and bills and medical records. After almost a month of filing the claim (sending out doctor notes, faxing over paperwork, endless phone calls and emails) they also denied that claim for BS reasons. All that work for nothing. This certainly is the last time I'm using them. There's a reason why their rating is garbage. Heed everyone's advise: avoid Travel Guard. After my international flight was cancelled I filed a claim and was denied. I tried calling and emailing for 3 months to get clarification as to why my claim was not accepted. Once they called back after a few unhappy emails the individual was nice and explained why it got denied which I appreciated so I have been trying to resubmit my claim with more correct verbiage. I have tried submitting it on multiple computers, browsers, and wifi connections and the site wont allow my claim to go through. After I push submit the circle of doom continually spins which tells me there is most likely a technology issue with their website. Basically this company is not worth the hassle. I told him so many times I couldn't go to the travel for personal reasons that I already told them, (and one of the reasons they explained in their policy), but unfortunately, they decline my refund so many times. I took the trip with Uplift for $500., so I have to give that money back... I was explaining that was not my money that was a third-party company that I have to give the money back, but they never solve the problem. I really needed that refund, but they never care. I purchased AIG Travel Guard at the recommendation of my travel agent for a trip to AK. While we were there, a rate hurricane prevented us from getting to our destination. I submitted a claim in September. We are now past 5 months and my claim still has not been processed. I've followed up repeatedly, and get all sorts of apologies, but no answers. I filed a claim on 2/29/24 for a hotel reservation on 3/15/24. I got a denial for not submitting my claim within 15 days of the reservation. I am sure this requirement was stated somewhere in the paperwork I signed, but where I could not point out. If this had been clearly stated, I would have waited the 6 or so hours so I would be inside that 15-day window. I would avoid this company at all costs. read more
