I feel better packing an umbrella... just in case, and getting travel insurance. My recent trip to Iceland was a success, except our luggage stayed in Seattle. The team at Travel Guard couldn't have been more helpful. I got follow up's and updates. I was allowed to buy what I needed up to $400 if the luggage exceeded twelve hours delay. The bags came the end of the next day, but needed a warm jacket for the intense wind and cold. I've been home a week and received my reimbursement check today. read more

100% waste of money. We bookede a hotel through Expedia, and paid extra for the Travel Guard cancellation protection. The 2026 ice storm left us housebound so we had to cancel our reservation. Travel Guard then denied our "inclement weather,' claim, so we're out $160.00. I guess "ice," doesn't count as inclement weather? Bottom line....they will find a loophole or fine-print to deny your claim. Read the reviews and consider yourself lucky if they followed through. I booked a flight with insurance specifically so I'd be covered if I needed to cancel. With the East Coast weather and my responsibilities as my mother's caregiver, I wanted that security. I canceled out of concern for my mom and to rearrange my business obligations. Now Travel Guard is requiring documentation before they'll reimburse me. The whole thing feels like a money-making scam--creating extra obstacles for people who purchased coverage in good faith. I don't see why documentation should be necessary for a simple flight cancellation. I'm sure many others have dealt with this same nonsense. I am writing this review as someone who has purchased Travel Guard multiple times in the past. We have used them as insurance when booking trips. We had a bus trip planned earlier this month and unfortunately on the first day of the trip our dog at home suffered a back injury and was unable to use his rear legs. We had to make arrangements to return home to take care of our dog and get him into emergency surgery. We were told if he had surgery ASAP then there is a much greater chance that he would be able to walk. So, we had to cancel our trip and find transportation back home. Our dog was able to get the emergency surgery and is now doing much better in his rehab process. We were hoping that this insurance plan that we have taken out on multiple trips in the past would be able to help us out recoup some of our money since we had to leave our trip early due to a medical emergency. We filed a claim and heard back earlier this week. Unfortunately, we were denied. Travel Guard sent all of these relations that would've been approved for our situation but since it was our dog he was not covered under their terms. I find this to be ridiculous as someone who has always owned an animal. They are a part of your family as any other pet owner would agree. My wife and I were going to go on a Viking Cruise - I purchased trip insurance with Travel Guard. NEVER AGAIN ! I have been tryng to get my claim settled for over 6 weeks - and they continue to drag their feet and come up with additional documentation requirements. I provided sufficient completed forms filled-in and signed by the physician, yet still your team would not refund without me release all medical records. This was unnecessary and a forced violation of my HIPAA privacy in order to receive the refund. The medical forms completed by the physicians office should have been enough. HIPPA guidelines only require minimally necessary medical data as the standard. read more

They let us down this time given we had made a deposit on an upcoming cruise (our 11th) & spent a month with the cruise line finalizing a cabin for this upcoming cruise & missed their brief window from initial deposit to policy purchase. We even offered to submit the cruise line's medical form with our & a physician's signature, however, to no avail! They Said, "Sorry Loyal Customer" , & We Said, "Sayanora, TG"!! I would like to clarify that I utilized your services after having made a reservation by mistake (Expedia) and subsequently decided to cancel it. At that time, I received an email from you offering me this specific service to protect my trip and guarantee a full refund in the event that I cancelled. If you have no genuine intention of meeting your customers' needs, why do you send emails offering this service? Is it merely to steal our money? Because, as far as I am concerned, that is exactly what this amounts to: theft of both my money and my time. How can you possibly claim that the cancellation of my trip does not constitute a valid reason for a refund? After all, that is precisely the main reason you offer this coverage in the first place. You have to be truly brazen to come and tell me something like that; insurance companies always resort to the same tricks: they simply steal their customers' money. You send me an email featuring a "benefits" section and all that other bullshit you invent, yet when it comes to actually collecting the money from the customer, you fail to explain *any* of the sections whatsoever. My experience with Travel Guard varied from a plus 2 to a minus 5. I have had to wait weeks for my anger to die down sufficiently for me to give a factual review. I contributed to this debacle when I made airline reservations and a hotel reservation with Orbitz, which I will never do again, and somehow got a second Travel Guard policy for that phase of our trip. We were going to Thailand to spend a week on a live-aboard dive boat, with a couple of days at both ends to recover from the previous phase. The major policy covered from the west coast to Thailand, the resorts at both ends and the dive boat. On the flight to Singapore, I developed a medical condition that caused great pain and caused me to limp severely. After a couple of days in Thailand before we boarded the boat, I went to a hospital where the doctor told me not to dive. We cancelled the rest of the trip and re-scheduled our return. We had to re-schedule flights to the west coast but had to stay at the resort for three more days. I had to reschedule our hotel on the west coast and our flight home, both at added expense. We could not get refunds for hotel stays after the boat. This claim was submitted but, since there were two policies, I had to deal with two adjusters. They were able to deflect responsibility as a result. I never knew who was handling which claim. Both adjusters were claiming that this was a trip delay, not a trip interruption, which would reduce their liability. I sent increasingly longer letters to them, ending up with a seven-page letter with 28 attachments. This only resulted in them sending me checks totaling about 10% of what I was claiming. This is an insurance company trick-hoping I would negotiate the checks and then claim that I had accepted them as full payment. Things got so frustrating that our travel agent sent some information to someone she knows at Travel Guard who could contact someone in the adjuster section. A supervisor sent me an e-mail, also claiming a trip delay. At least they did send me a check for the dive boat and one unreimbursed hotel reservation. This totaled about 2/3 of the amount I claimed. The fact that I could get only that much by using extraordinary means suggests that others who don't have that in get very little. To challenge the amount paid even further would have required me to hire an assessor and both sides claims are evaluated - but by whom? Then arbitration. So I cut my losses but will never use this company again. read more

I recently scheduled to take a continuing education course and purchased Travel Guard "Cancel for Any Reason Coverage" to protect my trip. What a mistake! The course was canceled and rescheduled by the class administrator due to weather (snow) and other administrative considerations outside of my control. My claim was denied as was the appeal after submitting all required documentation and weather notifications for the area. I had to pay for 3 nights at a hotel that I did not use. I am writing to express my deep dissatisfaction with your service. During our recent trip to Nepal, we were caught in a civilian and government war and it was terrifying for us. And contacted your team to confirm if the cost of changing our return tickets would be covered under unforeseen circumstances. Based on your representative's assurance, we proceeded to change our tickets at a total cost of $602 for two tickets. If you need more information please listen to the phone recording. However, when we later submitted our claim, it was denied -- stating that such costs are not covered. This is completely unacceptable and misleading. We relied on your representative's information in good faith, and now we are left bearing the full expense due to inconsistent and unclear communication from your side. A really bad company to insure your travel. I have twice sent in documentation that the claims Adjuster has now asked for 3 times. The process to have a claim processed is atrocious. People just don't appear to review attachments carefully, even when pertinent information is highlighted. This might be a ploy to have people like me give up on their claims. read more

Waste of money. My son was not able to travel because he got sick. Submitted the claim and all documents including form filled by my son's doctor. The claim wasn't processed because the doctor used a white corrector at one place in the form. The doctors are busy, it took her two weeks to fill the forms on the first place, and I don't even feel like bothering her again with non medical questions. Called the Travel Guard company and they said I am not eligible to speak to them because my son turned 19 and is not minor anymore (even I bought both the insurance and the tickets and trying to reimburse my money). Very frustrating experience. Will never buy it again. read more

Not only did they refuse to issue a refund for a canceled flight without a ton of paperwork and medical records, but they also went out of their way to make the entire claims process as frustrating and confusing as possible. The worst. I had to cancel a trip to San Francisco because my friend mother was admitted to the hospital overseas and I now have nowhere to stay. The airlines gave me a partial credit but there is still $181 balance. After having to fill out the claims twice they wanted me to contact the hospital in Ireland and have them fill out the form stating the woman was indeed admitted. I am not going to bother my friend about her 87 year old mother who is probably dying. I will never buy this insurance again. It is a waste of time and money. read more

Please go with another insurance company or use your own insurance when renting a car. This place is a rip off and they are money hungry and do not care about the customer. I used them for insurance while renting a vehicle. I booked it for 31 days because I didn't know how long I would have the car. Long story short, it was for 5 days. Totaling $10 a day but they charged my card for the whole 31 days, totally $310. I called and explained to them that I only had the rental vehicle for 5 days and could I receive reimbursement for the unused days. They said, they cannot. I said, so you are going to charge me insurance for a vehicle that I do not have and they said yes. Worse customer treatment ever. I will never use them again. read more

DELY, DENY, and DEFEND. We traveled for 6 months and purchased Travel Guard insurance for the whole trip. We spent thousands but had used them last year with good results. NOT so this year. Due to a serious illness followed by a death in the family our trip was disrupted more than once. We returned from our trip on April 22 and within a few weeks we filed multiple claims. Today is July 31st and, as far we know, not a single claim has been paid. At least 20 emails so far asking for additional information, we responded to every one. They ask for info to be submitted online but we get errors accessing the site and NO ONE in 20-plus phone calls has been able to fix this. And it gets worse... Our adjuster, Terri, has now combined our claims into groups of claims. Because we can't go online we have to call again to find out which new claim number goes with a certain old claim number. And then do nothing because we can't go online and enter info anyway. To Terri and AIG: It's obvious why you combined the claims. DELAY, DENY, DEFEND. If there's a question about one claim, they can now delay paying multiple claims. It's almost criminal. STAY AWAY from this company. They may pay you $20 medicine bill or a doctor visit but hope that nothing serious happens read more

I did not realize travel insurance coverage was so pathetic until I tried to use it. Unless you get sick before about one in ten trips, it will not be worth your money. Frankly, it's fraud, and the travel agencies should be ashamed that they push coverage when you purchase trips from them. Eventually everyone will realize this and the market will push companies like Travel Guard/AIG out because they offer a poor service. I would recommend spending that extra money on tickets that can be changed or refunded if needed without a lengthy and frustrating claims process.
