Have done running tours in Philadelphia and it's a great way to see the sights on foot. I'm glad when major cities offer such a tour. Food tours, mural arts, walking are all great too but running was my chance to take a break midweek from the sciencing and networking. Joe had several tours available on the weekends but I was able to do one on a Wednesday evening as part of the summer schedule. As I caught a Lyft from St. Charles during rush hour to the meeting spot at Kierney Plaza, Joe was understanding if I was a little late start. Turns out I was the only runner signed up so it became more like a personalized tour. What I loved was hearing Joe's vast knowledge of St. Louis along the way, and his passion for running. He even carried a camera and took photos throughout. Of course we stopped at the arch, but also Lacledes Landing, the riverfront, bridge, Lewis and Clark statue, the ballpark, Citygarden sculptures, City Museum, and other neat houses/buildings even after the sun went down. The price for the downtown tour included the photos (via Dropbox), bottled water and a t-shirt. I forget the exact distance but the pace was comfortable enough for conversation. Had fun out on the road, exploring! There's a lot to be said about opting for the active, outdoor, fun option while traveling for conferences. Happy to have chosen the road less traveled! There was a brief hiatus in September but regular tours should be back.

Had a great running experience today. I was the only one who showed up for a tour today and ended…read moreup getting an outstanding one-on-one tour of the city and its landmarks by Joe. I highly recommend this to any style runners. He makes lots of stops and runs at the slowest runner's pace.

You would think finding a decent ghost tour in STL with all its history would be easy...well, it's…read morenot. For a recent trip I settled on St. Louis Ghost (part of US Ghost Adventures). The website was easy to use and it was easy to fin da convenient time for our trip. The few reviews I was able to find seemed to be decent. I'm not a super experienced ghost tourer but we have been on others- a little spooky and eerie but very informative with great stories. I had hopes this would be similar...it wasn't. It was so terrible we left an hour into the tour which pains me because I even paid for the extended tour but we just couldn't take it anymore. We have literally never done this. We were bored, we were tired, and we both concluded that we weren't learning anything all that interesting to want to spend another hour with a guide that seemed to really not care and would keep complaining about the size of the group. First, the instructions for the meeting spot and how to spot the guide were terrible. We actually ran into others looking for the meeting spot and all managed to find it together. Frustrating start but not the end of the world. Second, the group was HUGE. Like, 30 people. The guide didn't use a mic or any way to amplify his voice but kept commenting how huge the group was like it was a surprise. Which is mind boggling to me because you sign up online so theoretically the size of the group is known. It was way too big. Check in was agonizingly long as well. I was really looking forward to hearing about the cool history and kept my expectations low on the scares. I don't spook easily but I was looking for something my hubby could enjoy as well. I was also trying to keep the cheesy factor to a minimum. The bottom line: the group was too big, the stories were boring and barely stories. There was no interesting build up. Several times the guide said, "Oh, I tried to see if there were any ghost stories on this building but couldn't find any" as we walked by. Like, really? At one point he yelled at a car or some passersby to look up US Ghost Adventures. I was also disappointed that the ending spot of the tour was way far from the starting point- not cool when parking is atrocious. It's not the safest area so I wasn't super keen on having to walk extremely out of our way. I can't recommend this company. Go grab dinner and/or some drinks somewhere fun for the cost of the tickets and I promise you'll enjoy it a lot more. I was so bummed because this was supposed to be a fun surprise activity but it turned out to be one of the biggest disappointments of the trip. Do not recommend at all.
