I'm not really sure what happens when you switch from the Bloor line to the RT, but there is a…read morediscernible change in atmosphere. I have taken classes on both campuses, and while St. George is a gathering for prepsters and nerds, Scarborough is home to tiny Asian hall dancers and the young. I mean really young. I'm certain I am pretty much a dinosaur in comparison to these kids. I say kids because they are so loud, and dressed in something I'm sure could be found on the closet floor of my 16 year old mother. I've realized two things about attending university at this campus in this city. One I highly enjoy the anonymity of the large on line classroom. Scarborough offers several of their highest grossing classes as on line available. Meaning that one can watch the lectures anytime, and that you need not be subjected to the aforementioned youth and all the irritants that surround them. It also means that the procrastinator inside can be fulfilled and I can still ace all my courses. Number two, I can try to fit in here, but I'm white, and old comparatively speaking. So I'm fashionable as an almost cougar and someone you think you can ask directions from. In fact I'm certain my prof yesterday was markedly younger than me. Oh well, thank goodness I'm mostly over trying to be cool:). As far as amenities go, the gym facilities are pretty shoddy though they will be redoing them shortly. Food options are few and have pretty poor hours, but there are two Timmy's, one open late. Highlight of my most recent trip to Scarberia, the ghetto Asian dance troupe practise taking place in the hallway near floor length windows. I say ghetto, because that is what they call themselves, because in all honesty they are sporting more brand names than a Macy's superstore. Bottom line...don't transfer here, this is a full fledged business and they deny deny deny all the credits they can. As business and psychology faculties go though they are top rated.

Harbord CI is one of the og high schools in Toronto, and you get that impression just by driving by…read morethat it has some history going on. Founded in 1892, it's got a long colourful history with plenty of wartime mementos on display in the lobby area so if you are a history buff check it out. I've heard there's even a tunnel from it to nearby Central Tech on Spadina for wartime production use. It's great how these old schools went all out for kids and had everything from an art-deco theatre for performances, as well as a full size gym (no need for double duty!) as well as a large pool in the basement where the Grade 9's go swimming. The alumni also read like a Toronto historical who's-who. David Cronenberg, Frank Gehry, Paul James, Max Kerman, Stephen Lewis, Howie Mandel, Joe Pantalone, Louis Rasminsky, Harry Rosen, Morley Safer, Sam Shopsowitz-Shopsy's, Sam the Record Man Sniderman, Kiefer Sutherland, Wayne and Shuster met there, and the list goes on! My daughter did very well, even though there aren't the perks she would like that are found in the mega-schools in the affluent burbs, it was perfect that she is able to walk to HCI in a very nice University Annex neighbourhood, no less. The music program here is impressive, as is the art program. She was able to organize an after school choir club of up to 20 kids who willingly go sing as a group every Wednesday after school when they could be on their phones, they choose not to. They also do extracurricular gigs at old age homes, etc. I look forward to the regular music concerts here and since she's in Grade 12, this year is sadly the last one. Highly recommended!

At the start, the instructor explained the process, but I noticed he mostly focused on a handful of people, so a few of us (including me) missed some details. We were given a clay like material to roll into a tube and a mold, which we did but then things got a little confusing. After shaping it, he took our rings, wrapped them around the mold, and handed them back. Apparently, we were supposed to carve and design them at that point, but this wasn't clearly communicated, so me and one other person just didn't do anything LOL Luckily, my ring still turned out nice (I wanted something simple anyway), so no complaints there! The place itself is great and worth checking out, but I'd suggest two small improvements: 1. Clearer instructions - Maybe double check that everyone's on the same page before moving forward. 2. Better supplies- They were running low on basics like tissues, cutlery, and plates, which would've made the experience smoother. Still a fun time -just needs a little fine tuning :)

This is one of the schools the TSSC rents out for Dodgeball…read more Of all the different schools I've played at this one is the best. There are change rooms available, an easily accessible water fountain, and the only basic rule is that you remove wet/muddy footwear before going into the gym. The gym is the perfect size to play dodgeball in. It's not too small so the games last a decent amount of time and don't turn into a firing squad and it's not so big that you throw your arm out every time to try to get the ball to the other side of the court.

Despite it's name Knox College is not regarded as one of the 7 UofT colleges, but it is the home…read morefor Christian ministry studies and theology studies and is a residence for students mainly studying that line of work although I have known a couple of students over the years to call Knox their home. To my knowledge, the rooms there are pretty typical of most single residence dorms but I've not heard any big negatives about it. While I have absolutely zero experience with them as an educational institution, what my review will be based on is their library (Caven Library) and the building in general. In my mind, University College, Hart House and Knox are the 3 most beautiful buildings on campus. And the numerous times I've seen Knox being transformed in to a movie set is a testimony to this (biggest movie set here as of 2011 is The Incredible Hulk). And due to it being a "Christian" place it is not a heavily trafficked building as students are probably intimidated by it's religious aura. They have one of the most beautiful spots in the entire campus in it's green and somewhat gothicy quad that so many students are unaware of. The library is also one of the prettiest and naturally quiet libraries around on campus. High ceilings and large windows makes you feel like you're studying in a church (well it might have been one back in the day) and the fact that most spots are individual tables with privacy screens is probably the main reason behind the natural unimposed silence you can enjoy here while studying. The last time I was there, power outlets were hard to come by, but that could have changed since UofT libraries have been undergoing renovations as of late. If you are sick and tired of studying at Robarts or Gerstein, Knox is a great alternative, if you are not in the mood to really check it out, use it as a scenic short cut to get between St George Street and King's College Circle.

This place sure has changed a lot over the last few years…read more I've visited UTM often over the last decade, not as a student, but as a writer covering various events. I've sat in lecture halls, toured the campus, gotten to know some of the professors - and I still haven't paid a dime for tuition. All the knowledge, none of the insane fees! For what it's worth, this campus is still as beautiful as it's always been, though I found myself getting lost when I visited (as of this writing) last week. I came here for a lecture event with Margaret Trudeau as part of the campus' 50th anniversary celebrations, and was very impressed with the event overall. I'm not sure if I've ever been to a lecture where the Vice-Chair of the school openly mused about whether one-fifth of the student body was at risk of mental illness, but that's what I got and more, as Margaret spent an hour-and-a-half talking about her life and struggles to combat bipolarity at a time when there wasn't much known about the disorder. I'm not sure if the student body appreciates this place as much as I do. I watched kids in greasy sweatpants, low-cut tops and ugly-looking clothes file out of lecture halls like a swarm of ants, mindlessly flowing to their next class without any thought or care of what's going on around them. They really should - when you actually look at this place, it's genuinely impressive. The building I visited (the Innovation Centre) had a very nice open-concept restaurant, where you can buy food and sit on padded leather couches by the massive windows that overlook the sprawling campus. The main building offers a ton of choice (though they haven't really upgraded that or changed the vendors in a long time), while the library has a great selection of books and ephemera. I give special shoutout to the staff members who attended the lecture, especially Ulrich Krull, who seemed to remember me from the last time I visited the campus (when Calgary Mayor Naheed Nenshi visited for a talk). There are so many events, gatherings and free lectures that take place here that you'd be a fool not to visit the campus at least once. Barring the sprawling campus that might leave you a bit dizzy, there's plenty to see and do here. Well worth a look. (Also, shoutout to the Medium student newspaper. You do great work, though I'm not sorry for taking one of your "preferred" media spots five feet away from where Ms. Trudeau sat. First come, first serve, baby.)
