If you're on a budget, definitely come here to get a taste of traditional Milan staples. We got two dishes (Milanese veal cutlet and tripe), a dessert (sbrisolona), and lunch for the next day (Osso Bucco), all for under 50 euros. The Milanese veal cutlet tastes like your typical fried meat cutlets but man is it a long piece of meat. The tripe was good and mixed in a tomato-like soup base. I would be cautious with that one if you don't like organ meats although my wife enjoyed it and she isn't a big fan of organ meats. Sbrisolona reminds me of a flaky almond cookie. Our waiter was very pleasant, fast, and accommodating towards us. Inside looks like a small diner. Would love to come here again just because they made me feel at home as I was eating.

Started off with a mixed salad that featured several…read morekinds of greens tossed together w/ tomatoes, which proved surprisingly bland, much like the "cardboard" kind sold in supermarkets in the US. But, that was fixed by the excellent tomato-ground beef sauce atop the tagliatelle, which was perfectly cooked al dente and came in a decent-sized portion. That, bread, and a bottle of mineral water came to E14, which was money well spent in the company of a fine staff who were friendly and talkative w/o being intrusive.

On a mission to find the perfect traditional Milanese trattoria, we decided to try La Pesa, one of…read morethe most sought after places for risotto con ossobuco and cotoletta. The menu is actually not strictly Milanese, they have items that belong to other regional traditions like sciatt or polenta taragna, fried cheese balls and cheese polenta from Valtellina. We didn't complain about this discrepancy, we actually enjoyed both dishes even if not traditional from Milan. Then we got risotto alla milanese con ossobuco, the symbol of Milanese cuisine, and it was really really good. The risotto was creamy, buttery and delicious, the ossobuco "melt in your mouth" tender and with a lot of delicious bone marrow in the bone. Fantastic. Risotto ai funghi porcini freschi was very good too. The tagliatelle al ragù di cinghiale (boar) were very good, but the tagliatelle were a bit too tough, which is very strange for fresh pasta. It felt like the fresh pasta was left to dry out and then it was not cooked enough to rehydrate it. Whatever, the ragù was delicious. Finally the mondeghili, typical Milanese fried meat balls, although delicious, were not authentic, at least according to the expert in the group. Anyway, we enjoyed the food, the cute ambiance and the service. Recommended.

Beautifully advertised. Deeply disappointing in reality…read more Our experience at Trattoria La Pesa was one of the most disappointing meals we had in Milan--not simply because of the food, but because of the entire attitude toward the customer. From the moment we sat down, our waiter seemed less interested in taking our order than in telling us what we were going to eat and drink. His manner was remarkably reminiscent of the infamous "Soup Nazi"--authoritative, dismissive, and completely lacking in the hospitality one expects from a restaurant of this stature. He insisted on a particular wine, despite our preferences, and pressured us into ordering considerably more food than we wanted. The bar service was equally astonishing. When I asked for a martini, they genuinely seemed unfamiliar with the drink. I had to ask three different people before someone finally understood what I was asking for. They had only one no-name vodka available, which was surprisingly limited for a restaurant of this type, and even then, I had to order it on the rocks because a proper martini apparently wasn't something they were prepared to make. Then came the announcement that we had only one hour at the table. Being rushed through a meal is hardly the experience one anticipates when choosing a restaurant in Milan, particularly one that presents itself as a destination. Unfortunately, the food did nothing to redeem the experience. The veal Milanese was essentially inedible--a dish that should be one of the highlights of dining in Milan. The meatballs were equally disappointing, bearing an uncanny resemblance to the kind of sausages one might expect to find at a football stadium, rather than on the table of a serious Milanese restaurant. What bothered us most was the enormous disconnect between the restaurant's polished image and what was actually delivered. The advertising creates expectations that the experience simply does not justify. A restaurant can have an attractive setting, a strong reputation, and excellent marketing, but none of that substitutes for good hospitality, quality food, and respect for the customer. We came expecting a memorable Milanese meal. We left feeling rushed, pressured into ordering food we didn't want, and thoroughly disappointed. If you're considering this restaurant because of the advertising and hype, look beyond the marketing and read the less flattering reviews before making your decision. For us, this was a one-star experience--and only because one star is the lowest rating available - even the one star seemed too generous Diner beware !

The staff was very friendly and glad we booked an early table for 7:30p as the restaurant filled up fast. One of our party had nut allergies and the staff helped her to select items that she could eat. This is a family restaurant in a local neighborhood. The guests and the staff were all gracious and made us feel like family. Definitely worth a visit if you are near Linate airport in Milan.

HOWEVER, one item really left an impression: the beef tongue salad! We ordered a second round of that. I remember the chicken dish was also tasty. The service was great. I think they're not used to the sight of seeing 9 asian tourists visiting so they were a little taken aback, alas, they tried their best to communicate with us and made sure we had everything we needed.
