That was my takeaway after eating the most delicious pizza I've ever had in my life at Pizza Pinnochio. Tucked away in an ally in Sanremo, this place is serving up some pizza that can only make you shake your head is disbelief. It's a small mom and pop type of place and they are as a friendly as they come. Even though they didn't speak a lick of English and we didn't speak a lick of Italian, the waitress guided us as best she could through the menu and I ordered a two personal pizzas: one with peppers and one with prosciutto. The pizzas were prepared from start to finish in less than 10 minutes and were very thin crust. The cheese was bubbling and the taste was unreal. It's was the most delicious piece of pizza id ever had. Not to sound cliche, but it was literally melting in my mouth. I enjoyed it so much so that i ordered another pie. If you ever find yourself in Sanremo, this is a hands down must visit restaurant. I promise this will be the best pizza you've ever tasted in your life... Well at least if you're from the US.

We were not disappointed; the pizza was indeed amazing. I ordered the artichoke and grana pizza and was blown away. The wife had the Diavolo and enjoyed it immensely as well. The crust was thin, perfectly cooked, and delicious, with that smoky flavor you only get from a wood-fired oven. The surroundings were standard neighborhood eatery: low-brow and relaxed. No danger of a Michelin star appearing anytime soon. The waitress was quite friendly and the staff seemed capable of conversing in several languages (I heard pretty good English, German, French, and of course, Italian). As a bonus, the restroom, though basic, was clean, fully functional, and well stocked with soap and paper towels. Having eaten in many similar Italian eateries, this was quite a rarity. Check your bill carefully. Whether by accident or design, they charged me for an extra drink that we hadn't ordered. No biggie, but the only blemish on an otherwise pleasant and tasty evening.

The thing with alfresco dining in Europe, is that 99% of the time you will be among smokers. When you are a non-smoker and are trying to enjoy your meal, this can be really annoying. We arrived around 15:00 and the place was empty, so we had the outside area all to ourselves. For about 15 minutes. We, of course, were blessed by a chain smoker. No lie, she had a cigarette in her left hand and her fork in her right. And she would kindly turn her head and blow her smoke in our direction. I digress. Our server was super friendly and patient with my so-so Italian. They bring out a huge bread basket & olives to start. We each ordered the 20€ lunch menu. Pasta, dessert & wine. I had the Lasagna & my husband had the Trofie with pesto. The lasagna was delicious. It was served different than what we are used to, sort of cut up, but it was easier to eat this way. My husband's pasta was very good as well. For dessert we both ordered the house made Tiramisu which was absolutely delish as well. Then after we had inhaled our desserts, the came out with a plate of candies, truffles and yummy dark chocolate drops. We pretty much rolled ourselves out of there. An all around excellent meal with great service. We look forward to visiting Sanremo again and will definitely return to Vela d'Oro.

We sat outside and we're helped right away. We started with a salad and delicious baked bread with olive oil and balsamic my favorite! I ordered the lasagna and my hubby ordered the pasta with garlic and oil. Both were incredible. Like absolutely outstanding. Best lasagna I have EVER had I almost ate the entire thing. I had to stop myself. It was incredible I'm still dreaming of it. After our meal they gave us a complementary little desert bite which too was out of this world. 5 stars and not to mention so reasonable. We might even stop here again! If your in Sanremo you have to go here!!

Once we got off the train, we realized it was quite a long walk to the restaurant, but the journey was completely worth it. The stroll through the scenic streets only built up our anticipation. As a true pasta enthusiast, I've tried my fair share of dishes, but this one easily tops the list--it was hands down the best pasta I've ever had. The noodles were incredibly fresh, the flavors rich and balanced, and every bite felt like pure comfort. What made the experience even more memorable was our waitress. She was the kindest woman--warm, welcoming, and genuinely attentive. Her sweetness and thoughtful service turned an already amazing meal into something unforgettable. The drinks were perfectly refreshing, the ambiance was cozy yet vibrant, and the food... truly to die for. If I lived in Italy I would be here every single week no question!

We opted to sit inside but the outside patio is perfect for a meal. We started with the shrimp with mushrooms and corgette. The shrimp were tasty with a natural sweetness to them. A great start to the meal. Plus the drinks... super tasty and refreshing. Our waitress was more than amazing! She made suggestions that were spot on and explained everything so well. You get to choose your pasta and the sauce. With her recommendation, I got the ravioli with truffle cream. The ravioli was perfectly al dente and the truffle sauce was a great addition. No regrets! My sisters meal was delicious as well. So simple but so good! We were truly stuffed but had to get dessert. This was the best tiramisu I have ever had. Super light and fluffy, you felt like you were eating air. We also got the poached pear. I literally wanted to drink the juice from the melted ice cream and sauce form the pear. We also had an amazing local-ish wine. What a great experience! I can't recommend this place enough.

Our French is limited and we wandered into the patio towards a table as we tried to get the Server's attention. Just as we sat down, the extremely rude and nasty Server berated us. As we quickly attempted to apologize for our mistake he continued to mistreat us and speak with such hostility that we insisted we would leave because how dare he speak to us like that! It was an honest mistake on our part which we tried to apologize for but he insisted 'how dare we seat ourselves'. Our son-in-law is a Chef, one town over and he was appalled at how we were treated. We understood immediately we had made a mistake but to be spoken to with such ignorance and malice was uncalled for. He was just rude so we happily left and took our patronage over to Eze. This Person/Maitre di was Ignorant, Arrogant and had no class at all. We will be sure to tell anyone and everyone else we know not to go here, including those our son-in-law and daughter know as well since they are locals!!

Naturally, they have a very nice outdoor seating set up, but we dined inside to give ourselves a much needed break from second hand smoke. My mother and I split a fresh and in every way delightful salad niçoise and my dad had the steak tartar. It was a steak tartar which he referred back to for the entire trip, the one that every following tartar was held up against and failed to compare to. The baguette basket they brought with the food was very precious. Springy, soft and crusty pieces of freshly baked baguette. Probably from the amazing boulangerie across the street. We grew quite fond of our waiter through the course of the meal. A jovial and friendly redhead. At the end of the meal, he helped us understand how to tip in Europe, and explained it in a completely unbiased manner.
