As a family of five, we were looking for a place in the Latin Quarter that didn't break the bank. After checking around ten different places we settle for Magnetti's. We figured two pizzas would be a good option. We ended up ordering more stuff as the food was great, and still breaking the bank. The "Cozze alla Romana" (Galway mussels) were delicious and a big enough portion to share. The pizzas were very good, and the fish of the day (locally sourced monk fish) was delicious, and for a change, it was not battered and fried. It came with a side of steamed broccoli, cauliflower and baked potatoes. Both meals were absolutely delicious, showcasing the care and expertise in the kitchen. We were enjoying ourselves so much that we decided to do something we rarely do--order dessert! We shared the Affogato and ordered an additional carafe of wine to keep the evening going. Having traveled for nearly two weeks, we can confidently say this was our favorite meal and evening of the trip. Trattoria Magnetti was a gem we decided to try in Galway. We've noticed a high percentage of Italian restaurants on the Island and this is the 2nd we tried. I had gluten-free penne puttanesca. It was wonderful. My wife had a small cheese pizza and also said good thinks about it. The dining area is nice. The tables are close together and everyone talks to everyone. The service was abysmal. It took over 30 mins after we sat down just to receive the wine we ordered. They weren't even busy, so the level of service should not have been that bad. It was the only restaurant in the vicinity that had available seating, which is what led us to eat at this restaurant in the first place. It now seems like the locals knew better than to dine here. We ordered the bruschetta, which wasn't great. I ordered the mushroom risotto which was also not the best. My boyfriend, however, ordered the steak and it came out completely raw. We aren't the type to send items back to a kitchen, but it was unbelievable how raw it was. It also took forever for a server to come back and check on us, and when we finally waived someone down to send the meal back, they apologized and rightfully took it off the bill and offered us a free dessert on the house. We would have taken them up on that, but nobody came back to take our dessert order so we just told them to forget it & left after paying the bill. Ordered med rare Carre d'Agnello, def got very rare, dining party commented that they thought the lamb was still breathing. They are sourcing quality lamb either way! This was such a delicious hidden gem in Galway. We were originally on the hunt for Mexican but walked by this place, took a quick look at the menu and decided it was exactly what we needed after wandering in the cold rain. The servers we encountered were so delightful and attentive. We started with the bruschetta appetizer, which was 10/10. I really liked that we were given the bruschetta without any oil or balsamic vinegar and were instead given the bottles to add to our preference. The mushroom & tomato was my absolute favorite of the three, with the original second and third, the olive (not an olive fan but was willing to try). For lunch I had the caprese starter. The mozzarella was absolute perfection, as were the tomatoes. I'm getting a little hungry just thinking about it. My friend ordered the ravioli with spinach (I forgot the proper name) and it was delicious. A generous portion and it tasted so fresh, sauce and all. We also splurged and for dessert & coffee knowing we'd be back out in the cold rain. Best decision. They do offer milk alternatives, as my friend got a soy latte. No idea what she got but I do know it was chocolatey and delicious. I had a cannoli & an americano & it was the perfect ending to an absolutely delicious lunch. I ordered the pumpkin ravioli and my husband had a calzone that was bigger than his head. Everything was great. The only thing was the calzone was a bit drier than we're used to back home (I guess Americans like extra sauce for everything?) so he asked for a side of sauce. The server went back and the chef said "they don't do sauce on the side" which we found very strange. We spent a lot of money and it seemed like such a small request. My girlfriend and I were disappointed with an over hard egg on our carbonara pizza and the rocket salad had no rocket or dressing. This is unfortunately a 2 for us. I say unfortunately because the food could have actually been good, but the service ruined the experience. The only reason it's not getting a 1 is because of the taste. From the minute we walked in, the manager must have been stressed because she was not very welcoming. It also appeared as though they were understaffed as we only interacted with a waitress (we did not have the same one throughout the meal) when we put in our order, when our appetizer was brought out twenty minutes later, and one hour after that when I went to the counter to ask if our pizza was on the way. When the pizza did arrive, the egg we had on top was hard and the pizza itself was cold. When we did inform the manager, she was dismissive and blamed the chef for the pizza rather than acknowledging we just had been forgotten. read more

The menu presents a great array of Italian cuisines, ranging from a classic margarita pizza to a profound lamb rigatoni. I personally chose the margarita. It was excellent. Very thin crust. No complaints. Finally, the climax of the meal was dessert. I had the special "Bailey's Cheesecake" based on the famous Irish drink. This was probably the best dessert food I have tasted in my entire life....and I'm no sweet tooth. 11/10. If it is available, you have to get it. FAB GLUTEN FREE OPTIONS. had a most wonderful dinner here recently. the menu does not mention too many gluten free items, but the staff is knowledgeable and happy to help. they have gluten free pasta and many main entrees were naturally gluten free. i had the filet, and though the meat was a little overlooked it was still juicy and flavorful. other celiac diners i was with had a chicken dish, which i sampled and it was also great. and my boyfriend was kind enough to also order a GF pasta dish so we could share. it was a spicy creamy tomato sauce with italian sausage -- YUM! gluten free penne pasta, fyi. would definitely eat here again and recommend to any gluten free travelers in galway. read more

Good Italian food on one of the most touristy streets in Galway. Slightly over priced for what you get. Also, we were told that without a reservation we were to sit outside (in the rain and right in the middle of the smoking sections of all the nearby bars). The bites of food I got that weren't soggy from the rain or coated in cigarette ash were good though! If you're looking for decent Italian in Galway this will do.
