In the past, the meal started with a nice variety of breads and chips at the table, so I was a little disappointed to see that replaced with a small bag of bread pieces.
For my starter, I ordered the mixed fried fish. It was excellent--fresh, crispy, and delicious. My only disappointment was the lack of a good dipping sauce. Something like marinara, aioli, or another house-made sauce would have been perfect. The only options available were ketchup and mayonnaise, which seemed a little underwhelming for such a wonderful dish.
For my entrée, I ordered the spaghetti with anchovies. Unfortunately, this course was a big disappointment. It looked wonderful when it arrived, but it just didn't live up to the expectations set by the many excellent meals I've had here over the years. The pasta was a bit too al dente for my taste, and overall, the dish simply didn't deliver the flavor or enjoyment I was expecting.
I still have very fond feelings about this restaurant and hope tonight was simply an off night.
