Dating back to 1910, calling this place an icon is truly an understatement. I've been coming here for years, although I have to admit it had been a couple of years since my last visit. With my upcoming move out west, this was at the very top of my Utica bucket list. There are just some places that hold too much history and too many memories to leave town without visiting one more time. A little heads-up: While the bar is now open multiple days a week, the kitchen is currently open only on Tuesdays and Saturdays. Nothing fancy here, but you'll find good Italian food steeped in history, tradition, and a genuine love of food. I do have to admit, though, that I miss the family who used to run this restaurant. The granddaughter was the server, another family member ran the bar, and two elderly gentlemen handled all of the cooking. It was truly a family affair. Back in the day, they even sold meats by the pound from the basement. Those days are sadly bygone, and unfortunately, the restaurant has changed hands several times over the years. While they have kept many of the traditions and familiar touches intact, I do feel the Italian gravy/sauce has changed. Personally, I'm not a fan of the new sauce and definitely miss the old recipe. They still bring a partial bag of fresh-baked Italian bread to the table ... no butter, and don't bother asking for it! Cash is still king here, so come prepared. It may have changed over the years, but if you want to experience a little piece of Utica and enjoy a meal steeped in Italian history and tradition, this is still a place worth visiting. Some restaurants are more than just a meal, they're a piece of the community's story.

Back in the day, Delmonico's was the place to go when you wanted to dress up, celebrate something special, and enjoy a higher-end meal without having to travel far. At a time when there weren't nearly as many upscale dining options around, this definitely felt like an occasion. And let's talk about the atmosphere because there is absolutely no mistaking the theme here. Think Italian mobster meets supper club. Mob-related actors and photographs adorn the walls, Frank Sinatra is playing, and the dining tables are tucked into little private nooks. They really lean into the whole experience -- and honestly, you either love the theme or you're going to find it a little... cheesy. Coming back with fresh eyes, I found myself realizing that what I once considered an upscale dining experience now feels more like an expensive, heavily themed steakhouse chain. This particular location was once an Applebee's, and while they have certainly given the place a complete makeover, I couldn't help but feel that a tiny bit of the Applebee's DNA was still hanging around. The restaurant has also had its share of challenges and negative publicity over the years, particularly surrounding staffing and cleanliness. That said, our experience was actually very good. Our server and the staff were terrific, the food came out exactly as ordered, and everyone was attentive to our needs. I ordered the Classic Delmonico, their signature steak, and it was cooked perfectly. I requested no pepper seasoning and they got that right ...always a win when a simple request actually makes it to the kitchen! The steak was enormous, and I had enough left over to make another meal out of it. Meals come with pasta as a side, but I opted to upgrade to a vegetable. Enter the asparagus... which apparently had gotten into a serious relationship with the pepper shaker. It was covered in pepper. Luckily, nothing a little napkin intervention couldn't fix! So after all these years, where does that leave me? The service was excellent, the steak was good, the portions were generous, and the atmosphere is certainly memorable. But when I look at the overall experience versus the price, I think my dining dollars would go elsewhere. For a special occasion, I would personally choose a smaller, more intimate steakhouse or upscale restaurant where the food and atmosphere feel a little more elevated and less like a chain experience. But I'm still glad I went. Sometimes you revisit an old favorite and discover it isn't quite what you remembered. And sometimes that's okay. The restaurant may have changed or maybe my definition of a special dining experience has simply evolved. Either way, it was worth the trip down memory lane. Would I go back? Probably not for a special occasion. But I'm glad I finally went back after all these years, if only to see whether Delmonico's could still live up to the version I remembered.

A group of my high school friends and I decided to have lunch at this wonderful place today. We have been out of high school for many years, but try to get together as often as we can. The owner who immediately greeted us , welcomed us , like we were his family. He was very kind and went out of his way for anything we asked for. Told us all about the history of this wonderful place. All of us being of Italian decent enjoyed all the wonderful stories, family dinners , Grandparents, and family pictures on the wall, gave it such a homey feel. Now the food came . It was by far as if we were sitting in our Aunt or Grandma's home, sharing wonderful conversations, and Delicious food. The portions were bountiful ....from antipasto, to soup , to eggplant, to pasta, and a dish made from saute'd cabbage in red wine.... WOW!!! Anyone and everyone who enjoys home cooked Italian food needs to go and have lunch or dinner there. You can bet we will be back..... Dan is such a wonderful host, and told us we were welcome to return anytime... And you can bet we will. In case you don't know , no menu's , he just brings out the food he has prepared for that day .... and nothing dis-appointed us in any way... The portions were huge, we even took leftovers home... We have had the privilege of eating Danny's cooking long before he started the trattoria and we can tell you that the restaurant dinners are just as good as his home cooking. He's very talented in the kitchen and truly loves what he does and the friends that come to Calabria. I have never had something I didn't like. Even though there is no menu and you never know what the next course will be it's not deterring; it's exciting! No matter what Danny brings to your table I guarantee it will satisfy your taste buds and you will never leave hungry. We had dinner there last night; and let me tell you--it was AMAZING AND EXCELLENT!! Danny, the gregarious chef and host, is a great guy with a marvelous personality and such a well-seasoned chef!! Food is quite good, but I think they are still working out a lot of kinks in managing the dining room. We arrived early but waited to go in until reservation time. Parking was not available so another patron had parked on the grass and we parked next to them. Once winter arrives, I think ppl will end up have to park down Seneca Turnpike and walk back. The paved area isn't sufficient for a full dining room. It is a very modest bar, and a small dining room. There were ppl in front of us who were walk-ins. They mentioned one staff member told them it would be 20 minutes and another said two hours for walk-in. We figured it wouldn't be long for our 2 person reservation. Hmmm. I don't think anyone in particular is greeting patrons or managing reservations. The wait staff seemed to be pitching in as they could. The walk-ins (in front of us in line) were seated at a 2 person booth 20 minutes after our reservation. We objected as the other part of my party had been seated on a Saturday evening, very close to reservation time. The staff member said the walk-ins were waiting longer than those with reservations. As they should. We were seated after an hour past reservation time. Larger parties were seated on time after us, they had reservations 30 min after ours. Those tables had previously been pushed together for a party earlier, and staff didn't separate them for smaller parties that had earlier reservations. We were seated at a small table in front of the kitchen door. Food was quite good. We ordered wine as we arrived to the table as well as the meatball appetizer. Eventually someone stopped with menus. We ordered when someone else stopped at the table. About 50 min later, the entrees arrived. We did get our water glasses refilled. I had ordered haddock and it was fresh and very good. My friend ordered a fresh pasta dish, which was good, although not exactly as they ordered it. During our last hour there, (the owner) Christian Maya's father stopped to speak to us and he had checked in with us a couple times after the entrees were delivered. We really appreciated that attentiveness. So I took a star off for the reservation issues. I took a star off for gaps in service. I'm sure they will be able to improve on these things. For now, I recommend that you wait to go there unless you don't mind a considerable wait for a reservation.

I had the Seafood Linguine, and that was pretty good, but I've had better. I would order something else on the menu next time. My coworker ordered a Delmonico steak, and it came with a baked potato. She said the steak was cooked right and very tender. All dinners came with roasted peppers, bread, and salad. The salad was mediocre (Iceberg lettuce, black olives, onions, tomatoes). In my opinion, I do think their dishes are overpriced compared to other good Italian restaurants in the area. The service was good. If you're in a hurry, it is not the place for you because our food took an hour or longer to come out. They have a big dining area and a tiny bar area. It is cute with the Xmas decorations, but overall, I think they should update their dining areas. They also should have a well-lit parking lot for safety reasons.

Great flavor, crispiness, and very meaty! We also ordered a garlic pizza. The crust was to die for and had just the right amount of cheese, to garlic to white sauce. They have a fairly extensive menu with lots of other great looking items. On that their daily specials are listed, which are a great deal! They also offer pizza by the slice for walk ins. Parking is to the left of the entrance, or in the downtown Clinton lot across the street.
