There are so, so many restaurants in Bay St. Louis, MS, and it is a lot of fun to eat your way through this beachside town. We were craving poor boys and Mississippi brews, so Trapani's was the place. The interior is whimsical, painted all colors and with maritime antiques and local art. Pirates welcome. Happy servers cruise the restaurant, explaining dishes, refilling your drinks, and describing the qualities of the craft beers, which they probably do all day long. The menu was extensive--fish, shellfish prepared various ways (salads, pasta, sandwiches; plus many choices for landlubbers. No one goes away hungry. Came in for lunch. We had Asian tacos, blackened tacos, gumbo, debris po-boy & Caesar salad. Ellison waited on us & was TERRIFIC... very friendly/knowledgable/efficient. A very cute restaurant with several small dining areas and a small bar with seating on the main level. Upstairs is another bar and some dining tables. The effect gives a cozy, intimate feel to Trapani's. The staff was friendly and efficient. I was craving veggies so i ordered a Caesar salad, which came overdressed and with way too much garlic (and this comes from someone who loves garlic). I wish I could comment on a more substantial menu item, but I guess that will have to wait till my next visit. read more

Trapani's was recommended to us to try during our girls' trip. Maybe it was a rough night for the kitchen but it's a no for us. We were seated immediately. But the rest of the service was slow. For reference, I truly enjoy leisurely meals but this was not it. We ordered Spinach & Artichoke dip and onion rings for appetizers. The dip arrived 40 minutes later. It was delish! About 30 minutes after the dip, the onion rings and entrees arrived. The shrimp tacos were generous with shrimp. The chicken parm was okay. The fish tacos were incredibly overcooked and had to be sent back; it was like chewing on rubber. The onion rings were incredibly too salty and fried in cornmeal. We ordered a lemon drop martini and key lime pie martini. Both were not good and at $14 each, we expected more. The key lime pie martini tasted like pineapple juice. Before tip, the meal was almost $150. On a positive note, the server and manager were very helpful and kind. Unfortunately, the food just wasn't good. WHAT A COMPLETE WASTE OF TIME. I took my wife here expecting a nice night out, and instead it turned into one of the worst dining experiences of my life. We spent over 250 on what was supposed to be a fine meal, and every single dish was a complete disappointment. The food looked questionable when it arrived, tasted off, and within hours both of us were horribly sick. For the price they charge, you'd expect at least basic quality and safety, but clearly they don't care about either. The staff seemed uninterested and rushed, and when I mentioned that the food didn't taste fresh, I was brushed off. Honestly, I wouldn't feed what we were served to my worst enemy. Service was verry good and the staff is extremely friendly walking past staff they always greeted people coming through. Fried raviolis were good but the spinach dip was flat and missing a kick like garlic and other flavors. Great size raw oyster and crispy fried green tomatoes. Way too expensive for what you get. 10 shrimp in weird bbq sauce for $20...fried shrimp and bland non-seasoned pasta with no sauce for $29. They would add some Alfredo for $7. Food was mediocre at best. It's tough to live in a coastal town where the food should meet an expectation of a tourist level but that's just not the case. Had spinach and artichoke dip that was decent and a club sandwich that was very sad , bread was cold and untoasted and overall a very blah meal I could have done better at home. Drinks are very overpriced, my friend got a root beer to the tune of $5 and I got a sweet tea that cost $4 . This was a challenging experience. When we entered the restaurant, they said they could accommodate our party of 10 and directed us to the private room. None of us had been there before, so we were left to find the private room on our own. Upon arriving in the private room, we had to push together the tables and chairs. We were excited about getting fresh seafood. Out of the 10 of us, only the two who got the Asian tacos enjoyed their meal. Went over to my favorite spot in the the Bay to do some writing and for my first stop I slid into Trapani's for a little breakfast and - omg - am I glad I did! The main thing being offered that morning was a variety of "Eggs Benedict" dishes. I chose the Fried Chicken Eggs Benedict with Gouda Grits and a side of Bacon because.... well....it's BACON - which needs no justification. Now I almost didn't order this item because I'm a Southerner and therefore have had fried chicken in various forms no less than 14 billion times over the years. Is there really anything more to experience with fried chicken? Yes. There is. When I say this chicken was perfect I mean it was PERFECT. As every Fried Chicken Aficionado knows - it's about the crust, first and foremost. And the crust was DIVINE. Not overdone, not underdone, crisp, light, not greasy - this was amazing. I found myself making weird food-eating noises. I may have started singing, or it could have been the angels. Whatever. That gem of culinary art, on top of fluffy biscuit, crowned with a beautifully poached egg - wow. Just wow. And then there were the Gouda grits, creamy and delicious in their own right which - but the chicken had already stolen my heart. You gotta get you-self over to this place and check it out. It's unfortunate that with such a great location, the food is subpar and EXPENSIVE. The crab cakes were soggy on the inside and sat in a bed of oil as did the sautéed crab claws I ordered as an appetizer- they too sat on a soggy bed of lettuce, covered in oil and were absolutely flavorless. The cocktail sauce I dipped them in was good. Must have been from a jar. Hubby ordered the veal which was also over cooked, under seasoned & rubbery and the pasta was unseasoned and there's a cheese or something mixed into the pasta that gave it a weird texture. My fried oyster Caesar salad was ok. I was struggling to find the seasoning. The dressing was bland, lettuce soggy and warm. My oysters were cooked beautifully, but again, where's the flavor? On the bright side, our waitress was great and the chicken Po-Boy was excellent! Come here for that and a drink (Sunset on the Bay - yum), but nothing else.
