Train service is good.
Bus service is terrible. They cancel entire routes on a whim, forcing people to get other means of transport even if their transport with translink (in the form of a day pass) was already purchased, they do this without warning. This one time I use as an example involved a parade, they could have diverted but instead they sent out a five seater car, containing five translink workers (meaning no elderly or disabled people waiting could be transported in it in leiu of a bus to their destination), when told that I had paid for a day pass, along with a friend who also had one (totalling nearly £10) we weren't offered a refund in exchange for the tickets, we were told to take it up with the orange order or PSNI parked up the road, as it was "their fault", which simply shifted the blame.
I took this to head office along with my ticket and even though I had written down the number plate of the car the five workers were in I was refused a refund or written apology as I didn't have enough "evidence".
Two drivers, when informed that they were extremely late and I wanted my money back (in more colourful language than that) attempted to hit me through the booth. This may have been "deserved" due to comments I made about their wives, but it is HIGHLY unprofessional. Again a complaint was made to translink as I had jotted down the bus number, route, time and date after and I was told that they didn't have the CCTV footage to back up any claims.
They refuse to stop on plenty of occasions and their drivers are often rude to the point where the "wow that was a really nice driver" comes up in conversation when we board a bus that doesn't have a rude or aggressive driver.
Not to mention they take off as fast as possible or slam on brakes when it's not needed so they can play a game of what I've come to call "human skittles", twice I have seen elderly passengers trying to find a seat end up head first once into a metal bar and the other time into the stairs, one was so shaken she had to be helped into her seat by another passenger who then confronted the driver only to have the brakes slammed on once again and be forced off the bus by the driver, who used all sorts of wonderful language when referring to how he will and can do what he wants on "his bus". I have heard a tale of another elderly lady having to be taken off the bus by paramedics due to the driver slamming the brakes at a stop causing her to fly backwards and hit her head. read more
