Tourists beware of using Fonacab
Reading Fonacab's website makes me want to vomit.
Here is why tourists, in particular, shouldn't use Fonacab: you can't rely on them to get you to the airport. There are a number of reasons (and much evidence) for this - read on...
Firstly, I booked a taxi to go to the airport the following day. Now, you don't really need to be that clever to appreciate that when someone is going to an airport, they are going to get a flight. For those who are unaware (i.e. those who manage Foney Cab, as it's sometimes pronounced), flights don't tend to wait until passengers decide to turn up before departing.
So I had my taxi booked and it didn't arrive. I phoned up (they answered on this occasion, but they don't always). The person who answered (hereinafter referred to as 'desk staff') explained that they were very busy. Yes, I anticipated the possibility of them being busy, which is why I PRE-BOOKED A TAXI. Muppets. I asked how long it would be and I was told 10 minutes. Just as I was about to ring back again, I get a notification telling me that my taxi had arrived. It hadn't. It did a few minutes later.
You see, drivers, when under pressure from desk staff who aren't very good at their jobs, tend to key the code into their system to indicate that they have arrived so that it shows on the system that they have arrived, even when they have not. This is the type of thing that I've discovered drivers have to do to appease inept desk staff who can't handle the simple task of managing bookings.
But it doesn't end there. That's just one experience. Here's evidence that this isn't just down to inept desk staff, but that it is, in fact, the inevitable result of an idiotic Fonacab policy which emanates from their complete disdain for customers (which is why their disingenuous website makes me want to vomit).
On Fonacab's current radio advertisement (October 2018) for recruiting drivers, the advert states that, "there's no sin bin penalty for rejecting a job". To those of you unfamiliar with taxi parlance, let me explain. In some taxi depots, if a driver rejects a job (e.g. a message is sent to a driver's system to pick up at 1 Smith Street and the driver rejects it on their system), then there will be a consequence for this. This makes sense.
Fonacab, however, are gloating about the fact that there is no consequence to drivers availing of the systematic policy of ignoring customers. So if, for example, a driver doesn't want to do a job because he/she can't be bothered with traffic; or would rather do convenient short jobs; or doesn't like someone's surname; or doesn't want to bring someone to Bangor because they are unlikely to get a job on the way back...then driver after driver can refuse job after job, and customers can just wait until they are collected at the convenience of Fonacab. It's as disgraceful as it is idiotic.
Don't take a chance. Uber it. (Hey, Uber, if you would like to purchase this nifty strapline of mine which I'm declaring copyright of, feel free to get in touch...) read more
