I had a 10 year term life insurance policy with Transamerica. For 9 years I paid an annual premium prior to the due date. I submitted my final payment by check on April 14, 2026 using Transamerica payment forms. The actual premium due was May 12, 2026. Upon returning from a trip in mid-June 2026, I reviewed my bank statement and discovered my April 14, 2026 check had not been cashed. I immediately contacted Transamerica Corporate in Iowa. I was informed the check had not been processed. Four days earlier to my trip return in June, 2026 I was informed my policy had been terminated. I was instructed to reapply by the Transamerica help desk. I never received any notice by Transamerica that my check was not received (no email, text, nor written statement) until early in July. It is my suspicion that Transamerica purposefully did not acknowledge or cash my final payment to avoid paying out the term policy if I died before May 2027. I want reinstatement ASAP. read more

Buyer beware! 15 years ago we signed up with Transamerica life Insurance Company for a 15 year policy. Everything went smoothly and the policy was pretty inexpensive per month. Two months ago, in April, the Company sent a policy increase letter to my old address, Thankfully on May 12 I received it at my current address. I called immediately because the new policy was jumping up from $60-$422. We weren't going to pay that much a month as the economy is so poor and my husband and myself are preparing for retirement. I spoke with the associate and he explained that the policy was up and it was about to increase. I told him to please cancel the policy. He ,then, provided me with an email where I could send the surrender letter. I sent all the surrender pages signed back to that specific email within an hour from the time we spoke. About three weeks later, I receive a letter requesting for me to please pay $1256.46. I called again and to find out why the payments were not stopped and the cancellation did not go through? The associate then told me that they did not receive my surrender page that I had emailed to them. Thankfully, I had received an automatic response saying that they had received the information. She, then, proceeded to give me a completely different email address to send the surrender page to them. Go figure! Thank God I had those payments stopped with my bank or right now I would potentially be out of $500 or more. This is bad business! read more

This is the worst company I've had any dealings with in my 62 years. Just try to receive a death claim without weeks of delays, inconsistent stories, and apparent untruths. That is, if you receive it at all. I've filed a complaint with the state attorney generals office where the policy was sold to my now deceased mother. We'll see what happens. I am leaving one star because I cannot leave zero. I spent 8 minutes short of 2 hours on the phone to get a fax number to fax in a death certificate. They said they would review the claim 30 days from receiving the fax, which they have not yet agreed they have received. I had the funeral company fax the certificate to them directly, to have proof of delivery. Hopefully that will work. We have just begun the process and already I am shocked at how bad they are. read more

My brother had policies with Monumental Life Insurance which was bought out by Transamerica. I spent 4 hours on the phone trying to talk to a human to get information about my brother's account. Their AI robot is useless. You get passed around so much trying to speak to a human it is really frustrating. This company needs to do a better job with their customer service. read more

My father had an insurance policy with Transamerica and for months we have been requesting the form that they say we need in order to proceed with the claim. I was told twice that it was mailed to my old address even though I've given them my current address several times. Then I was told there was a "typo" on the envelope they mailed. Before that I was told the form did not exist and I'd need to write a letter and have it notarized. Then told that was wrong. They hung up on me several times. Difficulty reaching a supervisor or manager. Told they were "unavailable" or "busy". Once I called and they were in the Philippines, next time South Africa. Even when I requested to speak to someone in America they would not allow it. Months later still no form and claim not paid. Buyer beware. read more

Transamerica uses the stall and delay tactic when required to pay out onlife insurance. They issue checks that the US banking system will not cash because they are not on the Positive Pay List. When you ask them to reissue the check, they stall with process changes and hurdles. When you send them pictures of the check being denied by a major US bank, they stall. When you ask to speak to a manager, they will not talk to you immediately and they will not call you back. The cost to Transamerica to deny payment is now larger than the final payout. It does not make business sense to use this tactic. I highly suggest you never do business with Transamerica or expect you will not get your payout. read more

My 15 year life insurance policy "lapsed" ( terminated ) in 11 28 2022. I was told that all I had to do was "let the policy lapse" This standard in the industry. ( My previous 15 year monthly was $455. If I were to continue it the price per month would have been $11,858 a month ) After that and for two years I never heard from Transamerica again. Now as of October 8, 2024 I have received a letter saying "due to a clarification in the law, your policy remains in-force and is now in the "grace period". "To keep your insurance coverage in force, please send a payment of $30,475.53 at your earliest convenience." WTF - after hearing nothing for two years on a terminated policy!! Tried to call customer service. Ended up in South Africa and after a difficult ( to understand ) conversation, the young woman told me that the company has no call centers in the USA. After 25 minutes the line went bad, she couldn't hear me, and hung up. My original sales guy is no where to be found. I am unable to get anyone on the line that knows anything. This company is a joke related to paying on a life insurance policy. They continue to ask for additional paperwork, ask for the same thing multiple times because they can't find the docs I sent in twice before. The amount is small and the person has been dead for 21 years and yet they ask for ridiculous documents like a copy of the cancelled check that I used to pay the funeral home. Don't use tis company. read more

Transamerica - This is a copy of my trans America policy - Life Insurance Near Me - Cedar Rapids, Iowa

This company has the worst customer service I have ever experienced. I was told by one rep that my wife's life insurance payment problem would be handled immediately, then by another that it'd be handled within 3 days. After receiving no communication, I called another rep who could not do anything and all he could say at the end of our conversation is "Thanks for calling Transamerica. This rep did not know the President of the company's name when I asked for it so I could write him a letter. So I looked up the company' home address in Cedar Rapids IA and wrote a letter to the CEO asking him to intervene and handle this problem. It's been 2 weeks with no communication. Terrible customer service. I would not recommend this company to anyone. read more

The representative stated that I will get the breakdown receipt and confirmation in 24 hours. Since I didnt received the email. I called Transmerica again today April 20th, and waited 1 to 2 hours on hold, same representative answered, the one that was suppose to email me the break down of how they came up the amount wired to me. Again he puts me on hold and hung up. I have no receipt or confirmatipn of the transaction that they processed. I really just want to know what happened to the rest of the annuity. I will attached the Cash Surrender form, which I checked off to elect not tohave federal income tax withheld as well as state tax. I will also attached a snap shot of the wire transfer. Please, I really would appreciate if BBB can do something about this. I just complaint to BBB regarding my CAsh surrender.. This place is the worst company. Theres only 2 representative that answers the calls, no wonder the wait is 1 to 2 hours. and they are always trying to get away with the money you put in. read more

Never buy life insurance from Transamerica. They stalled paying out life insurance for my husband after his death. I had all the necessary paperwork and documents the company requested. THEN I had to change the owner on my own life insurance policy because my husband is deceased. I am the insured. I sent all the required paperwork. 18 months later Transamerica comes up with another excuse this missing paperwork ( that was sent) or some other excuse. They have the death certificate the lawyers letter( that cost me several hundred dollars) all the paperwork, and STILL Won't CHange THE NAME OF THE BENEFICIARY TO MY NAME . The bureaucracy is worse than the dept.of motor vehicles.WHEN I finally get the policy changed. Am going to find another company to do business with. Keep in mind we have paid this policy for at least 30 years and the customer service with NO CHANCE of ever speaking with a supervisor to straighten things out is a NIGHTMARE ! Go elsewhere. Also the phone menu to talk to a human in another country with multiple transfers is so frustrating and a waste of time. I believe this company Transamerica was once a good company 40!years ago but not now. Don't do business with them!!! read more

Incompetent and slow. A full year after they knew that my brokerage account was closed, what do they do? Send my systemic withdrawal check to my same old (closed) brokerage account! It has been 10 days now and I'm still waiting for my check. Even after waking them up to the fact that the check was not cashed into a brokerage account that does not exist, and requesting a "rush order" to get my check mailed to my home address, they STILL have not sent it after 3 friggin' days, and it's now Friday! I will probably have to wait another 3 days before MAYBE these people finally get around to sending me my check.
