This is a must visit. Family owned small town vibe, but don't let that fool you because the food is on another level. We got there at 5pm on a Friday and by 5:30, the place was packed. I ordered the steak tip with fried rice(rice didn't have veggies and was a little hard). My partner got the pho and the broth was amazing and the brisket was incredible. The pho did not come with bean sprouts or other toppings once may experience while at a pho place. Tran's Restaurant in Palacios never disappoints. The dumplings with chili sauce were amazing -- perfectly spicy and full of flavor. The vermicelli bowls with shrimp and chicken were awesome, fresh, and really satisfying. The service was great too -- everyone was helping each other out and making sure customers were taken care of. Wow! My noodles with sauted shrimp & eggrolls was amazing. A unique fish sauce and a lot of shredded carriots, cucumbers, lettuce, and vermicelli with crispy onions made me very happy. This place is no frills, pretty intimate and the food was just awesome. Cannot recommend the egg rolls and pork stir fry enough. They had crawfish the night we went and it smelled amazing. Flavorful and tons of chunks of pork and shrimp. Broth was a little salty for her, fine for me, but she threw down with healthy shot of Sriracha and all was well. I had the pho, made by Momma Tran and you could tell. Big slabs of fatty brisket and flank steak(?). Yeah, boy, squirt that lime in there! They don't scrimp with the meat, green onions, delicious translucent rice noodles and broth TO DIE FOR! An almost floral bouquet on first taste, herbal, robust and not too salty at all. Big city prize winning flavor in little ol' Palacios. Y'all so lucky! Now, for the all-Tran, all the time service. Don't wear a white shirt you want kept that way, they're a little skimpy with the napkins. Who cares? I'll proudly wear the pho I splashed on myself and I'll tell ya where it came from, too. I'm going to go there.. The "Turtle" house seasoned crawfish is my favorite crawfish ever, and instantly converted me to a sucker. It is also going to haunt me forever; it's that good but I only live here temporarily. Next crawfish season I may haul my a$$ 450 miles down here, and that's no joke. I have a pound of spicy Cajun (with potatoes and corn) waiting for me, which is spicier but also great. Nice mix of sizes, also. And don't skip the spring rolls, but maybe do what I did and use them as a bright palate cleanser between the multiple pounds if crawfish you WILL eat. I ordered to-go, so I opted for a margarita (with a straw, I'm no fool ) during the turtle, and have a cold Shiner in hand (also with a straw, no slowing me down with messy hands) for the next batch. Y'all, there is really great crawfish in town at another restaurant.. this is the BEST crawfish. Enjoy, you are lucky indeed if you find yourself in this awesome, friendly place. read more

Passing through Palacios Texas you may notice Tran's Restaurant on the side of Hwy35, its a small restaurant but they do an excellent job running it. Upon entering the restaurant I was met by the owner who had good spirits and was even joking around when I asked where the restroom was. The staff is on point, the food came out fast, fresh and delicious. I had Egg Drop soup, an Egg Roll and the Spicy Hawaiian Chicken. Stopped in here on our way back from 4-H competitions, and found The Best pho we have had in a long time!!! Sometimes in Houston area they get so busy that they loose quality. Service was fantastic, family owned and operated restaurant. Grandma and aunts cooking, and the young Trans doing the service. It was refreshing to see this. Don't come here for seafood - it's bad and way overpriced. The restaurant itself is a bit of a dive - a huge, open space with linoleum floors and barren white walls, furnished with old tables and chairs. It seems to be Vietnamese, but the only Vietnamese dishes I saw the menu were a few variations of pho. The rest of the menu consisted of Chinese dishes and American seafood. The waiter was nice but clueless. He explained the special to me when I asked about it, and told me about some off-menu items, but the prices he told me were pretty much off from what they charge. I ordered a combo of fried shrimp and oysters - 4 shrimp and 4 oysters. The oysters were good. I like to dab them with hot sauce but they didn't have any so I asked for lemons and the waiter brought me limes. That was weird. The shrimp was rubbery. Palacios has a huge shrimp fleet and my shrimp was rubbery. That was a big disappointment. Then the bill came and it was over $30, about $10 more than the waiter quoted and more than double the price of an identical dish at any of Bay City's seafood joints. I thought this was deserving of one star, but maybe their pho is good? Just don't get shrimp in it... read more

Tran's was the perfect spot! We will definitely be back often! Plus they have lunch specials and a drive through--very convenient! We had the general tso and rice and it was freshly cooked and the portions of meat were generous. It was wasn't too spicy but we were told that we can ask for it to be spicier and they will make it to our liking. We also ordered onion rings and fried biscuits as appetizers and they were well worth it! The onion rings came with ketchup and the fries biscuits came with powdered sugar. Yummy!! Great Vietnamese in one of Texas' great shrimping capitals. Because of this Vietnamese have moved here and built The Point, featured on Anthony Bourdain's No Reservations as well as Tran's. The premise is basic, great boiled seafood at varying levels of heat. We got chicken wings as an appetizer served on a bed of onions and de-seeded jalapenos. We dipped them in fish sauce..which we requested. We ate 3 lbs of crawfish and bacon wrapped shrimp that we, once again, dipped in fish sauce. Everything was delicious. Don't expect fancy interior. Try the Pork, Chicken, Shrimp, or Tofu Noodle dish (which are really a Vermicelli Bowls). The Fo is rich and savory. Swieney Bowl is like a vermicelli bowl but with spice stir fried meat or shrimp. The chicken and broccoli was really good! The sauce that was used tasted delicious! The fried rice tasted dry though, so I added it to the sauce, and it was good. My 2 year old had chicken nuggets and fries. The fries were good, but his chicken nuggets were a little over done. My husband enjoyed his General Tso's chicken. My in-laws and other son really enjoyed their sweet and sour chicken. The portions are very plentiful, I thought. All in all, there were a few minor hiccups, but the main dish was delicious. Visited Tran's late Saturday afternoon. Ordered grilled shrimp lo mien (noodles) and shrimp egg foo yung (seafood omelette) then on second thought some egg rolls. Our server, Katie, was very helpful and friendly. After living in a world of fried seafood, it was refreshing to have some grilled seafood. Diep, another server, was friendly n chatty and talked with us about the Vietnamese heritage of the Palacious community. In conclusion, the food was delicious, the restaurant and facilities very clean, the staff pleasant, helpful and friendly and the prices inexpensive. Next time we'll order the pho and more traditional Vietnamese fare on the menu. Hurry on down to Tran's the next time you are in Palacios. read more
