Anna's Tailoring - Uneven hem at bottom and seam on sleeves where the fabric had to be added back

    Anna's Tailoring

I should also mention that in bring it here and having to wear this dress, I was 20-22 weeks pregnant. I dropped it off with Anna and while she was marking the dress I knew in my gut I should not have left it here. Alarm bells started ringing when she called me on Sunday to see if I could pick up the dress on Wednesday instead of Monday when we originally planned because I was needing to travel for this wedding. The dress we chose was due to these gorgeous sleeves that needed a slight hem, as well as the bottom. A dress or gown should always skim the floor and never hover off the ground. I knew my belly might grow and take some length with it, but I couldn't imagine I would've been left with an uneven hemline at the floor that in turn caused me to have to purchase new shoes to bring it closer to the floor. I feel like a seamstress should also take something like that into account. I couldn't even worry about the length of the dress because the sleeves were absolutely butchered. They were uneven, completely lost the shape and she didn't understand "how that happened." I'm giving her a two star because she had a quick turnaround with fixing it but I was a bit baffled that there was no discount given and she also turned around the screen asking for gratuity. Because the dress was still wearable, I gave 10% but in wearing this dress on the day of, I felt it looked so wrong considering I knew what it was supposed to originally be. I won't be returning and feel it necessary to share my experience just in case you plan on taking very important pieces here.

They were able to do it within a week without a rush fee. For a quick turnaround the price was reasonable! The staff were very nice and helpful. I recently took a $2K couture evening gown to Orhan for fit alterations (it was too big) and a…read moreredesign of one element of the dress. The fit alterations need revision as the top half of the gown does not fit and feels twisted on my body. The problems are: a. The center of the bodice is no longer in the center, clearly evident due to the sheer illusion panel in the front (see photo). b. The waist was taken in too much so it is tight and causing puckering at the back waist and the zipper is misshapen (see photo). c. The skirt of the gown has puckering (that I have experienced in the past caused by the lining not being adjusted correctly when the dress was shortened). Orhan said he left room in the waist that could be let out to fit, and he thought this would also correct the problem of the off-center bodice. He denied that the puckering in the skirt had anything to do with the lining and took great offense to my blaming the puckering on his workmanship. He said there is no puckering. The puckering all the way down the diagonal front seam is obvious (see photo). He agreed that he would address problems a. and b. at no further charge as I already spent $650 for the original alterations. In the same sentence he also offered to refund my money. Then he threw out a zinger...he said "I think you have had a problem with us from the beginning". I wasn't sure if he was accusing me of ethnic racism or something else. I told him of my long history with Erol and Feliz before the business was sold to him and his partner, and he said that Erol and Feliz were good business people but horrible tailors, and that he was the excellent tailor. He repeated "you have had a problem with us from the beginning". My husband spoke up this time because I have been unfailingly polite to him and everyone in his shop. I did want him to fix the dress so it was wearable but after him going down this path I decided to take the refund and leave. When someone claims to be "the best", "an expert", "tradition of quality", holds considerable experience in dress alteration services", and charges the prices they do, they should expect to be accountable when there is a substandard outcome, especially when working on such an expensive garment. I took photos and measurements of the altered dress because the naked eye doesn't always see everything, and this seemed to offend him too, but it helped me understand why the dress felt twisted. He should have been embarrassed by the work product, not angry at me. I do not know if the gown can be fixed. The two shoulders are no longer the same width. The left front bodice is not the same length as the right front bodice when measuring shoulder seam to waist seam. Same problem in the back of the bodice which clearly does not have a level horizontal waist seam anymore (see photo).

Totally ignored my request for work on clothes, but responded to my inquiry for classes. Whatever, thought that'd be good. Made an appointment, over agonizingly slow email responses, a month out for in person instructions, and was totally looking forward to it- she gave me a laundry list of things to buy for the session, went to Recreative and bought them- then she cancelled 40 minutes before the appointment due to "a family emergency". Wrote her 8 days later, offering sympathy and asking to reschedule, and still haven't heard back from her. It's been over a month. She seems flakey. She probably shouldn't have a professional profile on Google and just do her thing when available, on Craigslist. Look for classes elsewhere.

After she had my pants for a full month (for simple alterations) she texted me 17 hours before I was supposed to pick them up to tell me they were not done and that she needed two more weeks. I expressed my disappointment and she responded defensively then "politely declined" my "project." Her excuse was that her sewing machine pedal broke weeks prior and that it was supposed to be coming in the mail "any day now." This of course would be reasonable if she would have communicated in a timely manner, which she did not. This would also be understandable if she simply apologized and took responsibility for her mistake, which she also did not. The quality of her work nor her prices are enough to justify the cons of choosing Maullie over a brick and mortar tailor with employees that treat customers with respect and communicate like adults.
