As stations go this is one of the better ones. Everything you need is here.

    Sheffield Interchange

    Sheffield Interchange

Sheffield Interchange is located a fairly short walk away from Sheffield Station and Sheffield…read moreHallam University, it is a huge bus station in terms of stands (30 in total - not all of them are in operation), but I found this to be one of the poorest Interchanges I've ever visited, which is for some reason a glorified bus station, which only offers bus and coach services. (How can they call this an Interchange when it doesn't offer Supertram or Railway facilities, which are a 5-minute walk away!) Split across four different small stations (possibly the only reason why it is an Interchange) sections A/B/C/D the layout is really confusing to a first-timer like myself here, I didn't know where to go or what to do in terms of getting my bus, which caused me to be seconds away from missing my connection. They do have screens showing which buses are departing, but honestly, I can't help but question what purpose they offer, they are confusing and unclear and only show the buses from each section and their final destination, I've seen large boards in the past clearly showing where to go for each popular destination, mainly at train stations and Eldon Square Bus Station in Newcastle, considering there are so many stands, with a confusing layout nonetheless, I can't help but question why this isn't in operation here. The bus station seemed run-down, and a little old-fashioned, it seemed like one you'd find in a really small town which doesn't get many people, let alone the Interchange to serve a big city like Sheffield. There is apparently a Customer Service desk, shop (WHSmith) and charged toilet but I honestly have no clue where they are located, and there was a lack of signs too, adding to the confusing awkwardness of the station. An Interchange which doesn't deserve it's title in summary - with a confusing layout, lack of staff around to help or signs which are surely needed, I'm struggling to name any positives other than it providing decent access via bus to the Railway Stations and University (even then the Supertram is better to get right into the heart of the city and other locations around the region including those listed here) 1*

Ten Million Pounds wasted on an Interchange, or if you prefer it's more used by title "Bus…read moreStation", that hardly anybody uses. Don't get me wrong, it's used, but not as much as it should be for the price it cost to build it, and all at the tax-payers expence. The bus shelters are long corridores with sliding electronic glass doors that allow you to get on and off the few buses that use the Interchange, the corridores are kept clean but they are cold due to there being no indoor heating system. Connected to the Interchange there is a medium size indoor building where you can purchase food, hot and cold drinks, newspapers and other stationary goods, there's clean toilet facilities as well which have CCTV installed. That must have been installed to make sure you pay your "PENNY" when opening the toilet door.

    Sheffield Train Station

Sheffield Station is the busiest station in South Yorkshire, serving the city centre of Sheffield,…read moreit is also part of the Supertram network, where you can continue your journey around Sheffield/Rotherham, and the station is located adjacent to Sheffield Hallam University. The station is managed by East Midlands Railway, who provide most of the major services going in and out of the station, including services to Manchester and London. The station is also served by Transpennine Express on the Manchester Airport - Cleethorpes line (via Doncaster), and also has CrossCountry services (Edinburgh, Reading, Newcastle, York) and many Northern services (local services around Yorkshire and Greater Manchester) Due to the construction of the station, meaning you have to pass through the station to use the footbridge for access to bus and Supertram services, there are no ticket gates here. The main concourse of the station is pretty noticeable and modern, including a couple of shops / small-take away kiosks, there isn't particularly places to sit down and get something to eat/drink in the station which is annoying, but there is a Superdrug and Marks and Spencer Simply Food. There are places nearby in the city centre for food, however. I hate the lift at this station which takes you up to the footbridge, it must be the world's slowest lift, the doors take forever to close up to the point they're forced to have a sign in the lift, it says they're "working on it", but it's been like that for over two years... I guess it will stay like that. I think the station is A-OK, but still miles apart from other stations in Yorkshire including York and Leeds. 3*

Clean and modernized rail station in the Midlands, Sheffield offers transport to London,…read moreManchester, Leeds and Liverpool plus CrossCountry services to Scotland. There is also a tram stop nearby for Sheffield services. It's really quite a nice station with easy access to the tracks on stairs and step-free. There are labels on the steps so that traffic is kept to the left side. Many ticket windows for purchasing tickets if, like me, the automated ticket machine doesn't like your "swipe" credit card. Departure board is easy to read and the signage clearly points out which way to which platforms. There is a beautiful sculpture / fountain out front.

    Sleep Hotel

OK not so much a hotel more of a hostel. The truth again of you get what you pay for. Cheap rooms…read moreget you a cheap bed for the night. However this falls well below my basic expectation of what could be classified as a hotel. Normally I wouldn't complain too much about this but it is the small things that just turn the stay from OK to an inconvenience then onwards to a bad stay entirely. They provide a TV but no remote. A kettle in the room but no running water. It is a shared bathroom but you can barely reach the toilet . you couldn't swing a mouse let alone a cat in there. The shower is no better where you can barely open the doors, the water doesn't get warmer than tepid and there is mould all over the ceiling. The bed is terribly designed and very low to the floor, Not to mention one of the most uncomfortable mattresses of all time. It feels like the the sort of basic mattress you would give away with a cheap bed. No padding and no support. After a couple of nights the low to the floor bed really takes its toll Also don't stay here if you have any mobility issues the stairs are narrow and steep with no lift option. Cleanliness and maintenance seem to be low on the priority list with creaky badly fitted doors radiators that need bleeding windows needing cleaning and fire alarm that shouldn't be held together by duct tape. The hotel uses a self checkin check out process which makes things very easy and cost effective but there doesn't even seem to be a staff member on site just a mobile contact number it just feels very impersonal. The only plus sides are the location it is about a 10 min walk to the city centre and the trams and there is plenty of parking all around although it seems to be metered.
