Sheffield Interchange is located a fairly short walk away from Sheffield Station and Sheffield Hallam University, it is a huge bus station in terms of stands (30 in total - not all of them are in operation), but I found this to be one of the poorest Interchanges I've ever visited, which is for some reason a glorified bus station, which only offers bus and coach services. (How can they call this an Interchange when it doesn't offer Supertram or Railway facilities, which are a 5-minute walk away!)
Split across four different small stations (possibly the only reason why it is an Interchange) sections A/B/C/D the layout is really confusing to a first-timer like myself here, I didn't know where to go or what to do in terms of getting my bus, which caused me to be seconds away from missing my connection.
They do have screens showing which buses are departing, but honestly, I can't help but question what purpose they offer, they are confusing and unclear and only show the buses from each section and their final destination, I've seen large boards in the past clearly showing where to go for each popular destination, mainly at train stations and Eldon Square Bus Station in Newcastle, considering there are so many stands, with a confusing layout nonetheless, I can't help but question why this isn't in operation here.
The bus station seemed run-down, and a little old-fashioned, it seemed like one you'd find in a really small town which doesn't get many people, let alone the Interchange to serve a big city like Sheffield.
There is apparently a Customer Service desk, shop (WHSmith) and charged toilet but I honestly have no clue where they are located, and there was a lack of signs too, adding to the confusing awkwardness of the station.
An Interchange which doesn't deserve it's title in summary - with a confusing layout, lack of staff around to help or signs which are surely needed, I'm struggling to name any positives other than it providing decent access via bus to the Railway Stations and University (even then the Supertram is better to get right into the heart of the city and other locations around the region including those listed here)
