A note about the dog park...This little park is separated into a large dog area and small dog area. I love this as we have two little dogs who believe they are big dogs. Their Napoleonic complexes are better suited for fuzzy friends their own size! Also people who frequent the dog park leave bowls out for the visiting dog's right under the water faucet. Thank you all!! Another nice feature is the doggie doo baggie dispenser under the awning in case you forget to bring your own pick up bags. Additionally, there are a bunch of picnic tables under a covered awning for those warmer days. This is great for when you just want to sit in the shade and socialize with other dog owners while Fido does his own thing. This is a beautiful park just to go and enjoy no matter what your interest may be.

I do believe that many civil war members used this as a meeting and resting place. I recall during my first visit a portion of this particular park was flooded. The area was adjacent to the fountain. Also, there were a few homeless individuals sleeping throughout this particular park, which takes away from the scenery of this particular park. I do hope that the COJ can resolve this discrepancy soon. Also, another minor issue that I noticed that particular day was there were a couple of dog owners who forgot to pick up after their dogs, which is also unsanitary and takes away from this attractive park. I do believe that this park has great potential to stay beautiful, if folks just take the time to keep it clean.

This is a family decent dog park in downtown. The fact that it is free is what brought us to check…read moreit out. We weren't disappointed. We hadn't expected 5-star quality, being free and all, and we didn't receive it either. But it was nice nonetheless. This place is a simple, open green space with nice Palm trees and a paved walkway around the perimeter. There is a water fountain bowl for the dogs as well as a hosing station for those days after it rains. When it does rain were told the whole green is swampy and the dogs get soaked/muddy. I'm sure the dogs love this but I'm not crazy about it. There are also benches periodically around the walkway. Anyway, it was a beautiful day today and our dog really enjoyed the chance to stretch his legs in an area bigger than our tiny box of a yard. This park is in downtown, so it may not seem like the safest of neighborhoods to suburbians like us, but we didn't feel threatened at all, and there were others here, too. The people were friendly and the dogs played nice. The entrance is a double gateway, which is a nice touch. They also have doggie waste bags on a stand as you walk in in case you forgot (and the space looked like pet owners pick up after their dogs). We're really glad we checked this place out - well be back for sure, maybe with Yelp friends next time!

We have been members for years. It's a great dog park, especially when it's hot out...because the pups can cool off in the water at their leisure. Water seems to be safe, as mine swim often and even drink it with no issues. My only complaint, and it's more so my own dog's fault, are the trees. Twice now, dogs running and playing (not paying attention), have inadvertently ran into trees. Luckily no broken bones yet. The trees do provide shade, so that's a plus. Also, I don't like that the dogs have access to a higher area on one side of the park, that's like a 6 ft wall they like to jump from. It has gates on either side but doesn't efficiently keep the dogs from getting up there. The entrance/exit area has a water hose to bathe your furry friends when they're done wrestling each other in the mud. Pro tip* don't wear your good shoes to this park...and don't wear any clothing you don't want dirty...some pups like to say hi and jump on the humans even when they're wet and dirty. It is after all, a dog park. I've seen a couple people get really upset that a dog got them dirty... You can bring balls, frisbees, chuck-its. My girl loves the frisbee. Sometimes she likes to take other's frisbees, and sometimes her's gets taken. So, we try to keep extras. There are usually tennis balls all around the park and in the water... There are no Rufarees or people there managing the park, just members. So please, if your dog is aggressive and not friendly (big or small), don't bring them to the park.

I feel perfectly safe walking around, it's always clean, lawn manicured, quiet, & landscaped beautifully. The gorgeous old tree in the back by the open field is the true show stopper. The loop around the park is fairly short, but very pretty. If I had to take a guess on the length, I'd say it's half a mile long or a little less. It's the perfect length for dog walking on these hot summer days.

Tips -- parking on North and South end, doggie bags available, massive greenway, basic walk path, rec leagues play here occasionally. When I first moved to San Marco, my kickball league used to play here on Sundays. The greenway that expands from the South to North end of the park is big enough for a music festival. Even if noise or crowds aren't your thing, there's plenty of room on the greenway for you to get some peace and quiet on your blanket. Hey, have I mentioned I have a new dog? Yeah, yeah. Well, we took her here for a play date yesterday and it was great. She had enough room to roam around, meet other dogs, and play until she was short of breath. I expect more frequent visits to Alexandria Oaks Park in the future.

A prefect place as well to exercise or sit quietly with your thoughts and take in the beautiful nature through the park. On hot days, this offers not just beauty but a difference of 10-12 degrees and a bit of a breeze. Boone park is an awesome place to refresh yourself.
