Two words: Underwhelming. Expensive…read more Let's start with Underwhelming. 1. Dac's Sweet Tea is from the fountain yet they pass it off as fresh-brewed in-house. 2. The pulled pork and brisket just isn't very good. The brisket falls apart like a roast and the pulled pork has little flavor. 3. I had 6 BBQ sauces and 3 of them were adequate. The Honey BBQ is the best of the lot followed by the Pineapple Habanero and Hot. The Strawberry and Carolina Vinegar is too watered down and the Mustard BBQ is too heavy on the Dijon. They may have been able to get by on Underwhelming but Dac's is going to make you feel like a chump with your wallet. 1. They have a $4 upcharge for Mac and cheese with a BBQ plate. The only problem is the mac and cheese is just ok. I don't understand how the mac and cheese I was given deserved a $4 upcharge. 2. Remember those sauces? Yeah they gave me 2 and charged me 75 cents for each after. Dac's teases you though because they have a truckload of sauces but if you want to sample more than one, they 3 quarter you for each one after. There has to be better BBQ choices here than this Underwhelming and expensive experience.

Yep, I didn't misread it. I was pissed at myself for not telling the staff.... How the phk do you forget to put the phking BBQ meat on the dish, when you're whole business is BBQ'd meat???? They must serve it that way all the time as, the dumbass waitress didn't notice either. You'd think she'd know, "Hey, there's supposed to be meat on here." And why is there no hot water in the bathroom?? Every time I've been in this place, service is minimal, at very best. Seems to be run by 20-something girls, none of which ever seem to know what's going on. They're not friendly or welcoming at all. This place is a shit show.

This little gem is located in the US Cellular Coliseum in downtown Bloomington and is only open Tuesdays through Thursdays from 11 AM to 2 PM. If you attend sporting events or concerts, you've seen the restaurant in the end zone with the glass walls. Well that's the location. You need to park on the IBC side of the coliseum and enter the door on the side near section 113. I've only been twice and both times they've featured smoked: Brisket (freakin tender and most awesome) and pulled pork. They rotate another meat each day: Ribs, Tips, Chicken Quarters, Wings (one or two of these). Sometimes they have other sides like the most awesome BBQ Hash I've ever tasted. It had a mixture of all their BBQ meats diced into a hash like corned beef hash. It was very good. They have all the normal sides like: fried okra, salad bar, green beans, baked beans, mac & cheeses and many others (some rotated). They have chili and corn bread, sometimes pizza, sometimes cheese quesadillas. Add a sweet tea and I think the price is around $11 not counting tip. They get pretty packed and are normally short handed on the wait staff (I think they only have one person serving but a group cooking and refilling the trays). Just grab a table and help yourself and when the waitress makes it over she'll take care of the drink order. I plan to make this a regular stop for lunch when I'm in town.

Given it's double the price of a single meat platter, I expected it to comfortably feed two. On the platter were two solid ribs, a quarter dark chicken, and one hot link which were all solid sharing portions. Brisket which I understand would be one of the more expensive items - was one slice plus a sliver of a dry end attached to it. I'm not sure if that's one slice or a one slice plus what one was counting as a second slice. This was a disappointing mark - I thought about asking the server about whether we should have at least a full second slice. Pulled pork - to me is a much less expensive item compared to brisket - yet a relatively small amount. Not as egregious as the easily measured brisket. Cole slaw - even if it was made in house as opposed a commercial bulk supplier, this is a low cost item no? Small dish. Quality is very good - just a question of the quantity. Tap water here seems filtered for neutral taste. It was a nice day on a quiet Sunday afternoon so we opted to get seated outside on the patio with umbrella shade. Traffic going by was light and quiet. Two servers available during the lull while we were there and the worked as a team to check on us outside.

Our server was kind, attentive and courteous. The ambience was warm and inviting. That's where the positive review ends. I was in the mood for smoked brisket and, possibly, some ribs. And fortunately for me, a Combo Plater was on the menu. I ordered it. The meal came with two very thin slices of brisket, coleslaw, tatter tots, a piece of cornbread and something else I cannot describe. The brisket was about 30% fat and dry, the cornbread was delicious, and the ribs were NOT edible. They were so tough, I literally could not eat them. I passed one of my ribs to my son who also struggled! Finally, for an "Ale House", they sure didn't have a handle on their beer offerings. They did not have a beer menu, just a scan code on the main menu. No problem, I'll check. That's when the server informed us that they "didn't have many of the beers on the list". She went on: "tell me what you want and I'll see if we have it". So, trial and error on the Ale front, I see no reason to return.

Review Visit: March 20th, 2019…read more Where there is smoke, there is usually fire. This fire was caused by barbecue sauce mixed with jalapenos. On a dreary and boring day off from work, I asked my mom out to lunch. Since she loves BBQ, I asked if she wanted to come here. Not long after that, the small lunch grew to include my sister and niece as they were also free and hungry. We pulled up shortly after they opened and must've been the first customers there as the place was empty. Upon entering, we were greeted by one of the chefs and he asked us if it were our first time there, as we had the clueless look on our face on how to order. He told us the layout is similar to a cafeteria. You order your main meal with him and then you slide down and get your sides/extras from the second chef. At the end of that is the cashier. I have to say that at every stop, the staff was patient and courteous to us ordering our food. The menu is posted behind the food counter, so you can peruse it while deciding what you want to eat. Once you are done paying, you carry your food to a table of your choice. If you ordered wings or anything that needed cooked, they will bring it out to your table. We all sat down and immediately dug in to our food. I got up to get ketchup for my fries and noticed they had jalapenos available. So, I snagged some of those for my pulled pork sandwich. That was a mistake but a good one. Hot hot hot! The first bite was the fire being started. By the 3rd or 4th bite, my mouth was ablaze. Between the jalapenos and the mixed bbq sauce (combination of hot and mild, I believe), my sister asked if I needed the fire department. I politely declined as I downed my soda and took some deep breaths to extinguish the five-alarm fire in my mouth. My mom got the 'Cue Shoe, which is their version of a horseshoe. She was in love after the first bite. My niece got some mild barbecue wings and chili fries. She didn't seem too excited about the wings until she got some hot sauce to dip them in. My sister got one of the turkey sandwiches and also fell in love after the first bite. She was so impressed that she wants to come back for dinner on her birthday. Price-wise, this place is cheap for the quality you get. My meal was $9 for a sandwich, two sides, and a drink. If you want, you can order just the a sandwich for as little as $4.99. I've been to a few barbecue places and this one wins on both price and quality. As for the restaurant itself, it has a heavy Texas theme. Texas license plates all over the walls. Wood floors, walls, and ceilings. Southern hospitality from the staff. On the back wall, they had one of the coolest things I've seen in awhile. A mosaic made of beer bottle caps. You can see it in the gallery below. All-in-all, it was a great way to spend the afternoon with the family. We left with full bellies and smiles on our faces. Those smiles may be hidden behind the barbecue sauce left on our cheeks from the food.

Not real busy, but I did notice that there seemed to be several "Door Dash" pickups while we ate dinner. We had good service. Our waitress was attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. We ordered 1/2 rack ribs (4 stars), 1/2lb Brisket (3 1/2 stars), Brunswick stew (4 1/2 starts), and Chili Con Carnie (5 stars). The house made barbecue sauce was the highlight of the meal (5 Stars). The ribs were very good and fell off the bone. The sauce made them exceptional. Brisket was tasty, but a little dry for my wife's liking. In hindsight, we probably should have ordered the brisket "chopped". The waitress indicated that the "chopped" brisket was more "fatty". The Chili Con Carnie was very very good. Not something that you see at a Barbeque place often. I highly recommend. The key lime pie was very tasty and better than what you get at most places. Although not quite exceptional. Worth a try though. Overall, we liked the Blue Duck Barbecue Tavern. Great location and lots of character. Very good ribs, excellent homemade barbeque sauce.
