When my grandfather arrived at the memory care wing of Meadow Brook, the staff updated me by email…read morethat he was happily pushing people in wheelchairs because he was doing so well. This was easy for me to believe, because he had done so well during his month at Greenfield Healthcare Center once released from a couple weeks at Community Hospital North due to an infection. But it was downhill from there--more than likely due to the facility's near-complete lack of memory care activities, its emphasis on apartment-style living that increases isolation, and its use of benzodiazepines/pharmacological restraint in general (something I questioned in particular that they refused to respond to unlike other facilities I asked). As my dad put it from what he saw multiple times in the memory care wing's (beautiful) day room: "They were all zombies who couldn't even hold their heads up." My grandfather fell 12 times (that we know of) in his month and a half at Meadow Brook. He developed acute encephalopathy, a subdural hematoma, at least one UTI and was sent to a psychiatric hospital to get his "meds figured out." Yet, he kept going because he had always loved life and had hope. Unfortunately, that hope was unfounded. His first POA refused to move him to another facility--even when Meadow Brook eventually urged her to do so once the Department of Health and Adult Protective Service opened investigations--and Meadow Brook never contacted his successor POAs when moving him was a matter of life or death (he, in fact, died last Sunday) and, therefore, superseded HIPAA regulations. After my grandfather's final fall at Meadow Brook, he was taken to the hospital yet again. It was one fall too many. The bright spot of this post is that I convinced his POA to release him to Allisonville Meadows down the street. Skilled nurses and hospice workers in Allisonville Meadows' memory care unit showed him the utmost respect and dignity during his final week and a half of life. If you're thinking of sending your loved one to Meadow Brook for memory care, please don't. Or at least educate yourself based on complaint records with the State and also tour the facility morning, noon and night at unplanned times. I gave Meadow Brook two stars only because I have no experience with its assisted living portion, which is where all the amenities are. Here is my grandfather's obituary. He was a wonderful man. https://www.legacy.com/us/obituaries/name/robert-meadows-obituary?id=53976750 Sources: Indiana State Department of Health report: https://www.in.gov/health/reports/QAMIS/ltccr/cr013163.htm Synopsis of Meadow Brook's initial plan for "transitional" memory care: https://seniorcare.levinassociates.com/2014/06/19/spectrum-opens-meadow-brook-senior-living-fishers-indiana/

We arrived at lunch and the dining room looked absolutely beautiful. The food smelled good and was artfully presented. We had great hopes for this assisted living community based upon what we had seen. However we were told by a sister spectrum community (Enclave @ Saxony) that the Meadowbrook community was not working according to the Spectrum corporate guidelines with respect to special diets. Our worry was that in the event that the current chef left, we would be left Spectrum corporate view on special diets which is not acceptable for us. (See our review on the Enclave at Saxony) This community gets four stars for their focus on meeting their customers needs. Should they be required to move to the Spectrum corporate policy I would change this to one star. Investigate your choices very carefully.

Then I found out that they didn't even have the proper cna's these were home health aides!!! If your mom is given the wrong pills good luck on them telling you, you will only find out when mom is sent to the hospital!! Then good luck with the kitchen staff they don't seem to ever get things right. And housekeeping is just horrible. Mom had the same floor stains for more than a week before housekeeping finally came in and cleaned the room!!! Trash is piled up. And when you talk to the head of nursing she doesn't even show an ounce of concern!!! On top of that I looked up the license for AMY AND BOBBI and they aren't even insulin certified and the lead nurse said they were!!!! Be careful where you send your parents!

They advertise as being first class and willing & able to meet your Special Diet needs with 'made to order meals!' (See quote from brochure regarding 'Special Diets' shown at end of this review.**) Investigate your Senior Living choices thoroughly! If you really want something different than the Standard American Diet (SAD) and what you desire is neither 'Low Sugar' nor 'No Added Salt' then think twice. The Enclave SR @ Saxony & the Spectrum Corporate Management team are unwilling to accommodate any other Special Diet variation including Vegetarian, Vegan & Whole Foods Plant Based. We were extremely disappointed that Spectrum is both INFLEXIBLE & UNWILLING to actually meet the new opportunity to serve & support the growing group of seniors who wish to make healthy food & lifestyle choices! ** Brochure quote: "Special Diets In addition to nutritious delicious meals, we can accommodate most any dietary restriction. And for those in Memory Care, we offer our unique Brain Boosting Benefits™ (B3) Smoothie Program so you get the raw super foods you need for brain health."

I stayed in St. Vincent hospital as long as I could under the supervision of Goodman-Campbell. When insurance said that I needed to be released from the hospital the ambulance drove me to this rehabilitation facility. They punished me by insisting that I sit up without assistance for five minutes. I screamed in pain and slunk out of my wheelchair and was laying partially on the floor before a nurse came back into the room. She chastised me for yelling. I said that I needed my wife, and wanted to call my attorney. She denied my request. That night I had to sleep in a hospital bed that I soaked with urine.....I had a spinal cord injury after all. After trying to sleep in my own urine overnight a morning nurse came in. He was so compassionate compared to what I experienced heretofore at Hamilton Trace. He cleaned me up and changed my sheets. Two hours later my wife was allowed to visit. The chief nurse said that I had to return to the hospital after existing one and one half days in hell with this outfit. Yes, I waited in pain until another ambulance came to return me to from where I came. Terrible experience. I can't even think about the pain these people let me suffer saying that I needed to sit up for five minutes and then they chided me for screaming in pain, Bad show all around. I pray to God that this memory will not haunt me, causing nightmares.

His heart medication got lowered because of this treatment. He was sent to this Rehab center -- for 3 weeks -- w/o checking his heart medication?? As for rehab, he only got simple exercise for 45 minutes during Mon thru Fri, which he could have done better at home AND could have seen his heart doctor to update his heart meds.!! -- During his 3 week stay at this Rehab, he only saw doctors once a week who did not suggest his lowered meds. while in hospital. -- Do NOT go to Rehab after getting discharged out of hospital. Go home do see your doctors and do outside Rehab facilities after being discharged from hospital. -- While in Rehab, you do not see doctors about your condition and the Rehab is a JOKE. -- My husband almost died because his heart med (Water pills) were lowered for the 3 weeks in Rehab. and the Rehab ?? did not do anything but get him closer to death. -- A day after he was released from Rehab, he almost died. We admitted him to IU North that fixed the heart problem he had gone thru from the Pneumonia problem to Rehab -- but that messed up his heart problem while in Rehab. -- Do not do Rehab because they cannot fix you medicine problems and they not help with REHAB problems -- very low, few exercise problems!
