I bid on a collection of vinyl records and it took several weeks of inquiring and waiting before their third-party shipping company sent them to me. When they arrived, many albums were missing, including a Beatles White album with a serial number that's worth hundreds of dollars. I emailed and called multiple times before the owner started answering and then he accused me of being a "West Coast Scammer", a "liar", and threatened me with his attorneys. He knows that the records are much more valuable than what I won them for, yet he still accused me of scamming him for a refund when all I want is my records. He never once offered to inquire at his warehouse, and refused to provide any more information about his shipping partner. When I called the shipping company, they were full of misinformation. The records were shipped from a hair extension salon and neither the shipping company nor the hair salon has a website or physical address. I'm starting a police investigation into the matter and find this whole experience incredibly violating and disturbing. read more

Edited: I ended up receiving a little help with the issue when I proposed a simple fix. I do appreciate that. I have been a frequent customer of high-end estate sales in the Hamptons area for the past five years. I don't often use Trading post estate sales, and will not use them ever again. There is a reason that White Goose estate sales is rated so high and that Trading Post has terrible customer service reviews. One of their workers loaded a shelving unit into the trunk of my new car, carelessly denting, and damaging it. I did not ask for help with loading the item in my car, and in fact, told him slow down, be careful please, because I noticed that he was rushing and careless and having trouble holding it by himself. I wanted him to stop so I could lift one end. Not only was my bumper damaged and white paint chips everywhere from the shelving unit banging into the car, but the actual shelving unit was damaged during the move into the car. I asked for the manager to come out and see the obvious damage, he took a photo and I did too, and he told me that he would check with the owner on what could be done to help me with the repair. When I sent the estimate, the owner sent a message through the manager: "I spoke to the owner yesterday. He said there is nothing we can do since our guys loading cars is not part of our service and just something they do to be helpful." I never asked for help loading it in the first place and it was the opposite of helpful. There has not been any apology or accountability taken for the fact that their worker damaged a car that I had only just purchased two weeks prior. It's just disappointing to deal with a company that doesn't care at all about its customers experience. Additionally, I had to point out to them that they misrepresented expensive Serena and lily chairs on the auction site (they were not S and L). Thankfully they did release me from my bid. read more

I am kind of new to the whole "estate sale" thing I am not a regular buyer at estate sales. When I see something I need? I'll take a shot. I am not a re-seller or looking to make money. Most of the estate sale companies I have dealt with have their positives and negatives. You learn who to deal with and who to avoid. About the service in using the site. Its clean, informative, always has great pictures and descriptions of items listed and lets face it - auctions are a LOT of fun. One weekend I purchased a few items from Trading Posts auctions at two separate sales that the pickups were on Saturday and Sunday. Great I figured. I arrived at the first house on Saturday. I purchased a wall hanging large shelf/cabinet thing that was perfect for what I needed it for. I arrived there and the house was filled with smoke from a fireplace that they started a fire in (it was very cold and I'm not sure the heat was on) and did not open the flue to vent the smoke. Normally I would not care about something like this as its not my house. My problem is I have a degenerative lung condition from being around a certain terrorist attack in Manhattan and I cannot handle being in smoke filled environments for long before my lungs become severely irritated. Now I don't blame them for this there is no way they could not have known this. That is when it gets REALLY odd. The shelf I bought was still attached and hanging on the wall in the home with at least 10 items on top of it. I asked the question to the gentleman working the sale Doug "How are we going to get this off the wall?" His response was "I don't know what this "we" stuff you're talking about means but have at it." I figured he was really busy and brushed the comment off. OK I figured. After he helped clear the items off of and from inside the shelf I pulled it off the wall it came off as it was hanging on a custom cut piece of wood. It was easy no complaints there. The wood, cut to hold the shelf on the wall screwed to the wall with three screws. I asked him if he had a screwdriver so I could remove the wood so I could hang it in my house. This was the response. "You can't take that. Its attached to the house." "How am I supposed to hang the shelf without it" I asked. "That's your problem. Go to Home Depot and find something." "Its a piece of wood. Don't you think I can just remove it? Its custom made to hang this shelf." "No." I said, needing to get out of the smoke filled house "This is bullshit." I signed the form and got out of the house. Now this next part is all my fault and I take responsibility for it. I called the companies number and left a message stating that the guy at his particular sale "acted like an asshole." I was agitated. I was angry. No excuse but I did what I did and take responsibility for that. Not more than 5 minutes later I get a call back. I say hello. "Yeah. This is the asshole calling. If you had a problem with me why didn't you say it to my face." "I thought I did." He proceeded to go on a tirade about how people like me always complained.. I just said forget it and hung up the phone. My lungs were burning from the smoke and I was worried I would need another trip to the hospital. Luckily for me I was ok and the burning faded after about 30 minutes. Later on I was in Home Depot looking for something I could use to hang the shelf and got a text message. "This is the asshole. I asked the homeowner and they said it was ok to take the wood off the wall. I'll leave it outside if you want to come and get it." I thought to myself great.. that's really nice of him to do that after the unpleasantness. I responded "Thank you. I'm picking up things from your other sale tomorrow I will pick it up then if thats OK. Sorry for the message for medical reasons I do not do good around smoke." He did not respond. I figured great! He made the effort to make it right and Ill get what I need to hang the shelf. No harm no foul Great job Doug! The next day I went to the other sale to pick up other items I purchased from another sale. I walked in and he immediately recognized me and came over. I handed him my receipt and he said "Oh the Asshole is here." he immediately turned his back to me to one of his employees and handed him my receipt and walked away before I could say anything. I was dumbfounded that after I apologized for my comment he still felt the need to "get the last word". His employee was super nice and helpful and I had no other issues. I know Doug will probably read all this and come up with some snarky response below but the bottom line is he did the right thing. I would do business with them again I am not thin skinned. Doug and crew did a splendid job of collecting and photographing the contents of my Bellmore house. Doug assembled the contents of what you want sold and accurately describes it on the Trading Post auction site along with professional patient photographs. He has a professional photographer who is patient and careful. I have been considering selling this house and there was stuff here for as long as 50 years. He is understanding of your situation and compassionate realizing you've had stuff for a long time but makes the process simple. Doug helps rid the clutter and and emotional weight of what to do with all your stuff. It just makes things easier now knowing it'll be easier to sell your house. I got paid 8 days after everyone picked up there stuff 2 Sundays ago. You get a clear typed up explanation of what everything sold and your amount. Lastly, I searched around and liked what I heard when I spoke to Doug. He came to my house sat with me and answered all my questions. They do the work and you get paid and he's good people. Doug Drew is very arrogant and does not possess any customer service skills. I confidently bid on a item( 5 placemats to be exact) meaat for my older parents. They had something similar years ago so when I saw it I bid..I won but I did not check the pick up date(yes my error but not end of the world)..but as I have done with other more reputable "auctioneers" on Auction Ninja I asked for my 5 little items to be left on the property anywhere I could retrieve next day as I was out of town for my sons college graduation. He immediately stated he "doesnt do that". I could have my items sent to Farmingdale LI (dont even know where that is) or forfeit. I asked many times please just leave under a tree anywhere at end of driveway anywhere I couldnt make it. He answered "rules are rules" why would I be any different and he believes HIS clients wouldnt want "BOTTOM FEEDERS" on their property?? Who the Hell does he think I am??? I a multidegree individual and how dare he not leave the items I PAID for at a location anywhere (the curb?) and NOW he refers to paying customers as "bottomfeeders"?? So once he receives money from CUSTOMERS they are considered scum??? Disgusting human being .. He deleted me off the site so I would not be able to leave a rating for the item I paid for but I am smart enough to find ways for others to learn his business acumen!!!!!!!! read more

The quality of the piece I purchased from Trading Post Estate Sales was in terrible condition. The photos and description did not mention that the piece was falling apart. Avoid dealing with Doug and his crew at all costs. They misrepresent a lot of the items they sell. They fail to point out any flaws and show only the best sides of items. This is unfair to the purchaser and I understand it's buyer beware but shouldn't they have an ethical obligation to represent the items as accurately as possible. This seems to be the norm now because it happened to me more than once. For example ... I won a relatively cheap metal computer table. When I arrived on location to pick it up. It was rusted and pretty much collapsed in my hand. I wasn't upset because I didn't pay much for it but then I was told if I didn't remove it I would have to pay $25.00. Fact is if they would have taken accurate photos showing defects I would have never bid on it. On a personally note I don't have a problem when picking something up that they are always understaffed but when the staff disrespects and treats buyers rudely it tends to bother me. My advice for the buyer is beware most of the time the item is not being represented well. For the seller, I would suggest you do a little research and ask around there are so many other better estate sale companies that will be much more professional and get you every penny you deserve for your estate. This auction company needs to be destroyed quickly. I bought 6 pcs of water color paintings what WWII subjects for $ 175 at this auction company. I was very excited about this collection and crossed two bridges in New Jersey to Long Island for pick them up. It took 1 hour and 10 minutes, 2 hours and 30 minutes for round-trip, and spent $ 30 for toll fee. However, the paintings are cheap print rather than a watercolor painting. I was so angry, but no one responsblity about the situation. Never buy goods from this auction site. I wasted my Sunday and wasted the useless toll fee and suffered only the vehicle. read more

I've been to numerous estate sales purchasing home goods for needy veterans, trading post was the worst run estate sale I've ever been to. Doug the supposed owner, was very rude, nasty, and ignorant . As I was at his sale in Ho Ho Kus Nj, more than one other buyer was complaining about his terrible attitude , it actually seemed as if he was looking for a fight, the poor wife and kids, if he has any . BUYER BEWARE! I bought $300 worth of stereo equipment from this company that turned out to be falsely advertised. They put a cheap stereo receiver in the packaging of an expensive one, and sold it to me as such. When I found out, I figured it was an honest mistake so I contacted Doug, and he told me tough luck, they don't accept returns. Turns out this was a classic bait and switch. I'd expect this from a sleazeball seller on Craigslist, but not from a "professional" estate sale company. I buy and sell things all the time, and understand things get mixed up sometimes, but when a good seller makes a mistake like that, they stand by it. This company can't be trusted. read more

Very deceiving items not correctly described, pictures are horrible. I purchased an item listed as SILVER CANDLEHOLDERS. There were a couple of poor pictures and no description, they were actually wooden craft store candle holders painted silver, that's deception. Site owner claims the title and description are accurate for this item. On another occasion I was given an item the site owner purchased by ACCIDENT, just so happens I was bidding against someone at auction close. Fishy sounding to me. Buyer beware, seems like they will do anything to make a buck. Seller beware, the exposure to clients is almost nonexistent with this company. Your items will sell for pennies on the dollar at best. There are plenty of better and more reputable online auctions to deal with, leave this one alone. Do your homework. Not a very honest business! read more
