Located on the corner of a busy intersection so I find it easier just driving through the whole parking lot and coming through from the furniture stores side. read more

Today I visited Trader Joe's with my two small Maltese dogs. They are very clean, well-groomed, and I placed them in the child seat area of the cart using a baby cart cover so they wouldn't touch the cart itself. As I was walking in, an employee told me I couldn't have my dogs in the cart and said that "people get grossed out" when dogs are in shopping carts because food goes there. I understand the concern, but I made sure there was a protective cover, and my dogs were not in direct contact with the cart. What bothered me was the way it was communicated. The employee came across as rude and told me that next time I need to carry my dogs or not bring them at all. I've seen other customers with small dogs in carts at this location before, and I've never seen them being told anything, which made the situation feel unfair. I respect store policies, but I believe they should be enforced consistently and communicated respectfully to all customers. I hope this feedback helps improve how situations like this are handled in the future. read more

The team member Court, who was our cashier, brightened my fiancée and I's day when checking out by going above and beyond! I've always had awesome customer service at this location, but today one employee in particular went above and beyond to make my day, and they deserve a 5 star review. When we went to the cash register, it started as any other interaction at Trader Joe's..."How are you, what do you have goin on today?" I let Court know that we were shopping for snacks because I was having surgery tomorrow. Court ended up giving me some chocolates to add to my snack pile. I've been shopping at TJ's for years and I dearly love TJ's especially the different interesting food products that they bring in for their various holidays especially at Christmas. We all know Trader Joe's is known for their yummy treats, easy to shop store layout, and friendly service.. but the customer service at this location is like soooooo great. Every time I visit this location I feel like I am in a small midwest town. Everyone is so genuinely kind and helpful. All of my favorite items are always in stock and if its not, I know I can pop in the following day and it will more than likely be available. My only complaint is that their freezer section is not well organized. My local Trader Joe's in LA has all of the breakfast items nest to each other and same for all other items like Mexican, Asian, Seasonal, Veggies, etc etc.. but like thats a first world problem. I've always loved TJs and have been shopping at their various locations for most of my life. That said, this (my home) location is a gem. The staff is so kind and friendly (per usual) and they treat my young children so well that even my toddlers love coming to shop. Special shout out to Stacey who let my son help today and made his evening. He was grinning ear to ear. I wish I could give her the employee of the month award but for now yelp recognition will have to do. ---- I shop here weekly and lately the produce section has been stocked w a lot of spoiled goods. I have to check very carefully and even so, I often time will have at least one item that I discover is spoiled with each weekly haul. Typically, I've been pretty laid back about the inconvenience because TJs will refund you for the spoiled things and I go frequently. Today, however, one crew member/manager gave me a hard time for not bringing up my return item to the front in advance and rather telling the cashier when I was paying. There was zero apologies for me having to deal w the inconvenience of their spoiled products being sold and I didn't appreciate the tone. As a frequent shopper who's done nearly half my grocery shopping here, I tend to love TJ in part for the fantastic customer service. I went to this Trader Joe's a couple months ago, in October 2024, and had one of the most horrible, embarrassing, humiliating experiences I have ever had in my entire life. I walked out of the store with a bottle of shampoo and a bottle of Kefir and I was approached by employee, Mike Kwan, and surrounded by two other male employees in the parking lot, which felt very intimidating. Mike asked me if I purchased the items and demanded to see my receipt. I refused to show him the receipt and asked him if he thought I stole the items and asked him if it looked like I could not afford the items. I was wearing Birkenstocks, shorts, a t-shirt, with a Señor Lopez pullover on top, probably looking like the least suspicious man ever. I told him, "Let's go back inside to the woman who checked me out and ask her if I stole these items." We walked back into the store and I was followed by Mike and his enforcers. I approached the woman at the register and said to her, "This guy thinks I stole these items." She said, "No. I checked him out at this register." I left the store, very upset, but I could not shake this event and I could not get it out of my head, so I returned to the store a few hours later and spoke with a manager, who asked me if I wanted to talk with Mike. I said I wanted to talk with Mike to find out what he was thinking, what was his thought process for accusing me of theft? He said he did not see me purchase the items and saw me walk out of the store at a brisk pace, so he assumed I stole the items. Apologies were made and I left the store again but I have not been able to shake the experience and I still have not been able to get it out of my head. I vowed to myself to never support that specific Trader Joe's again. Earlier this month, in December 2024, I went back into the store but I felt traumatized and embarrassed about someone noticing me and remembering the event. I did not expect to feel like this but it must have been a traumatic experience because I did have these feelings when I entered the store. This is the first time I have mentioned this event and now I am wondering if there is some legal compensation for my traumatic experience. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions about how I should proceed with this? read more

Trader Joe's in Santa Maria is great. The staff is friendly. They are knowledgeable and know their products well. The store is always kept up nicely and it is organized extremely well. If you are looking for fresh flowers Trader Joe's is definitely the way to go. They have bundles starting as low as $3.99 I believe. The produce is great and they have fresh and packaged as well. The lunchmeat and bacon are great there as well as their large cheese section. I would stay away from the meat. I once bought a package of chicken and it was definitely spoiled though the date on the package was good for quite a while. I haven't tried the meat again and this was years ago so maybe things have improved but I am not going to be the one to see if it has. I also love the body care products. They have amazing lotions, hair serums, soaps that smell amazing and so much more. Prices here are reasonable and you can get some standard and also some very unique products. This would be regarding customer service. Today customer service just wasn't what it normally was or is or should be. There were some bagging issues with some wet items being put in a cloth tote that is a dry item we were purchasing. At the checkstand One should've figured it out. Trader Joe's (Santa Maria, Ca.) has a "very big problem" with "standing behind" the products that a customer (a "regular"; at least 3 times a week customer at that) lays down their money for, and "standing behind and honoring" their "return/exchange" policy: "We tried it; we liked it; if you don't like it - bring it back for a full refund or exchange - no questions asked." I had to return their "Trader Joe's Organic Animal Crackers" because they were "dry and unsweet", and a bag of "Trader Joe's Organic Russet Potatoes" because they "sprouted overnight" and could not be used. Store manager "Heidi" gave me a "hard time" (grilling me in "very hostile tones" about "WHY I was returning" the "Trader Joe's Organic Animal Crackers) at "check out" (actually it was an "exchange" as they subtracted the amount of the "returned" items from my present grocery purchase). The very moment that I walked out of the store, I was "unprofessionally ambushed and swarmed" by "Heidi and another manager: Kegan" to corner me and tell me that concerning any "future" returns/exchanges" - that they would no longer "be honored." It was a "very unprofessional; unpleasant" experience. In other words, no matter how "unsatisfactory" their products turned out to be (Organic Chicken that was not "fresh"; overcooked (charred) and dry bread and cookies; too tasteless; hidden unhealthy ingredients (palm; soybean and canola oil; dairy); damaged packaging - "too bad"; they would keep my money and I would be "stuck with the products." The "bottom line": In "violation" of their own "return/exchange policy", this Trader Joe's (via managers "Heidi and Kegan") is "only" about "your money coming their way" and to hell with "customer satisfaction" and the "loss" to the customer of said "customer's money." I am no longer going to be spending the "bulk of my grocery money" (as I have been doing "for quite a while now") at Trader Joe's Santa Maria, Ca. The "moral of the story": Be "very careful" where, and to whom you spend your money. read more

This is a great Trader Joe's. Everyone is always friendly and helpful. I am VERY happy with the way they are treating the COVID situation. They only let a certain number of people in the store. They only open every other checkout line. They don't allow one person to buy an excessive number of a single item. They sterilize the carts and the checkout lanes after every customer. It is awesome! I see a handful of people (the vocal minority) leaving reviews complaining about staff asking them to pull their mask up over their nose. At this point, I shop at Trader Joes BECAUSE they don't tolerate that behavior. Those people that have their mask below their nose (which is no better than not wearing a mask at all) are being selfish and/or don't understand how COVID spreads. At least one person said "I understand covid restrictions," yet they disregarded the restrictions and still wore their mask below their nose. They are endangering everyone around them. And they are complaining because they weren't ask politely enough? It's been nine months, and you wonder why they might not ask you politely to do what you should have done without being asked? That is the behavior of a child. Stop your whining and take the most basic precaution to protect those around you. I give this place a 1 star because of harassment. I can not wear a mask for medical reasons. You can not refuse service, this is medical discrimination. I had the best experience with a crew member last night around 5/530p. I went to Trader Joe's because it's been a rough day, I just lost my job and haven't had the energy to get groceries. I went last night and filled up a hand basket to limit how much I spent. When I was checking out he was so friendly. We talked about my food choices, TikTok's because that's where most of my choices came from and he was so sweet. It was nice to get out of the sad funk I had been in the past few days after loosing my job. I believe his name was Andrew, he was pretty tall with colored eyes and bald. And they all are very informed, had a great conversation with an employee about hydrogenated oil while at check out lol. There's always a great selection of organic produce and trail mixes. They also have a huge selection of wine at great prices. Stop by at the right time and they prepare plates of meal ideas for customers to try. Perfect for me who isn't creative ! The SM location is my favorite. Love seeing Mike the friendly and welcoming guy who always has a smile on his face. This is my "go to" for a quick snack or lunch. I like the Curried Chicken Salad. So much variety with all the different types: Cobb, Asian, Chopped -- also lots of grain based salads. Kombucha selection is AWESOME !! Lots to chose from. Fresh pressed juices are amazing. Just left the store. Were it not for the inconsistent treatment at the register this rating would be higher. Important to note I am in no way an anti-masker and was wearing mine properly as I always do. When I got to the register they switched cashiers. She told me I had to stand next to the sign while being rung up (even though they have a plexiglass window for you to stand behind and both of us were wearing masks). The sign is quite a distance from the register, so if you want to see that the prices are ringing up properly, you can't see it based on where the prices display. As I looked at all of the other registers ringing guests up, none of them were making their guests stand near the sign. Once she was finished ringing me up she told me I had to wait to pay until the bagger completed bagging. Seriously???? What is the point of the plexiglass if I'm not allowed to go near the register?? I have been in other Trader Joe's locations since the pandemic and all of the other ones I have gone into simply have the plexiglass and the masking requirement. Being the only guest who's cashier seemed to be enforcing this made it even worse. Based on that treatment alone I would have placed the rating even lower, but the store was clean and the staff was fairly friendly. Saturday evening, (I had just moved into a new house that day) I didn't have any groceries so I took my 5 year old with me to Trader Joe's.. it was about 20 minutes before they closed... well, I tried to rush and get all the stuff I needed. Made it to check out about 2 min before closing. And let me tell you, I am IMPRESSED with our check out woman.. I believe her name was Unique. She was SO kind and she gave my daughter about 10 sticker (which made her super happy!) was so kind to me and so polite... most places want you to get out of there and you can tell, but her, she was amazing!
