Photo and makeup were VERY…read moreimportant to me. I looked at her portfolio and it really had all the styling that I was looking for and she seemed really versatile. I thought I would find a photographer easily, but then once I started looking at portfolios I was a lot more particular than I realized I would be. I do design/photo art direction so maybe that's why. Makayla and I connected over the phone and I instantly liked her. She is so sweet. A photographers personality is so important. It turned out she got married at the same venue! Small world! That just made me feel like it was meant to be, also a perk that she knew the grounds really well!  We also did our engagement shoot with Mikayla, and she totally followed the styling vision I had, and recommended the location (we shot in Old sac, great choice, btw). We have some photos I will cherish for a lifetime.  During the wedding Makayla was working her butt off!!! She went ABOVE AND BEYOND.  She got us a gift (omg so thoughtful and sweet!) She was hustling, running all over the place getting ALL the shots. I had a bad wedding coordinator and poor Makayla made up for her slack. She put the boutonnieres on the groomsmen and dried the bouquets for us ladies. NOT her job but she did it anyway because the coordinator was MIA! She also was sometimes the only person I hired around, and when we weren't on schedule I was like "where is the coordinator?!" Poor Makayla was helping do the coordinator's job!! I felt so bad later and just told her sorry and thank you and she was completely professional and knew I was NOT freaking out because of her. Also I forgot to grab my bouquet as I walked down the aisle and Makayla RAN to go get it/get some one to grab it for me. Literally my hero, and again, not her responsibility!! She just cared THAT much.  We just got our sneak peeks for the wedding back from her and oh my goodness, I cried. The photos are STUNNING. I want them hung up all over my house. This isn't even all of them!! I cannot recommend her enough. Also the portal system you use for sharing out photos is a really nice system. I also shared an album of photos ahead of time and she remembered/ had the photos for reference of all the shots I wanted that I was forgetting about on the day of. Also she got some great dance floor pics! I feel like the nighttime shots and the indoor ones are just as gorgeous as the daytime ones!!  If I ever need photoshoots for any life events, or if I ever have anyone needing a recommendation for a photographer, I will 100% refer them to Makayla. All my bridesmaids (which are designers/art directors from old jobs) were like wow she has the eye! The groomsmen thought Makayla was the coordinator. That's how much she was helping compared to the actual coordinator. I will add some of the photos so you can see how STUNNING THEY ARE. Makayla captured both our wedding and our engagement photos. She was professional, quick to respond and willing to try different types of styles in our engagement photos so we could choose a style we wanted for our wedding. I would and have recommended Makayla to friends and family. Wedding planning can be expensive but I think Makayla is worth every penny especially if you are doing a destination wedding. Overall I think what sets Makayla apart from other photographers was her complete respect for what we wanted as a couple, both for privacy in what we wanted featured on her accounts, and also how we wanted photography to be incorporated into our wedding day (giving us the space during vows and not always feeling like it was a photo shoot). But all of them were brilliantly and beautifully handled by Katie. We first hired Katie when we heard she did underwater portraits. Our daughters are virtual mermaids, so we loved the idea of photographing them in their "natural habitat". But the photos of them in the depths of our pool were so much better and more beautiful than we ever imagined. After all, we never get to really see them underwater from an underwater perspective. Everyone who sees these pictures is amazed and enchanted. The professional events were large fundraising events: one at a major tech company in San Francisco and the other at a VC firm in Palo Alto. Lots of crowds, lots of VIPs, many of whom were publicity-shy or publicity-demanding. Katie handled it all with grace, charm and skill to produce excellent shots. Much better results than far more expensive event photographers I've worked with. Finally, I had Katie do some more traditional portraits of my daughters. Since they're both on the Autism Spectrum they can be hard to capture on film--reluctant to pose and hard to engage.
