I just want to start this out by saying that Maddie the ASM was VERY helpful with this situation.
I went to the Tractor Supply in Commerce Ga., a 30-min one-way drive from my home. Store number 796 to purchase a wood stove SKU: 148532699. I was paying in cash. That's the reason for the store visit. When I got to the store to place the order for a wood stove, I was told that I had to purchase a gift card so that it could be ordered online, so I purchased the card for the amount of $1119.98. The store manager, Jason, processed the order and I got the receipt and headed home. It would be delivered later that day. While I was driving home almost 10 minutes later, I got an email stating that the order had been canceled due to being out of stock. (It happens when inventory is off, I understand that.) So I turned around to go back to the store to get a refund so that I could go to another store to purchase a stove. When I arrived, the SM had left for the day and the ASM Maddie helped me as she was the person that sold me the gift card to begin with. ASM Maddie contacted the customer service line about the refund and ASM was informed that my only option was an E-gift card that would ONLY be good for store purchases or a check that would take 2 weeks to process. The ASM advised the customer service that I had purchased the card with cash for that specific purchase and would like to have my cash back as that is what I had to purchase the gift card with. The customer service rep then talked to her supervisor, Reginald Kaye, and he refused to change the method of reimbursement. So I had to choose between option A: which is an E-gift card only to be used for purchases at Tractor Supply for $1119.98 or I chose B: to have a check mailed to me, which will take 2 weeks, which because of the holidays will now be closer to 3 weeks. That is not much of a choice for me, and so I chose to have a check mailed to me as I needed the money to purchase a wood stove, which now I am unable to do because Tractor Supply chose not to refund my money and making me wait 2 to 3 weeks for my refund. Then because of the amount of the check the bank will hold the check for 3 to 5 days for the check to clear. Yep not happy with Tractor Supply.
I left the Tractor Supply thinking it had been done. I got home, then I got a text message and an E-mail saying that I had an E-gift card waiting for me. I then called customer service and spoke with Donna (who, by the way, was very rude with her tone and attitude towards me). She then said that I had to go back to the store and have the store request that the E-gift card be changed to a check. So, back to the store, another 30 minute drive. I spoke with Maddie again, who was VERY great about helping me with this fiasco. The ASM checked the E-gift card amount and, yes, it was for the purchase price for the stove, which was $1119.98. The ASM said that they (the store) can't change the E-gift card to a check at the store level as they are not the one to do that. It has to come from corporate. The ASM Maddie then contacted customer service and got the check process started. You would have thought that with me purchasing a gift card using cash for the exact amount, that I would have been able to get my cash payment back, but no, they chose not to do so. They always tell you that when you make a purchase and if you choose to return it for a refund, that the refund can only be made to the same form of payment. So, technically, the refund should have been put back on the original gift card that I purchased, which I happen to have, then I could have refunded the gift card for cash. But apparently that is not how Tractor Supply does business.
I thought of something else while typing this. Tractor Supply has, in my opinion, should be charged with theft by conversion of the amount of $1119.98. I instructed to purchase a $1119.98 in cash gift card for the purchase of the above wood stove (the card purchase was the conversion. Changing legal tender that can be used anywhere to a form of money that can only be used at their store). The theft was by not issuing a refund when the order was canceled by the company's warehouse. Then they told me that my only option was to get an E-gift card for in-store purchases only or wait 2 weeks for a check.
Lesson for the day NEVER PURCHASE A GIFT CARD to make an in store online purchase because they say that is the only way to make that purchase. read more
