Quite possibly the most disappointing restaurant experience I've had while traveling.

There are not too many Mexican restaurants in Chile. I'm happy I found this place! Most staff do…read morenot speak English but they are very welcoming and accommodating. The food was delicious, especially the chicken tacos!

Admittedly, I have not really tried any Mexican cuisine in Chile for nearly a year because I'm…read moreafraid I'll be sorely disappointed. However, I attended an event recently that was catered by Zócalo and the food and flavors were surprisingly delicious (read: spicy). I knew I needed to find the brick-and-mortar restaurant soon. Note for Americans: Don't come here expecting TexMex. There are no starter chips and salsa, fajitas, or queso dip. There is crema, spicy salsas, black beans, and soft and fluffy corn tortillas. We arrived midday on a Sunday and were happy to see that Zócalo, unlike other nearby restaurants, was actually open. Our server was great and brought us multiple pitchers of margaritas, and we shared the parrallada and some chips with guac and black beans. All told, it was less than $60k clp for all four of us. Not a bad way to spend a Sunday! The only downside was that as the restaurant saw more customers, or server was noticeably less attentive and forgetful. We did not get our waters as ordered or to-go salsa. Nonetheless, it was an excellent experience and we'll definitely be back. If you like Mexican cuisine and decor, give Zócalo a chance. The menu has something for every taste and budget.
