I visited the Village Barn after purchasing a home in the area and I cannot get enough. The store…read moreis adorable! It has a mix of antiques and other country home staples. I ordered some chair pads for my kitchen table through the owners. They used a local company, Rhody Rugs, to stock some of their products. I love that local supports local here! The products are reasonably priced! The owners take a holiday during the month of July (Probably to make room for more cool things they will find on holiday!) and when I went there recently, they had a 20% off sale on the entire store! The owners are also very, very kind. They took the time to talk to me to get to know me. I went back to the store to pick up my chair pads and I did not expect them to remember me, but they did! It's so rare and lucky to find a business that cares about customers like this. This is a store I will be going to frequently, as the merchandise will change and turnover and the owners are awesome!

"Come on in, folks - prices are negotiable." That's what the gravelly voice behind a pile of…read moresomething said to us as we walked through the door into Water Street Antiques. I'm not sure where to begin, as I am no antique expert nor am I a thrifter. I am merely in search of a previously-owned dry bar, preferably in good condition with a dash of character. I was so utterly overwhelmed with the sheer volume of items in this shop, it literally took me a few minutes to get my bearings and being rummaging. Lots of furniture - curio cabinets, headboards, end tables and every kind of lamp imaginable. It was all stuffed in so hap-hazardly, had there actually been a bar in there, I don't know that we would have spotted it. I relented and asked The Voice From Somewhere, and alas, there was no dry bar to be had. I can't imagine anything in there is especially precious or considered a real "antique," but stuff there is and loads of it, so if you're in the market for a funky coffee table or a gilded mirror, this is your treasure trove, fo' sho'.

There is friendly, and then there is too friendly - The people who work at Water Street Antiques…read moreare in the later category. I ended up stuck in the store for probably 15 minutes more than I wanted to as the man working there, who seems like he is a friend of the owner droned on and on about the most random things. For most of the conversation I was completely lost, and it took away from me being able to actually look at the goods. This place is jam packed with stuff - They have a large selection of beautiful stained glass windows and 60s and 70s modern furniture. If you're looking for that style, this is the place. The man did say that if there's something in particular you are looking for, that he would know whether they had it or not, and I think that might be the way to approach this place, because finding something on your own seems a little daunting with the sheer volume of the stuff.

A pet peeve of mine is when "thrift/vintage" stores change a million dollars for basic sweatshirts etc but that's not the case here. The pricing is very fair and I was able to get some lovely 80s/90s pieces for my boyfriend and I that you can tell the quality in the original make is there and that these pieces are easily better than what a newer cheaper piece would be AND more affordable than a lot of those. Part of me selfishly wants to keep it a secret so they don't become picked through but they truly deserve their flowers, plus the folks working were super kind.
