Naturally, after such a long wait we became frustrated. However, what impressed me most was how the restaurant handled the situation afterward. The manager came personally to our table, spoke to us very kindly, sincerely apologized, and made sure our food finally arrived. I told him that I understood how exceptionally busy the restaurant was and that I was happy once we finally had our meal. Then, when we were ready to pay, we were told that our entire bill had been taken care of. I actually insisted that I wanted to pay, but they would not accept payment. That gesture was far more than I expected. Mistakes can happen, especially during an extremely busy event weekend. What tells me much more about a business is how they respond when something goes wrong. Smoke on the Water took responsibility and treated us with generosity and respect. I have no complaint about the restaurant. My only food criticism is that the pork ribs were much too salty for my taste. Otherwise, we enjoyed finally sitting down, eating, and enjoying the waterfront atmosphere. Thank you to the manager and staff at Smoke on the Water. The door to the outdoor dining area was also constantly being left open, so we had a cold draft blowing in throughout our meal. There was also live entertainment, which could have been enjoyable, but the speakers were turned up far too loud. It made it difficult to have a normal conversation at the table without practically yelling over the musician. My stepdad is diabetic and specifically asked for unsweetened iced tea, but the staff repeatedly brought him sweet tea instead. This was especially concerning because he clearly explained that he needed unsweetened tea. I completely understand that restaurants get busy, especially on a Friday night, but when we first arrived, there were not even that many people there. We still waited an hour for our food while customers who arrived after us were served first. Being busy should not mean customers are forgotten about, served cold food after an hour, given a burger that was not cooked as requested, or repeatedly given the wrong drink. Between the extremely long wait, cold food and fries, overcooked burger, constant draft, overly loud entertainment, and repeated issues with my stepdad's drink, the entire experience was uncomfortable and disappointing. For the amount of time we waited and the $55 we spent, I expected much better. I went out of my way to drive here from Espyville to try someplace new, but unfortunately, I will not be back. In the future, I would rather frequent The Welcome Inn or The Crooked Paddle.
