Well worth a trip out of the way, especially if you're planning a day in the area!

Saw two other large dogs with owners who could barely control them. Unfortunate because there are a lot of children and people playing near the water area and the playground area. Highly recommend one of my favorite parks of the city. They also have concerts and events like movies here.

The facility is named in memory of Albemarle native Don Montgomery, an NC State University athlete, ex-Major League Baseball player, and decorated military veteran. The new play equipment is geared toward the smallest children, but the main equipment is for ages 5-12. The play equipment is not in the shade, so be careful on the very sunny days. There are multiple picnic shelters that can be reserved in advance for birthday parties, family reunions, or church get togethers. There is a small fenced in dog park, and paved walking paths through the woods. The sign near the parking lot tells you the distances of the different loops. You can tell that the town is really trying to provide a safe, accessible space for people to exercise through this park. I've taken my family a few times, and we have enjoyed our walks and times in the playground.

There are several picnic shelters around the park that includes an eighteen-hole disc golf course. The Park also contains a large section of The Falcon Trail, a 2.72-mile trail, that is mostly natural surface, and is a part of the Carolina Thread Trail. I had a great visit. Gorgeous well maintained trails along the river and into the woods; some of the best forest-bathing I have found in the Charlotte Metro area! Be sure to use the CTT app to not only navigate & get Trail info, but you can log your miles and find other trails, some that even connect! I did 4mi (2mi out and back) and it was a relatively easy hike. Had the trails to myself for most of the way out, which on a Saturday was a pleasant surprise, and the solitude was welcome.
