We ordered a wide selection, and without exception all of the food tonight was super good. It was obvious everything had been freshly prepared and cooked to order. The home cut/cooked chips are the best I've had in a very long time. Food was served hot, and the staff couldn't have been more helpful. Attentive but not intrusive. This was our first visit to The Farmers Arms and I would have no hesitation in returning. A real gem for the local area.

One star lost for the absence of napkins which is a little harsh admittedly, but it's such a basic requirement it's surprising this has been overlooked.

The first night was a Thursday and the restaurant was not very crowded. However on Friday it was very busy and they were turning away people who did not have reservations. On Thursday night, we both had the lamb and it was really good. We almost ordered it again Friday but decided to try something different. On Friday my wife had the Wensleydale beef and I had the venison from the specials board on the wall. We shared a bottle of French red wine that the chef recommended to us. I requested that the chef prepare the venison the way he thinks it should be prepared. We can both honesty say that this was an excellent meal and a great night out. We will return here the next time we visit Leyburn. Reservations are highly recommended.

As you can imagine we were also pretty hungry after pedalling for a whole day, and we weren't carrying our smartest clothes either. First impression of the bar was that it was very cosy, warm and welcoming. We did feel a bit 'downmarket' amongst the rather tweedy, well-heeled types waiting for their meals but we ordered anyway and found the dining room was very pleasant - candle-lit and atmospheric. The food itself was, thankfully, marvellous and the portions were hearty enough for our ravenous appetites! Although it was probably an expensive option, we thought it was just about worth the money because we enjoyed our meals and the surroundings so much. (Then it was back to the tent!)

It's not fancy, but still conveys a feeling of luxury and comfort. If you have an option to, ask for one of the higher floors - they seem a shade nicer than the ones lower down, although everything was very pleasant. The diminished star rating is for the restaurant service. The food was fine, although I wouldn't say outstanding. But the restaurant is severely understaffed. Dishes took a really long time to emerge - at breakfast, we allowed an hour, and were still in danger of missing our transportation (which we told them about) about 45 minutes in. And getting them to bring us the check was a monumental effort that required us to relentlessly buttonhole multiple staff people, and finally camp out at the front desk til someone showed. I understand that it's really hard right now to hire staff, but this was a bit extreme.

The food order was incorrect but quickly changed so shows the good quality service. The sweet potato fries real let down as i am always excited to see them on a menu but this time they where just undercooked, the parmos where average and even though two parmos where ordered only one small garlic sauce provided (although im sure if we asked they would of gave us another) but we didnt finish the full meal to need a second. Mostly local foods, Dales, Lamb and Beef and Trout from the nearby Kilnsey Trout farm. The fish is from the east Coast, (I asked, well you have to don't you!!) They have a magnificent specials board in the main bar area, which may require many visits before you make your final choice. Always a soup of the day, Roast of the Day and plate pie. Vegetarian options are good as well. Cannot complain about anything we ordered, and we have all had different things every time we have been. The steaks are particularly good. The pub is long and there are various tables of differing height and sizes to choose from. Some hidden away and others in the large dining room. Lovely views from the windows and all en suite bedrooms. The toilets are a little bit out of the ark, but very clean. Loads of leaflets on things to see and do around the area. The staff are all locals and are very eager to help if you require any assistance. Parking to the front for a few cars and also a car park around the back for customers only. Tables to the front with umberellas to shield you from the baking hot rain we have had this year. Worth a visit when they have the Scarecrow displays on in August as there are always other things to see. The bar/restaurant was relatively quiet however the girl serving seemed somewhat confused with basic orders and prices. After being served with the incorrect drinks we found our table which was cluttered with glasses and spillages. After the incompetence we had experienced I did not trust our host to take care of such a tricky task as cleaning our table so I politely asked for a cloth I was ignored and it was cleaned. The food, 3 roast beef dinners came to our table in a average time and the standard was very average to poor. The amount of food served seem some what scarce however once we had finished we were served with a nice dish of semi roast potatoes. Why are 20 pubs a week closing down in the UK?
