It's Party Time! at the Tower Bridge Walkways
Qype User (sirilu…)

My company just had its summer party and it was held at the Tower Bridge Walkways - these are the bits which link the North Tower to the South Tower at the very top of the bridge. The party was very well organised and we had some nice entertainment laid on (and free booze. Yay!) but, that's by the by because I'm here to tell you about the venue. As well as the Walkways, which can seat about 120 people for dinner, you can also hire out the North Tower Lounge which holds slightly fewer people and the Bridgemaster's Dining Room which has a capacity for about 20 people, I think. But it's not cheap. I was reliably informed by one of the lift operators that the Walkways cost about £1,000 an hour to hire. During the day the Walkways house The Tower Bridge Exhibition and this was all cleared away, bar a few interesting wall mounted fact sheets, for our party. The space is about 8-10ft wide and about as long as errr Tower Bridge and we had a champagne reception in one walkway (let's call it the west walkway) while our dining area was being prepared in the other. There were about 100 people at our party and, because it's such a narrow space, the round dining tables lined one side of it all the way down. This meant that you could only really see the people who were at the tables next to you while seated and there were lots of instances of people not even realising that other people were there because they couldn't see them. While we were eating the west walkway, where we had had the champagne reception, was being prepared for the entertainment. At this time it was still quite light outside and, of course, you do get some fantastic views from there even though it was quite a dull day, weatherwise. I think they warn you that it can get a bit cold up there but I found it very comfortable, especially in comparison to the whippy weather at ground level, outside. As it got darker they put on some mood lighting which was ideal for seeing the views of London lit up and there was pleanty of room inside for the entertainment which included a dancefloor, a toy car racing track and a couple of drinks tables. I was really impressed with this venue - if only for the views - but the staff were all really friendly and this helped keep us all in a party mood. Remember to take a camera (my pictures were taken on my crappy mobile).

Tower Bridge (and Big Ben) is definitely the most iconic place all over London. Walk over it and enjoy stunning views of Thames & London. If you are lucky, you may even catch the time that opens and see it fully opened ! There is also the Tower Bridge exhibition allowing you access to the upper part of the bridge (with tickets of course). The exhibition itself is not something special (quite small with some historical info about the bridge), but the fun here is a small part of the bridge, which recently opened to public, having a glass floor. It isn't so scary as you'd expect! Go for it and enjoy the cars passing just below your feet!

My friends and I finally went to the glass walkway the other day. The view was so gorgeous. We hung out there for a while and laid down on the glass, loved it.

Going on top of tower bridge!

A friend suggested The Laundry for a catch-up Sunday roast...and as I'm always willing to try new…read moreplaces, I thought it seemed like a decent place(despite my apprehension about only 2 menu items...lamb or veggie). We arrived, and immediately our drink orders were taken...although it did take quite awhile to get the drinks. However, my £9 Bloody Mary was pretty tasty...spicy and strong. As there were only 2 options for food...ordering decisions were made pretty quickly. One thing I found a bit odd though, was if you decide when you order your meal that you want dessert too...it's a £1 cheaper. I'm not really a fan of having to decide if I want dessert before I've even touched my meal. When the food came out, it was very pretty...however it seemed like a pretty small portion for £16. Luckily, I'm a meat eater, so I got a nice hunk of very tender lamb, but my friend who is a veggie, had to make do with a couple mushrooms(although she said they were very good). I also had one, lone brussel sprout on my plate...although that was better than a friend who had 1/2 a brussel sprout. It almost seemed like the food was there to look pretty, rather than to eat....either that or a tasting menu. Regardless, all of the food was really nice...delicious flavors...and to be fair, I wasn't hungry when I finished. A few people in my party got dessert. What looked like a slop of chocolate mess, with green ice cream...ended up being really nice. A chocolate mousse of sorts, with green tea ice cream and bits of pineapple. It looked a bit odd...but tasted good. All-in-all, I would recommend The Laundry. The staff was friendly, the atmosphere was good, and the food tasty. Just be prepared to spend a bit more than you might want...and if you are a vegetarian, maybe eat a snack before you go. Or if you are super picky about food, call beforehand to see what's on the menu, since there are only 2 options. I certainly won't eat here on a regular basis, but a great place for a special occasion.

Went here for their New Years Eve party…read more The ticket price was pretty high for what the venue provided. DJ was okay altho musics were a bit of a snore 90's leftovers - and even then, some of the most generic 90's musics around. I expected more from London. The droves of kids on drugs were just fine with the playlists. They need 2-3 more bars for the venue size. They couldn't really well serve the 1000+ patrons. They also need for bathrooms to support an event of this size. All in all I was happy to be out of London City Centre for New Years - and hey it could have been worse! My main letdown was the music. Free foto booth was a +. At some point people had vomited in the ball pit and they didn't shut it down :/ Seems someone popped the bounce house halfway thru the night. I realize the venue and the promoter using the space for the new years party are separate - this is my experience for NYE only.

A-OK. I don't like places that advertise one cover charge…read morebut then change the rules whenever they want. I think is disrespectful. It's not about the amount, of course I can pay 3 extra pounds, it's just inappropriate to raise the price just because you felt like it. I also don't appreciate separating groups that are in the queue together, or for that matter, leaving people in the cold just to make the place look crowded, cooler, funner. We were in a group of four, they let two friends in and left me and my other friend behind for 45 minutes. We're texting back and forward the two people that were inside and they said the exact words: "I don't know why you are still waiting. They could fit 30 people and a jacuzzi down here". So yeah, thanks for that. So far you would say it was a terrible experience right? Well yes, but the music saved it all. The DJ was great, the drinks were affordable, the toilets were clean and the location is very convenient. If you want to grab something to eat before dancing, just go upstairs to Pizza East and have a nice slice (order one for me too). Beware: this places closes at 2 am, and if I were you I would pick my coat from the wardrobe 10 or 15 minutes before they start to turn on the lights.

Fun, fun, fun! After…read morebeing booted from our table on the dot of 8pm upstairs at Pizza East, we wandered down to Concrete to carry on the party. We were ever so early because besides the bar staff, there were only two other people down there. No matter, we were able to make our own fun. The cocktails here are amazing. After the bar staff dissuaded our friend from ordering Jagerbombs, they persuaded her to order a round of Concrete Flips (Espresso, Amaretto, Kahlua, Egg and Sugar). Yum, yum, yum! Because we never learnt our lesson about mixing spirits, we ordered a delicious round of white peach Bellinis. I highly recommend. By the time we left, the place was rammed and it looked like people were settling in for a heavy night of drinking and dancing. I'm definitely going back!
