A friend suggested The Laundry for a catch-up Sunday roast...and as I'm always willing to try new places, I thought it seemed like a decent place(despite my apprehension about only 2 menu items...lamb or veggie). We arrived, and immediately our drink orders were taken...although it did take quite awhile to get the drinks. However, my £9 Bloody Mary was pretty tasty...spicy and strong. As there were only 2 options for food...ordering decisions were made pretty quickly. One thing I found a bit odd though, was if you decide when you order your meal that you want dessert too...it's a £1 cheaper. I'm not really a fan of having to decide if I want dessert before I've even touched my meal. When the food came out, it was very pretty...however it seemed like a pretty small portion for £16. Luckily, I'm a meat eater, so I got a nice hunk of very tender lamb, but my friend who is a veggie, had to make do with a couple mushrooms(although she said they were very good). I also had one, lone brussel sprout on my plate...although that was better than a friend who had 1/2 a brussel sprout. It almost seemed like the food was there to look pretty, rather than to eat....either that or a tasting menu. Regardless, all of the food was really nice...delicious flavors...and to be fair, I wasn't hungry when I finished. A few people in my party got dessert. What looked like a slop of chocolate mess, with green ice cream...ended up being really nice. A chocolate mousse of sorts, with green tea ice cream and bits of pineapple. It looked a bit odd...but tasted good. All-in-all, I would recommend The Laundry. The staff was friendly, the atmosphere was good, and the food tasty. Just be prepared to spend a bit more than you might want...and if you are a vegetarian, maybe eat a snack before you go. Or if you are super picky about food, call beforehand to see what's on the menu, since there are only 2 options. I certainly won't eat here on a regular basis, but a great place for a special occasion. read more

Went here for their New Years Eve party. The ticket price was pretty high for what the venue provided. DJ was okay altho musics were a bit of a snore 90's leftovers - and even then, some of the most generic 90's musics around. I expected more from London. The droves of kids on drugs were just fine with the playlists. They need 2-3 more bars for the venue size. They couldn't really well serve the 1000+ patrons. They also need for bathrooms to support an event of this size. All in all I was happy to be out of London City Centre for New Years - and hey it could have been worse! My main letdown was the music. Free foto booth was a +. At some point people had vomited in the ball pit and they didn't shut it down :/ Seems someone popped the bounce house halfway thru the night. I realize the venue and the promoter using the space for the new years party are separate - this is my experience for NYE only. read more

#HouseofMask had their opening events at the Laundry. Location is not where I would normally associate it with parties, but its Hackney. The venue is spacious, with expose columns and ceiling, there is a stage and long bar. It has an underground, urban, concrete feel, entrance is wide, and deep leading down to the venue, bathroom is spacious and modern, add smoke effects and it makes a good venue to host a party. read more

I feel a fraud as I write this as I didn't even get as far as ordering anything, however the fact we walked out prior to even sitting down because of the attitudes of the staff made me want to share the experience we had. It's 11am on a weekday- pretty much the only clientele in this area at this time are hipsters 'working from home' or mums with prams. I am the latter and last Tuesday morning there were 6 of us looking for a spacious place for the prams so we could do what we do best- drink coffee and eat cake. Upon arrival at The Laundry we were impressed - large spacious venue with tables and chairs a go go- the place was empty, only about 4 people in there. We went to sit at 2 tables and moved a couple of chairs in order to move the tables together so we could sit together. A female member of staff came over and told us not to do this- she suggested we park the buggies by the window in the hot sunshine and then sit around the 2 tables separately. We explained the babies are too small to leave in the prams (especially in the sunshine- all aged between 8 weeks and 6 months) and that we need them closer- the staff member snorted a nervous giggle and stood her ground, by the tables saying we could not move them together. An awkward silence ensued followed by us feeling we had no choice but to leave. It is beyond me why they didn't want us there- it's not like the babies are toddlers wreaking havoc, we'd have spent good money here- none of us will be going back. I love the place, I don't have wifi at home so I come here quite often. Coffee is good, is spacious, the staff is kind and quick and I love the music selection ! spending half of the time shazaming new songs. Had lunch once or twice and never been disappointed ! well , I love the place and I definetely reccomend it ! read more

Ben Spalding has made a huge difference to the food here. Sunday roast lamb might be the best I've had. Servings are a tad small, which I don't mind but can see it phase people. If you have kids the steps are a winner for them at the end. read more

The worst security I have ever experienced in 10 years of going out to clubs and gigs. From the moment I tried to walk into the venue and got forcibly shoved IN I knew it was going to be pretty bad but it just got worse from there. Pretty much every time I saw a security guard they were bullying or pushing around someone. Male or female, the alleged infraction minor or major, they clamped down on people with the same level of violence. Pushing people, physically restraining them, grabbing people from behind, and, in the case of one young lady, twisting her arms behind her back and then chasing her off when she got upset and started retaliating (I saw several people recording that incident). This all culminated with the headliner walking off when security tried to throw out his girlfriend(!) Her crime? Trying to get on the stage to see him. They were subsequently both thrown out the moment he stopped playing. Bouncers are meant to be there to look after your safety and help you. Who do you turn to when they're the ones causing trouble and making you feel unsafe? Other than that the drinks were overpriced (4.50 for a 33cl bottle!!!), and despite the ticket price being quite high (20.00 on the door, 15.00 in advance) The Laundry seemed to offer little more than an unfurnished concrete box with a soundsystem in it by way of an actual venue. The bar was also selling glass bottles, which seems like a stupid idea given this fact. The smoking area was poorly managed with queues of up to 15 mins despite the fact that it was just a fenced off area that could have been expanded with no more than 2 mins effort. All in all, this is absolutely atrocious. If I knew of a standards agency to report this to I would. As it is I can only boycott the venue and encourage others to do the same. They do not deserve custom. read more
