Despite our best attempt to stay warm, we froze our butts off waiting for the gun to go off. As with other Revel races, MC is a fast downhill course. The 1H is steeper than the 2H. There are a few small climbs. The last 5 or so miles will feel flat but a small climb at mile 23 felt like Mt Everest. There's no shade at all along the entire course so be prepared, expecially if the day will be warm. Course was well supported and the finish area includes a beer garden and the usual post race nutrients. The expo was held at the convention smaller. It's small. Will take you a few minutes to get through if you don't wish to linger. The transportation options include a pickup at the Tuscany Hotel, near the strip (for a fee). To keep things simple, that's where we stayed. It's a small hotel and easy to get in and out. If you don't care about gaming and other features of large casinos, the Tuscany is a good option. Overall Mt Charleston is a good Spring race to try to BQ. However, Big Bear is still my fav.

At all REVEL races, there's a pair of throwaway gloves and mylar blanket in everyone's goodie/gear check bag. It's the little details right? The wait at the start line can get quite cold as most years, there will still be snow on the ground. For this year, they even brought out heat lamps to help runners stay warm. For the most part, the course is a nice gentle downhill the entire way. There's a late climb around mile 24, so make sure to save a little bit of energy. They have beautiful medals and lots of post race goodies waiting for each runner at the finish line. Race photos are complimentary for all REVEL races!

Held in early December I visited this event in 2007 as a spectator to cheer on a friend who was…read morerunning in her first half marathon. I ran in the full marathon in 2005 when it was reintroduced with its current course which runs up Las Vegas Boulevard or "the Strip" and runs through Fremont Street and all of its older casino hotels and the Fremont Street Experience. The race starts and ends at the beautiful Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino, but from the moment you are let off from the early morning monorail service it is a confusing maze through the Mandalay Bay convention area just to get to the race assembly area. The signs are not very noticeable and very confusing, and basically you'll end up following a crowd just hoping to end up in the correct location. Once you arrive outside in the bitter cold darkness you are left wondering where to drop off your sweats and which direction to go to get to the start line. It seems only the actual start line is well lit so you'll have to head in that direction in anticipation of the 6 AM start. The actual start of the race is magnificent by marathon standards as the sky is lit up with a dramatic, lengthy fireworks show. Thousands of spectators gather in the Mandalay Bay parking lot and along the Las Vegas Strip to cheer on your every step. The first 5 and a half miles are run along the Strip and miles 5.5 to roughly 6.8 takes you through the Fremont Street Experience. As you exit the Fremont Street Experience you'll come across a timing mat at 7 miles, and unbeknownst to the participant that will be the last time you'll see civilization as the next 16.5 miles are run through desert communities and residential areas where you'll see only a handful of friendly neighbors willing to come out of their warm homes to encourage you to keep running. The general feeling I got was that most residents were pretty irate with having thousands of runners interrupt their Sunday mornings by tossing trash on their streets and forcing them to wait in traffic. At 23.5 miles you'll reach Frank Sinatra Drive. Hopefully by this time the temperatures will have warmed a bit as the tall Mandalay Bay Resort signage becomes visible telling you the finish line is near. Crowd support is pretty spotty until you get back to the 26 mile mark. In 2005 we started the race in low 40 F temperatures and ended the race in warm mid 70 F temperatures. With the exception of the first 7 miles the overall course is not very scenic and actually quite boring. My suggestion would be to just skip the full marathon and participate in the half marathon instead as that race goes out along the Las Vegas Strip, turns around at the Fremont Street Experience and returns to the finish line via roads that run parallel to the Strip. The course support in terms of fluid replacement (water & Gatorade) is exceptional with stations at nearly every mile, and there is plenty of medical support and law enforcement along the course. The finishers' medal in 2005 was quite unique as the center of the medal actually spun on a center axis. Real Las Vegas showgirls and Elvis impersonators stand ready at the finish area and at the race expo to pose with you for a unique Vegas-only photo. Will I return to run in this event? Probably not for the full marathon, but I'll definitely be back to participate in the half marathon.

I've been meaning to write a review for this marathon for awhile, but now as i'm ready to taper for…read morethe chicago marathon in October, it reminds me of my experience with this race last year. I ran the half, and was pretty nervous as my flight was delayed so i didn't get into vegas until waaaaay late friday night...also i started to doubt my training and wondered if i had done enough (normal pre-race jitters i think). Then, once i landed in vegas and got to my parents' house, i started to relax and realized i'd be fine. The race was actually nice and cold (40's at the start, just perfect). There was a fireworks display to start as well as a bunch of running elvis impersonators ...i caught up with the karaoke machine and got to singalong with them, how many races can you say you did that? Blue man group was around mile 3.5, so that was cool. Also, since the race starts at 6am you get a strange mix of fans watching and people just getting out of the clubs. I must say, running past Pure and Jet I was very distracted...so many nice looking ladies =) Then once you pass the strip into the older parts of vegas you get to some strip clubs, where drunken frat packs stumble out of the clubs and happen onto the race and cheer you on ("Run Forrest Run! i must've heard 5 times, quite clever). The race was pretty boring after passing downtown vegas, as we run Frank Sinatra Dr. past all the hotel parking garages for the last part...i think the crowd support is needed the most back here, so if you come out to watch...head to the back of the hotels. I saw my parents at harrah's holding up signs cheering me on around mile 3, so once i saw them i knew i'd be ok =). Overall the race was fine, and i'm planning on doing the half again this year. There is also an after party at Tao where all the runners can get together and talk about their blackened toenails and sore muscles. I think the best part, though, is after the race you are ready to eat a house and there are so many buffets to choose from...i chose the paris buffet brunch and then in-n-out last year (best decision i made, i ate two double-double meals). I think this race will get bigger as it ages.

This is the second time that I've done the PJ 5k and 1-Mile Walk. It is so much fun!…read more November 14 at 4:30 P.M was the race day and time. You could also do the packet pick-up on Friday, November 13th at the GameWorks, which is what my family did. There is a pre-show prior to the race when pre-registration packet pickup starts at 3:00 P.M. At this year's event, there were local mascots and the UNLV cheerleaders. The Race is held yearly at the Motor Speedway. There was several thousands of participants this year. You can register for the race online at the Speedway Charities website. All participants receive a Race Bib and light snacks and beverages. Everyone receives a finisher's medal when they cross the Finish Line! There are raffle prizes as well. All donations will support local children with educational, social, medical and financial needs to help them lead better lives. If you have done the drive thru of the glittering lights, running through the glittering lights is a completely different experience. My daughter and I ended up stopping multiple times to take pictures through-out the race. There are several water stations during the run, pretty much at every mile. The view of Las Vegas is phenomenal and the glittering lights are stunning!

This year they had packet pickup at Gameworks in Town Square which was SO MUCH EASIER considering I live in Henderson. I hope they do the packet pickup at another central location again (I won't complain if it's Gameworks again). Getting the packet early meant I could just show up at the race close to the start time. And I learned my lesson last year - I did not arrive too early. I also made sure not to overdress. All I had was a long sleeve shirt on and that was fine. It is cold in the beginning, but once you get moving you're glad you don't have that extra bulk. Look forward to doing this again next year. Just Run offers a 10 K, 5 K and a 1-mile walk/run. There is also a virtual run. I did participate in the Halloween (Hallowrock) and will be participating in the Rockin Reindeer race in a few weeks. I ended up leaving my residence around 7:20 since Floyd Lamb Park is only a few minutes away from my residence. There were a lot of runners. The race was sold out. Parking was a little difficult. The area near Group Area 5 was completely full. A lot of vehicles had to backup and park near the entrance to Floyd Lamb Park. Luckily, we were able to make it to the start of the race right at 8:00 A.M. The race didn't start until 8:10 A.M. The 10k runners went first. The overall route doesn't have much elevation gain which is great! Unfortunately, the map layout was strange this year. For the 5k, the route had us start from the start line, then cross over from where the additional 5k and 10k runners were, and then had to loop around. When I spoke with other 5k runners on the run, it felt like the course was a lot longer than just a 5k. When I had got to the 2 mile sign, my Garmin had 3.3 miles on it. By the time the race was finished, I had about 4.4 miles on my Garmin. Other runners had also mentioned for the 5k running a lot longer than normal at 5k. JusRun sent out an email addressing the mistaken course change. and had updated the timing to accommodate all of the extra miles for the 5k and 10k runners. I was super sore afterwards, but luckily it was a beautiful day for a run. A medal, cupcake, and water was provided after the race.

It was an out back course. With that said for a city run it was nice that I did not have to cross any streets or worry about cars. I haven't had the best of luck with nationwide 5Ks advertised on Facebook- see other reviews for…read morethe Wine Run, Glow Run, etc. Themed runs are fun but often disorganized and "family-friendly," which is code for saying that participants lack common courtesy on the trail. That said, I signed up anyway with a Groupon that made it pretty cheap, and the event was more organized than I'd expected. Held at Sunset Park, the route utilized the dusty desert area alongside the Eastern entrance and had multiple water stations. Organizers were friendly and in costume. Event included "blaster cuffs" in lieu of the usual t-shirt, as well as a finishers medal, though the event was untimed. Would I do this again? Probably, moreso if it's discounted again.

This event is well organized and we picked up our run packages with Santa Suits and more during the week before the event day without a hitch. We had a great time, beautiful weather, and it was for a great cause, The Opportunity Village". There was a sea of Santa's both young and old with pets and without. We were worried about parking, but had no problem parking in a garage near Freemont Street and 4th, and then walking over to the Las Vegas Event Center for the pre-race activities that included performances by The Spice Girls, Chippendales, Blue Man Group and more. We had a fun time and it was perfect weather to walk or run the 1 mile or 5K. Overall, we had a great and fun time with lots of otherSanta's, and our only regret is we didn't participate years before.

The 2020 event was very well organized.. Starting Line: They play upbeat music and the emcee is high energy to keep you hype until you're released on the course. They were throwing out free tshirts in the corral to people who were dancing away. lol The group funnels into the starting area and they release the participants in waves so the color stations don't get congested. Smart Color Stations: You get a white color run shirt to wear on race day. you run through the 4 color stations where the volunteers douse you with colored powder. Blue, yellow, green and Pink were the colors this race. The powder kind of smells like cotton candy to me but please don't try eating it. FYI. the powder washed off easily in the wash. =) Bonus Foam Station: There's a foam station you run through that was a blast. Your shoes get kinda soggy but you can get some cool pic opps in there for sure. Finish Line: The energy continues as a DJ has everyone dancing and they're throwing more powder out into the crowd for a fun dance floor. There's more props for more social media moments, a Color Run store to buy more gear and vendors setup with booths for samples. Overall, this is a great run to do while drinking with your friends on the course. Think of it as a moving colorful party on a Saturday morning. The race crew vibe is energetic, happy and so are the runners. See you at the next one! =)

The Glo Run was held Downtown on October 14th and took place in the evening. I believe the race started at 8PM. Participants were dressed for the part - tutus, colorful wigs, and creative/skimpy attire were all the rage. The pre-party was held at the Commonwealth. Background music consisted of, you guessed it, EDM! The finish line featured a stage with a DJ. Giant beach balls were being tossed around in the crowd and confetti bursts were being launched. I truly had a lot of fun. I'm hoping the Glo Run will happen in 2015 because I would love to participate again. I paid around $35 for registration, which included a tshirt. Good music, positive vibe, lots of lights/ neon, happy people, rainbows, tutus, fairy wings, balloons, wigs, I got a bunch of freebies: glow-in-the-dark bands, Glow Run t-shirt, snacks, etc. I think I paid $35 or $45 for early registration with a student discount. I got to burn calories, have a good time and support AFAN. There were runners of different ages. Some ran with their costumed babies on a stroller. Little girls passing me. LOL. All had fun. The weather tonight was just right. It wasn't hot out. They had water stations, I'd like to say, at every mile. Before I knew it, I've already completed the 7k. I'd do this again!
