The Glo Run was held Downtown on October 14th and took place in the evening. I believe the race started at 8PM. Participants were dressed for the part - tutus, colorful wigs, and creative/skimpy attire were all the rage. The pre-party was held at the Commonwealth. Background music consisted of, you guessed it, EDM! The finish line featured a stage with a DJ. Giant beach balls were being tossed around in the crowd and confetti bursts were being launched. I truly had a lot of fun. I'm hoping the Glo Run will happen in 2015 because I would love to participate again. I paid around $35 for registration, which included a tshirt. Early registration that starts way in advance starts at $25. YELP 100 CHALLENGE 2015: #36

Good music, positive vibe, lots of lights/ neon, happy people, rainbows, tutus, fairy wings, balloons, wigs, I got a bunch of freebies: glow-in-the-dark bands, Glow Run t-shirt, snacks, etc. I think I paid $35 or $45 for early registration with a student discount. I got to burn calories, have a good time and support AFAN. There were runners of different ages. Some ran with their costumed babies on a stroller. Little girls passing me. LOL. All had fun. The weather tonight was just right. It wasn't hot out. They had water stations, I'd like to say, at every mile. Before I knew it, I've already completed the 7k. I'd do this again!

This is a comedy, not an athletic event. I don't even know where to start, but suffice it to say…read morethat after nearly 50 fun runs and 5Ks, this was the worst organized one I've ever been a part of. For starters, there was no reminder email or any info about the day other than what you got when you registered- their website lists the price as $70, and the event seemed like they spent about that much on the entire day. They have a $30 off discount code on their site, and you can get it even cheaper through Groupon. But $20 isn't worth the headache of showing up an hour early, waiting 50 minutes to check in, then waiting an additional half hour plus for them to start late. The course wasn't 5K, even if you did the loop twice, and the color stations on the route were pathetic- one person with a couple packets of powder, occasionally tossing it in the air. There were all of 10 people involved with this event and it's clear they've never been to any other running events to know how to organize them, nor have they read any reviews to get a clue about where to improve. Apparently they missed the part where you're supposed to get the (cheap metal dog-tag style) "finishers medal" at the END of the run instead of with your packet pickup. Oh, and the start/finish line banner was strung up on rope between a tree and a light post. Like I said, it was a comedy. Hilarious! So much so that Groupon refunded my purchase price within 24 hours.

It's not that I didn't have fun, because I did, but the lack of organization at this event was…read moreatrocious. Price of registration on active.com was $70, but there was a Groupon available for $29. Skip to day of the race at Craig Ranch Regional Park - signage was nonexistent, leaving participants scrambling about the park trying to find the 5kColorFest starting point. I started to believe I had the location wrong. With the help of a local security guard, I was finally able to find the race festivities. There were no signs stating "Start Line" or "Pick-Up/Registration" here, adding to the confusion. Once I finally found the line, it was stretched out a mile long. The line barely moved and to the chagrin of about 50 people still waiting in line, it was announced the race would start without us. A volunteer said there would be a second wave, but it seems like most people just took off running once they got a bib, shirt, and a color packet. By he time I reached the front of the line, there was only Large and XL shirts left. Boooo. What's worse is that volunteers were handing out packets without qualm or checking if people had registered. There were no alphabetized folders organized by name. Hypothetically I could have been unregistered and walked in for free! The course wasn't marked in any way. My friend and I just followed the crowd. There was only 1 volunteer at each color station for the hundreds of people that ran this race. I felt really bad for them, especially since on the second lap you could tell the volunteers were clearly exhausted. At the finish line (there technically wasn't an established finish line), I only spotted one volunteer handing out water bottles. Here's the kicker - on the website and the Groupon it says registration included a finisher's medal, which we never seen nor received. Worth a Return Visit? Color runs are a dime a dozen - there are plenty of more organized ones to choose from. According to the website, 100% of the event proceeds go towards Alzheimer's. I'm not sure how this is viable when they still have to buy shirts and everything else, but it definitely explains why the event was undermanned and bare-boned. YELP 100 CHALLENGE 2015: #250

The 2020 event was very well organized.. Starting Line: They play upbeat music and the emcee is high energy to keep you hype until you're released on the course. They were throwing out free tshirts in the corral to people who were dancing away. lol The group funnels into the starting area and they release the participants in waves so the color stations don't get congested. Smart Color Stations: You get a white color run shirt to wear on race day. you run through the 4 color stations where the volunteers douse you with colored powder. Blue, yellow, green and Pink were the colors this race. The powder kind of smells like cotton candy to me but please don't try eating it. FYI. the powder washed off easily in the wash. =) Bonus Foam Station: There's a foam station you run through that was a blast. Your shoes get kinda soggy but you can get some cool pic opps in there for sure. Finish Line: The energy continues as a DJ has everyone dancing and they're throwing more powder out into the crowd for a fun dance floor. There's more props for more social media moments, a Color Run store to buy more gear and vendors setup with booths for samples. Overall, this is a great run to do while drinking with your friends on the course. Think of it as a moving colorful party on a Saturday morning. The race crew vibe is energetic, happy and so are the runners. See you at the next one! =)

The 2014 packet included a t-shirt, temporary tattoo, sweatband, bag, and a packet of color to use as you saw fit. BTW it was a lot cheaper last year ($25). The course was held in Downtown Fremont and drew a huge amount of people. They had to release runners in waves every 5 minutes or so. Needless to day, I didn't start the race on time because I was stuck among the crowds for 20+ minutes. There were points during the race where volunteers powdered you with color. The color is basically dyed cornstarch, so it's safe, although you're likely to have colorful boogers for the next few days!! Color Runs have become massively popular in the 5k fun run arena. Yes, they're pretty fun but after doing 5+ different variations on Color Runs they start to get a little old. PRO TIP: This a run for casual runners. Also, tutus are a hit here. This year's race, 2025, was at Fremont Street in downtown Las Vegas. It was on Sunday, September 28 with race start time at 8:00 A.M! I ended up parking at a parking lot next to the Neonopolis parking garage, $5.00 for two hours. From there, I walked over to the start line for the race. There was pre-race activities prior to the run. Participants can choose between a 5k run or a 1-mile walk/run option. Registration fees are typically between $35.00 and $50.00 depending on the registration type and the time you register. Each registered runner receives a tech shirt and a finisher's medal. There are also awards in multiple categories too! The event includes music, food, and a Las Vegas community spirit! This race has grown over the years and it's amazing how it brings the Las Vegas community together. While I was running, so many first responders were running alongside the community. Police officers, firefighters, and other teams took part in the race. It was inspiring. After the race, snacks were provided like bananas, oranges, granola bars and water. Jus Run, one of my favorite race management companies, quickly organized this 5K so that runners could support in their own way- running together or virtually, with many volunteering their time for packet pickup and day-of organization, and proceeds going to the Vegas Victims fund. The run quickly sold out and moved to a different venue to accommodate at Craig Ranch Park. There were over 2500 participants for the event and $60K was raised. The event itself ran pretty smoothly, with extra space opened for parking and officers guiding traffic. Due to traffic, the event started a bit late. Route was clearly marked with 2 aid stations and plenty of cheering folks along the way. Despite the somber reason that brought us together, it was in true Vegas spirit that the community turned out to support one another.

I picked up my packet the same day of the race with ease and didn't even have to wait in a line! The Big Game 5k drew a decent sized crowd and was set to start at 8:15AM. The race actually started closer to 8AM, and I think this reflects some poor organization skills (the 10k was set to start at 8, but I think due to poor communication everyone just took off at the earlier starting time). As are all races held in DTLV, the course was paved and flat = easy peasy. The Big Game website really promoted an after party at Goldspike, but this event really never came to fruition. I was one of the first to show up at Goldspike and the bartenders were unaware of any specials being offered to runners. After a long while, runners finally started to show up but the Goldspike event was just lackluster. All runners got a football finisher's medal. Overall, the Big Game 5k is not among my favorite runs but I would participate in this event again if there was a Groupon deal for it. Hopefully next years event is better organized! Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the CJ Cup was moved from South Korea to the United States…read moreand held at Shadow Creek Golf Course in North Las Vegas. It wrapped up this past Sunday with Jason Kokrak winning his first-ever PGA Tour event. Since its inception in 2017, the Club at Nine Bridges on Jeju Island has been home to the CJ Cup with big names Justin Thomas (2017, 2019) and Brooks Koepka (2018) as the cup's first champions. Relative unknown Kokrak bucked that trend by beating Xander Schauffele, who I was rooting for, by two strokes. Kokrak finished at -20 (70, 66, 68, 64 | 268) and Schauffele -18 (66, 64, 74, 66 | 270). Aside from being moved to the States, this tournament was interesting for a couple reasons: (1) It showcased Shadow Creek, an amazing public* course that had never held a PGA Tour event before. (2) As MGM Resorts International owns the course, BetMGM was all over Golf Channel's TV coverage of the event which included live odds throughout the tournament. *A round at Shadow Creek, like Pebble Beach and other high-end courses, requires a hotel stay; in this case, at a qualifying MGM property. Also, according to Golf Digest, a tee time will set you back $600: https://www.golfdigest.com/story/shadow-creek-how-to-play-the-exclusive-venue-where-tiger-woods-and-phil-mickelson-will-play-the-match. Shadow Creek was designed by the famed Tom Fazio and opened in 1990 as Steve Wynn's personal private course. It's a true oasis in the Nevada desert and anything but natural - just take a look at the Google Earth satellite view: https://www.google.com/maps/place/Shadow+Creek+Golf+Course/@36.2579796,-115.1162291,3567m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m5!3m4!1s0x0:0xf15ab69d1f0ef012!8m2!3d36.2584295!4d-115.1073027. Shadow Creek looked as finely manicured as Augusta. Rory McIlroy said the course's greens were the best he's ever putted on. High praise. It was a beauty to look at. The course's many (unnatural) trees cast long shadows in the mid-to-late-October sun. The only other time Shadow Creek was featured on TV was on Black Friday 2018 for The Match: Tiger vs. Phil (at first, pay-per-view, but eventually distributed for free due to technical difficulties). The CJ Cup's title sponsor is the CJ Group, a Korean conglomerate that owns brands recognizable in America like Bibigo (packaged food) and Tous Les Jours (bakery chain). K-pop fans are probably familiar with Mnet (K-pop TV channel) and the Stone Music Entertainment label, both of which are ultimately owned by the CJ Group. Korak's 2020 CJ Cup championship trophy looks like a modern stone tablet with Korean inscribed vertically. Wednesday before the event, MGM Resorts sponsored a nine-hole charity match between Kevin Na and Byeong-hun (Ben) An (both of Korean descent) vs. two-time Masters champion Bubba Watson and Rickie Fowler. Watson and Fowler won, but not before Na could snap a selfie before the foursome left the par-3 17th's tee box: https://www.instagram.com/p/CGWI9OvA24F/. In that moment, Na reminded me of me. :)
