The lack of helpful comparative information on elderly care resources out there is frustrating, so I'm hoping to build up a list of excellent places I would recommend for people who will be looking for these services. Arden Court would be at the top of my list for my experience with how deeply kind and thoughtful these folks were to my family member and to my family. Like every other memory care place, these services are not inexpensive, but if you can afford the $6900/month, you will be comforted to know that the care they provide is beyond amazing.

I taught yoga at two of their facilities from November - March and was SHOCKED. In the short time that I was there, I witnessed a number of staff changes. A putrid odor of urine, feces, and bleach (so much so that I had difficulty breathing). Patients left out alone in the middle of the hallways having panic attacks. Some of the staff that I interacted with were extremely rude, not just to me, but to the patients as well. Telling them to "shut up." After sharing my experience with a few people, I have also heard other's horror stories about their negative experiences with Apple Rehab (Like staff refusing to change patients after they wet themselves). I also have a friend who works there and has shared with me how cheap and understaffed they are. I want everyone to be aware of what kind of care is provided. I do not want to blame all the staff because some of them are good and actually do care, but it seems that the people at the top do not have the best character. Apple Rehab hired me to teach Chair Yoga and has not paid me a dime. The staff kept telling me that it takes a while for them to process my invoice, but after 4 months of no pay it looks like they just took complete advantage of me. The residents there are so sweet and I worry for them.

Her last day of being there I requested a measure of additional comfort which required an additional piece of equipment. It would have been easy to just say, "we'll try". I mean really, what more could you ask for? But, these nurses made it happen within the hour and it really made a difference in the patient's comfort. All the care I have experienced at Avon HC has been wonderful an I would recommend it this place to anyone.

This attendant shortened his life hands down.....be careful where you put your love ones. Being 86 this year, living alone with a bum foot from a previous severe case of shingles, she took a bad fall in June '16. Resulting in a fracture left humous (above the elbow). The tough old bird endured 4 days in the hospital and corrective surgery. Now with 2 limbs down, she (& the family) were faced with recovery care. Upon being discharged from the hospital she was placed in a recovery unit in West Hartford due to a lack of availability elsewhere. This facility at best was a nightmare. The family quickly jumped on board and found an opening at Caleb Hitchcock Health Care Center, 2 days later. Oh my! What a difference. Caleb was quickly coined, The Country Club for Care. The facility is up-to-date, well managed, and not lacking any amenities for elderly post-operative rehabilitation; Physical Therapy (PT) and Occupational Therapy (OT). Private rooms with bathrooms and a home like appeal. The public areas are designed to allow residents plenty of activities at every level of mobile ability and skill level. PT & OT were conveniently located in each unit and very well equipped. The staff warm, skilled, and open to any needs of the resident. Believe me, my Mutter-Schwiegersohn had plenty of unique needs and requests while there. Some very challenging, while others very humorous, but the staff (& family) never failed to meet her needs. After weeks of rehabilitation and most importantly occupational therapy, Oma successfully graduated her care. She was discharged this past week (Sept. '16), but not without Caleb follow-up and home evaluation. She came home with a walking device and other home modification were made for her to remain as safe as possible. Fingers crossed. After getting the prescription for physical therapy at UConn, I spent a bit of time trying to find a place that would be able to take me for physical therapy quickly. I called around and finally was told by a receptionist at another HHRN location that the Bloomfield location relatively less busy, so I gave them a call, and they had an opening a week out. Whew. After the first visit, it was easy to schedule convenient sessions. I ultimately had six sessions with Brian over the course of 3 weeks. Brian has a pretty chill demeanor and was helpful in my understanding of why I was feeling the discomfort I did. I appreciated that deeper understanding and ultimately felt better - mentally and physically - through my sessions here. I was ultimately able to complete my race practically pain free, and it would not have been possible without Brian's instruction and expertise.
