They don't open Sun-Tues so as you can imagine, Wednesday is pretty busy. We found an 'open mic' evening with poetry and music - of very varying quality, it must be said! But a great hipster vibe that brings some evening life to this otherwise pretty dead of an evening town.

Just barely topping(pun intended) Little Caesars who sits at number 2. I'm joking... Little Caesars is terrible. The only reason I eat Little Caesars pizza is because it's hot and ready, $5 and I'm too hungry to wait for Pizza Hut after work. Best pizza ever is extremely high praise, and it's located in a small-ish town at the top of the South Island of New Zealand. It's called dangerous kitchen and I felt dangerous going inside. It was empty, on a weekend! But me and my friends filled the place up. I tried 5 different types of pizzas and I'm convinced there isn't a bad one on the menu! Our selections in order of likeability: smoked salmon, seafood, margherita, dangerous, and henny penny. You can see the menu for details of what's inside. I took a bite of that salmon pizza, I wanted to cry. But I was at a table full of my friends so I had to stay strong. It was like I was tasting food again for the first time. Perfectly baked. Topping ratio was perfect. This pizza was so good on my way back to home me and the friends riding in my car stopped again to take 2 pizzas home LOL. Dangerous kitchen huh?? This pizza must have drugs in it. I'm addicted. If it wasn't an hour and a half drive I would go every weekend! They do more than just pizza, such as brunch items and a small lunch/dinner menu but c'mon.. You go here to eat pizza! They have a bar and live music at night, fun little vibe. Staff is super friendly, they saved a table for us while the pizza cooked so we could walk around main street. Parking on the street. You can call ahead for takeout. Love this place!! I've only given 6 stars a few times but this is that place.

Beers are served in 200, 400, and 500mL formats with some strong IPA's, DIPA's, and even a robust stout on tap. Blenheim is quite near to Wellington therefore you'll eye a good number of tap handles occupied by breweries from the area. Food is of the German-fare, but they also have pizza and burgers. The Pork Knuckle served over a hefty bed of mashed potatoes seemed quite revered which the guy gluttonized over since it was just about the heartiest pork knuckle meal I've ever laid mine eyes on. Like woah! I will never forget it! I, on the other hand, went with another favorite in the form of the Fish and Chips (19.5 NZD). Theirs is made with a wheat beer battered Hoki fish, tartare sauce a salad, and requisite chips on the side. Batter was a little cakey, but with the best crunch. The salad was appreciated to bite through this heavy meal while helping the guy some with his massive slab of pork. The fun and laid back atmosphere of this cavernous beer garden with outdoor patio served as a great night cap though it is your typical pub experience in the end with heavy, greasy food and strong beers.

Excellent menu for breakfast and lunch (my boys LOVED the Biscoff French Toast, I enjoyed the eggs Benedict on sour dough and excellent coffee). They are family-owned and operated, the love and attention put into the natural, wooded space quite apparent. Menu items are sourced locally so they are as fresh as possible. I had the Lamb Burger with their "world famous" slow roasted lamb patty, topped with a fresh picked salad, mint jelly, and tomato salsa. The lamb burger patty was actually shredded meat -- rather than minced -- and packed into a puck. It was a little tough to tear the meat, a fork coming in handy to eventually deconstruct the burger. The salad portion was extraordinary as well, requiring the use of the fork to pick away at it before crafting the burger/ sandwich. Overall though, it was ultra yummy, scrumptious burger, the mint jelly combo enhancing the enjoyability greatly. It left me feeling satiated though not overly bloated. The freshness was prominent indeed. Beers were flowing and while they claim to host a keg of nearby Hop Federation, the single offering was somewhat basic (a pilsener). I actually opted for a local Pinot Noir, a lovely pairing with the Lamb Burger. The TOAD Hall is an easy option while in Motueka and Tasman area!

The other members of our family enjoyed their dishes as well - the gurnard fish special, the salmon special, and the surf and turf with salmon instead of steak (the shrimp was especially tasty!). We also liked the local apple cider they had on tap, as well as the bottled berry cider, ginger beer, and the Boundary Bay golden ale on tap. The service was okay. Our waiter didn't know the answers to several of our questions and kept having to go back and ask his coworkers. The food and drinks came out reasonably promptly. It was disappointing that they didn't come by to clear our dishes promptly and didn't ask if we wanted dessert - we had to ask for it ourselves. The atmosphere was pleasant - the penguin decor and art work for sale on the walls was lovely. The Christmas decor was very nice as well. Overall, a good spot for food and drinks in Pohara!

The shrimp were good (about what you'd expect for fried goodness!). The pizza was good, but very rich. I could only eat one piece, and we ended up giving the rest away because it was so rich. Not bad, just a whole lot of dense flavor. The service was quick enough for us to get to where we needed to be in time.
