The name may not be inspiring but what is within Toad Hall was freshly made food and their own brewery offering refreshing suds. If you are making the drive from Nelson to Kaiteriteri or beyond, I would recommend stopping by this place for lunch or a bite. The patio seating outside is a mix of covered and uncovered areas. It's very charming and relaxing atmosphere. There's a friendly dog that roams the grounds to make sure everyone is having a great time. We got their self-proclaimed "world-famous in Mouteka" seafood chowder and the peperonata pasta to share. The seafood chowder did not disappoint as there was huge chunks of seafood swimming in the cream sauce. It was very good and lived up to the billing. The peperonata pasta was a really pleasant surprise with a very deep and rich tomato sauce that has been slowly simmered. It was very hearty but not heavy. There was a little bit of chatter in the air from locals and other tourists alike just taking in the afternoon. Overall, this was a lovely place to have lunch!

Amazing lunch options. Homemade parpadelle noodle dish was to die for. Scallop salad great! And the very best thing of all was the roasted veggie side salad. I'm generally a fan of all roasted veggie side salads, but this one was far and above better than any I've ever had. Excellent quality food in a very pleasant atmosphere. Super nice outdoor seating.they also sell fresh produce and some other grocery items. Iced coffee and fruit smoothies looked amazing. I would give them five stars in a minute if they offered more whole-grain options.

Absolutely delicious food and such a great atmosphere - a cool little store and restaurant with a wide variety of food options and gifts.

Precinct's mission is "bringing high quality dining to Motueka using fresh local produce, the region's great wines and artisan products". On our first visit I can pretty much say the've nailed nailed that right out of the box. We were in 'Mot', as the locals call it for a family Christmas and my partner Ryan's family had heard good things about the place but not been yet. On our last full day Ryan and I tried Precinct for brunch with our friend Hamish. We'll most certainly be back next time we are in town to try the lunch or evening fare. The breakfast menu offered the usual array of morning provisions; bacon and eggs, mushrooms on toast, salmon and an 'American Stack' of pancakes but probably because we were hungover all three of us immediately opted for 'The Real Deal' aka a big breakfast. The meals were fast and the service overall prompt. The food was very good and very nicely presented. Being Paleo I ditched the toast which was extraneous anyway really as the potato hash cake was more than adequate. According to Ryan the coffee was great and my peppermint tea was excellent and impressively presented with teapot, cup and saucer with an information card about the tea. The lunch and dinner menus feature items such as burgers and sliders, pulled pork, terrine, steaks, seafood and salads. All sound great and as promised, sourced as locally as possible. There's even a separate brunch menu which comes on mid morning and into the afternoon incase lunch goers fancy something more breakfast like. Now that's service. There's also a bites menu. So when in Mot... Do as the locals will soon be doing. Go to Precinct!

This place has a bistro and restaurant that seems to be incredibly popular. It's $$$$ prices (3 course menu - $94.00, 5 course menu - $125.00 and 7 course degustation - $155.00 NZD). High end stuff indeed. There's a secret garden (behind the Cellar Door). Would look into this if you're planning to eat here. For the wine tastings, there's three options: classic ($10.00 NZD/person), indulge ($15.00 NZD/person) and ultimate ($20.00 NZD/person). The more expensive options let you sample from the limited release wines. We stuck with the classic which let us try three. The pours are on the smaller side. Service was excellent. We had a French server who really knew his stuff and you could tell he was passionate about his trade. - Gewürztraminer - this one was good, well balanced. - Grüner veltliner - we weren't sure what to expect from this one. It was a bit more savoury. - Pinot gris - first pinot gris we've seen that's been pink in colour. It wasn't too sweet. A bottle of this would have been nice but pricey at $40.00 NZD. Good quality but it comes at a high price point. If you've got moola to burn, come here.

I was beyond mortified when my sister and I walked in wearing just our biking clothes having just finished a day of biking around to the various vineyards. However, the staff was more than welcoming making no comments towards how we may have been dressed. We were seated outside next to the fountain, a trellis path and a perfect view of the sunset. I couldn't get over the view, breath taking. This is the kind of romantic place you take a girl. Boys, take note. We ordered the aged beef from the special menu and the rack of lamb, pairing our dishes with their 2009 cabernet. Absolutely delicious meal, we savored every bite! I know tiping isn't customary in NZ, but the service, food, and atmosphere were fantastic, I couldn't leave without leaving them something to show my appreciation and satisfaction. I highly recommend coming here!
