Not sure why the review is so low. I've been there several times, the selections are massive & the prices are very competitive. They have more Asian beers than anywhere else. They even have my favorite Chinese beers TsingTao & Snow Beer. The service isn't great, not because the staff wasn't nice but they are not knowledgeable. Came here last night to grab a case of vsop. Total wine has everything yo I can think of for alcohol. I was greeted by Hunter who assistance me. Got a case, she carried it to the front, helped with checkout, and even offered to help load it in the car for me if I couldn't pick up the box. She was so kind to me and I haven't received this type of treatment when I walked into total wine before. Usually I just go grab what I need and check out. They carry a very extensive selection of wines and spirits! We were thrilled to find A Muse rose wine (Muses Estates, Greece) here. It has become "my wine" since discovering it in a restaurant in Athens a couple years ago. They also had some other selections from Muses, and some other good Greek selections (e.g. Hermes red). We almost bought them out of the Muses rose, so I hope they restock it. I'd love to see all the Total Wine locations expand their Greek selection but am happy there's several good choices. For rose and reds, Greek is the way to go. The price here was extremely reasonable. Staff is also polite and tries to be helpful too. read more

I have been here countless times but I was very upset by my visit today. I went in with two friends to get some alcohol for the evening. Upon entering everything was fine, we waited in line to check out and the cashier and then was asked for all of us to show ID. Only two of us were buying alcohol and one came in to use the bathroom. The cashier held the bottle at the register and refused to ring my friend up without seeing all three of our IDs. They said that it's policy and that everyone in the store needs to be ID'd regardless of if they are buying or not. For context, I am a white woman and I was with two friends who are not white. Upon being pressured for ID, one of my friends who was not purchasing walked out. While he was waiting outside for us to come out, the staff came in and "tattling "their boss mimicking what he had been saying when he was standing outside about being upset about the way he was treated. My other friend completed his purchase and stood by the door waiting for me to complete mine. While there he noticed that 2 to 3 other customers who went through different lines were not asked, nor did they have to show their ID. We became very clear in that moment why our group was being pressured and targeted to present our IDs. After my purchase, my friend approached the cashier stating that other people didn't have to show their IDs and he said that they should've had to and it's a store policy. Which made the situation more frustrating. The situation is very infuriating. And disappointing to say the least. Although I do enjoy total wine, I will not be returning to this establishment again. At least not this specific store. I'm really disappointed and a palled by the behavior of the staff and the experience that my friends had to have. read more

They have booze and drinking "accessories" you never knew existed, and you need! Every kind of beer, wine, cordial, mixer you can imagine! I'm glad they have a lot of different champagnes here, many of them chilled, if you need to grab something on the way to a party. They also have in store tastings as well as specifically arranged in advance "tasting parties" where you can try different beverages before buying. The parking lot can be a nightmare, especially around 5-7pm and specifically on Fridays from 5-7pm, do be forewarned. Staff is knowledgeable and you can see inventory online on their website. Absolutely love this place. I've shopped for liquor high and low, and Total Wine struck a chord with me when I experienced it while first visiting my mom in Florida a few years ago, so seeing this in CT was really exciting. Now that it has found it's way to Connecticut, I wish it would find itself in Weehawken. I might never leave. You come here to purchase, and you also come here to experience, investigate, ponder, discuss, discover, and taste...so much so that I would feel silly walking out of here with a 24 of Bud Light when there were 3 giant aisles fully stocked with craft beer from around the country (and the world). Today's visit yielded (in addition to four different kinds of wine and two bottles of bubbles) beer from Hawaii, Louisiana, San Francisco, and Upstate NY. We will be celebrating Easter with some Kona, some Anchor Steam, some Ithaca Apricot Wheat, and...the Louisiana one i've never heard of. (It is currently in the fridge, in the garage, and I am neither in the garage nor in the fridge.) While shopping, I had the option to partake in a wine tasting AND a local craft beer tasting AND a vodka tasting. In a liquor store. This makes sense, but I wonder why this hasn't caught on at the other larger stores yet... I had a lot of questions for the staff about the beer section and they knew most things offhand...and if they didn't know, they had a magical electronic device with them that provided even more information. The location is prime, but as has already been mentioned...parking in this particular shopping center is a festival of nonsense. Welp, I can see why nearby liquor stores may be shivering in their britches with the addition of Total Wine & More. They really know how to stock a huge store with a great variety of wines... and more! Liquor prices are comparable to the other large discount stores. What's more impressive is their variety. The store is also scattered with brief descriptions of each of the beers and wines; even the single-bottle craft beers have a description and score (when applicable). If you're a "beer person," you aren't going to find many you've never seen before, but it's still a great variety of some major and semi-major craft beers. (I only wish more singles were already refrigerated!) A few of people asked if they could help me, but they were not pushy, which I appreciated. The checkout person was also amazingly upbeat and friendly. They have a huge area devoted to tastings, and they also appeared to have a lecture by someone from Harpoon on a Thursday night. read more

So if you're out with a friend and they don't have ID or anything on them don't bother coming here as apparently they need to see anyone who's with you ID as well even if you are the one of age and paying. Completely bullshit have never experienced this elsewhere will not be back! Next you won't be able to go there as a high school kid with your mom as they'll ask for the kid's ID too? My fiancée went to Total Wine in Manchester for a champaign tasting for our wedding with Michelle. Michelle was pleasant and the tasting went well until we decided on our selection. Turned out they did not have enough inventory to fill our order of 2 cases. The wine we selected was not one Michelle had originally selected for our tasting. She had mostly dry selections and we were looking for something on the sweeter side. She had to change gear and pull wines that was more suited to us, so it was understandable that she did not check inventory before offering it to us to taste. They only had 6 bottles in stock. Total Wine was also having a flash sale that day, 15% off. I asked Michelle if she could check if other stores had enough stock and could send to her store, she said the other stores did not have enough, and the warehouse was having issues with getting that particular wine in so she could not order it. She spoke to the in-house supervisor who apparently was of no help and informed us that the regional manager was on vacation but would be coming to the store Thursday that week. She would talk to him to see what could be done and explained that he was very good at his job. I also asked if they would still honor the 15% and she said she would talk to him and thought it would not be a problem. She also had us select a backup wine in the event they could not get our original selection. She promised to get back to us on Friday. No call on Friday, I called the store late Saturday afternoon to speak to Michelle. Her response to me was she had a class that evening and was going to call me after. No apology for not getting back to me Friday. She then explained that they cannot get the wine. Shen then asked if I wanted to get the backup wine we selected. I asked would they honor the 15%. She said NO, the state laws would not allow it. She was very nonchalant with her responses, and ended with a non-caring, I really tried when I told her I would not purchase the backup wine. What a disappointment. The wine I wanted is only sold at Total Wine. I decided to try West Hartford Total Wine. They had a case of the wine I wanted. They were so helpful, I told them I needed 2 cases, they explained that they don't do store transfers store to store but would call other stores to check inventory and I could go and pick it up. They called Milford and they had a case. They had Milford hold it for me to pick up. They also honored the 15% because he knew that they offered it a week ago and understood my plight. 2 of the managers in West Hartford were on the phone checking for me. He also placed an order at the warehouse incase I didn't get enough although it was not guaranteed to get to them in time. To top it off he wrote on my receipt asking Milford to honor my 15% discount which they did. The Milford Total Wine was also a great experience. I told her why I had to drive that far for the wine and immediately she said if I run in that problem again, she listed off other wines I could try. She was a wealth of knowledge when it came to the products in the store. I watched her help 3 other people making recommendations and describing the products. I would drive to Milford just for her recommendations. Sorry, I didn't get her name, but she is a supervisor in that store. I will not shop at the Manchester store unless I have to for convenience, if Manchester Wine and Liquors don't have what I need. My experience at the West Hartford and Milford Total Wine was great and they will now get my business. read more

I went yesterday for the last time. I've been to TW&M more than a few times. First, i walked around aimlessly looking for an item before I went to a cashier for help. She asked two other girls where I could find the item I was looking for. now get this, I'm in the presence of three workers. I get directions from them and head back to the back of the store. That's when a guy, I presume the manager maybe, tells me I need to wear a mask and hands me one. I asked him why the other employees didn't say anything to me. Silence. Realizing he had given me a mask with only one loop, he heads off to get me another, but by the time he came back I told him to keep it, and I walked out of the store. 1) Get your employees to interact to some degree with customers. "Can I help you find something?" Would be a good start. 2) Get your employees on the same page over mask restrictions. All over CT you can now going into many establishments without a mask. OK, so you require mask. Does one need to be in a store for almost them minutes and confront four employees before one of them tells you to put one on? Well, that's my advice to Total Wines. Now here's my advice to future customers. SHOP SOMEWHERE ELSE. read more

Total Wine has quickly become my go-to for adult beverages, whether I'm picking up old favorites or looking for something new to try. The warehouse style shopping can obviously be intimidating, especially for first-timers. I made my first trip on an afternoon when I had time to explore and learn the lay of the land. I was able to locate all the things I love (for quick bee-lining on subsequent visits), while also spotting some unique and interesting beverages that I would've have otherwise sought out on my own. The selections across the board are pretty impressive and the way the store is arranged makes finding what your are looking for quite easy. Prices seem to be competitive overall but there are those exceptions so you need to pay close attention. I think Yankee Spirits in Sturbridge and Table and Vine in West Springfield have a more in depth assortment of foreign beers but the nod goes to Total Wine for the higher end wines from around the world. If you live in the area or frequent the Manchester area this would always be a good stop to find that special something. read more

Incredible! I have been to other Total Wine & More locations throughout the U.S. and I was excited that we finally got one in Central CT. Like other reviews have mentioned they have an expansive selection of wine, beer, and spirits. I spent quite a bit of time in the beer area and walked away with quite a few different selections. I also found the beer prices to be very competitive. I also like that they have single bottles where you can build your own 6 pack to try a few different brews. It will be interesting to see how their inventory changes based on the season. I didn't spend too much time in the wine and spirits section, but I know from other locations that they have a wonderful selection. I also like the wine and beer tastings that they offer. I will be sure to hit a few of those up in the coming months. Added bonus of a great selection of barware and glassware throughout the store too. I love one stop shopping. Plenty of staff throughout the store that know their stuff incase you have any questions. Only negative to me (like Kristina L. mentioned) is the parking. Refund warning! If your delivery is incomplete from the Manchester, CT store, call the "contact us" customer service phone number to ensure your refund is processed. I waited 15 days as instructed only to find the store had not even started the refund process per the customer service agent with whom I spoke. The customer service agent initiated the refund process since the store neglected to do so (holding over revenue??). Also, the delivery driver hung up on me when I offered assistance to locate the address. He claimed he could not find the house which resulted in my order being cancelled. Finally, I kept getting emails asking to rate the products I received...which made me suspicious that my refund had not been processed. Generally, I have had excellent experiences with Total Wine. Never been treated worse by a company! One of my friends and I went in to grab a few drinks and she found what she wanted quicker than I did and head back to the car a few minutes later I checked out, gave my ID and the cashier called for an ID check after asking if I was with a friend. I was told if I found her and came back in they would ring up my purchase. I went out to the car got her and the manager checked her Id and then said he would have to check the cameras to make sure I was not with anyone else. I had not even found what I wanted, I was never offered help, I was so unhappy with this experience and did not care to wait a second longer I took my money elsewhere. I mean, it is Total Wine & More .. they have more booze than anyone else around here that I have seen, even though the store is the smallest Total Wine I have been in. The beer selection was pretty reasonable and the prices were also excellent - one bottle I saw at Whole Foods was $2 less here (when its a $7 vs $9 its a decent savings) .. They have tastings for wine liquor and beer, and that is nice if you want to try what they are sampling - when we were in it was Samuel Adams beer "the best craft beer in the country" is what they said. OK well, I am not even going to taste that. (no, they were not tasting Utopias). They had some "rare" beers behind the beer counter that you could ask for to buy - 120 min ipa and a stone enjoy by .. Anyways, if you want some cheap booze and a staff that knows a fair amount about what you are shopping for, this place is a top pick. One huge problem I have with this place -- The parking lot. If I could give 0 stars I would. I had the most abysmal experience I have had at a liquor store in my entire life. My girlfriend and I were just browsing through the vodka section (both 21 by the way) and we were stopped by an employee who asked for our ids. I had left my id in the car but my girlfriend had hers, I tried showing her a picture of my passport but she refused and told us to leave. From the other reviews it seems like this store hates business. She should get the award for employee of the month because she's been able to successfully follow the store motto of not selling any alcohol. Honestly, it seems like they hate the store owner cause they want to ensure that the owner gets 0 business. If I owned this place, I would be worried, because from the other reviews and my experience it seems like your employees are doing an amazing job at pissing off a lot of people and losing tons of business. Great store, massive selection, OK pricing, and good for a Pick 6 mixed 6pack. Overall, I really like this store, even if they are in one of the more irritating strip mall parking lots in Manchester. (Always difficult to get in and out... bad parking lot traffic patterns, tons of cars, tons of oblivious pedestrians). That said, totally worth it to make a trip to this place, so long as you have lots of time, because you'll undoubtedly get lost wandering the aisles and looking at all the great stuff to buy, then at your wallet or purse, then at all the stuff to buy again.. I only say OK pricing, because a few of the scotches I've looked at have been a little bit higher than I sometimes see elsewhere. That's true anywhere though, not everything can be a great deal... and sometimes it's just up to you as the consumer to know your prices. My wife (age 39) and I (age 48) went to the Total Wine location in Manchester, CT. We had approximately $250 of items and when we went to check out, the cashier said that we both needed to provide ID. I had my ID but my wife did not. I showed it to the cashier but she said that since my wife was in the store, that she would also need to show one. I asked why as we are both clearly over the legal age and I had my license and would be the one purchasing the alcohol. Another team member stopped by and reiterated the same line about her needing her ID. At that point, we just walked out. I'm very disappointed as I frequent the store and have spent a considerable amount of money there. I just cannot see the logic behind this arbitrary rule and that is what bugged me the most. If I was looking to make a purchase and had my 16 year old son with me, would I have also been denied? The people behind us in line had a small child with them, who happened to be holding a bottle. Were they denied because she didn't have an ID? It just seems to be an overreach and it cost them business and I left without that bottle I had been looking for. read more

Absolutely great selection at Total Wine, and the prices are even better. The staff is knowledgeable and you can find their recommendations on every shelf. I especially like how the craft beer is organized by state or region, It makes it easy to find a new local favorite. They have weekly tasting events, be it wine or beer. The only real negative is that the refrigerated section is tiny, which mean some of us impatient imbibers have to wait 30 whole minutes to refrigerate ourselves (scandalous). 7/10 great prices for both skimping sippers or chintzy chuggers read more

(Juice and soda mixers you can buy at a grocery store, but they also have a great selection of unique mixers like ginger beer). Simply put, they have the best prices, best selection, and most knowledgeable staff. People in the store care about and know about what they are selling. Each store is clean, well laid out, easy to navigate. On top of it all, they do both smaller free tastings and planned, themed, paid (Like $5) tastings (very well attended, buy tickets in advance). Every store across the country I have visited is as good as the next, across the board. read more

I had one of the strangest experiences at total wine today. Normally its an awesome experience. I normally learn something new everytime I leave. Today i guess you could say it was no different, except for the fact i wasn't allowed to buy anything due to the fact I left my I.D. at home. My wife who was with me had hers, but she was told she couldn't buy any either because she was with me due to state law. I forgot to mention this is after i walked throughout the store tasting wine champagne whiskey and gin with no one ever asking to see I.D. This liquor store is on pleasant Valley but I had a very UNPLEASANT experience. I was initially very pleased with their selection and prices however, Manager Anthony quickly changed my opinion. I walked in with my friend who unfortunately forgot his I.D at home, I had mine but we were denied sale because only one of us had an ID. Anthony was very rude and unkind during this process. Agree with all the other 1 star reviews. Had a bad experience here with friends last weekend. 2 people had their IDs one forgot hers in the car. 1 person was purchasing everything. Cashier told us since not everyone had their IDs we couldn't buy. Fine. But then the cashier made us wait until the manager came over. We asked if we could just leave we wouldn't buy anything. Cashier was extremely rude and said no you can't leave you're on camera. Um what? Manager came over to tell us we couldn't buy. Uh yeah I know the cashier literally just said that.
