Amazing place. Supportive, friendly staff that truly cares about you and your goals. 6 months in and I'll never go anywhere else again!

This Y has a very attractive/affordable monthly fee and a decent amount of free parking, which is…read morethe main reason for the 4th star. About half of the gym equipment is rather old, a bit creaky/decrepit and could use updating. The main workout area is spacious but poorly lit, seemingly by industrial fluorescent lights about the same age as the machines, and thus rather dreary, though there is no shortage of equipment or space. Unfortunately, most of the cardio equipment in the nice glass-walled dedicated cardio section is second-rate compared to that of other Boston area Ys. Perhaps this is a result of the lower membership dues? Floor staff and members have a rather aloof vibe. This being New England, nothing out of the ordinary really. One of the biggest pros of this Y is its decently hot sauna, which is a big plus especially during the colder months...don't know why it isn't more common at all gyms in this region. However, said sauna does NOT have any posted rules---as such, it is a much less pleasant environment than it could be. Namely, this sauna often smells bad and slippery pools of mysterious (probably better not to know, lol) liquids often form on the concrete floor. Equally gross: instead of wearing just a towel or at most, a pair of swim trunks in the sauna, many members wear their full workout outfit or even street clothes in the sauna, which only adds to the, ahem, "special aroma" of the place. Below this review, I've attached the sauna rules applied at the Cambridge Y and mostly followed by their members, which makes a huge positive difference. If only the Malden Y had the same! In particular, it's painfully obvious that many users of this sauna fail to shower first BEFORE getting into the sauna post-workout. Yes, the olfactory consequences are exactly as dreadful as you can imagine. Another big drawback: The locker room and shower areas are often quite crowded. Not great during winter virus season. Cleaning staff, if there are any, are nowhere to be seen during normal business hours when they are most needed. This is unfortunately a common problem at many gyms, however (cough cough, Planet Fitness). Being open one hour later on Fridays than the Cambridge Y and offering free parking and less traffic en route, are the only things that keep me swinging by this place a few times a month.

This seems to be a large YMCA, including a running track a basketball court a huge workout area…read morewith lots of free weights and machines. The best thing is it has three swimming pools. One pool is basically a splash type pool for free swim. they also have a designated lap pool, which is what I am interested in. The third is an outside pool, which I have not used however, summer is approaching and I will check it out, but I assume it's gonna be for family and children on hot days more than someone like myself that swims laps. The facility is very large, but has tight parking. It is located behind downtown Malden. The staff throughout the facility all seem very nice and always try to be helpful. Be prepared when school lets out for there to be a lot of extra activity here as that's one of the high populated times of the day toddlers and highschoolers alike.

Core Cardio Fitness - Zumba with Ana

Core Cardio is an amazing place. The trainers/instructors, the classes, and the community are…read morefantastic. They offer TRX (suspension training), Real Ryder Cycling, Bootcamp, Cardio Kick Boxing and Zumba! Even in the largest classes(about 12-15 students max for bootcamp) everyone gets personal attention, and the instructors are tuned into everyone's different goals and fitness levels, and they care. They also have a running club that meets 3 times a week, 2 times the meet ups are local in malden, and on the weekends they do a destination run, and the club is made up of all different levels. The club also does local 5k and 10k races. I think the biggest thing that makes this place so wonderful, besides the amazing classes and fantastic instructors, is how welcoming it is, not only do the instructors care about their clients, the studio/running club members care about each other and support each other. This is an ideal place for anyone who wants to challenge themselves. If your looking to make a lifestyle change, and add exercise to your life, this is the gym for you. If your already in great shape and looking to up your game, this is gym for you. If you've always hated gyms and work out studios(I would fit into this category) this is the gym for you. I started at this gym just shy of 6 months ago. I was desperate to get into shape and fit into my wedding dress, I had 8 weeks to lose it, or they were going to have to cut my dress and remake it(read nightmare), in 8 weeks with the help of Ashley and everyone at Core Cardio, they had to take my dress in( 4 inches in total). That was the first goal core cardio helped me reach, recently I hit another personal goal of running a 5k in under 30 minutes, so running under ten minute miles. I recently hit this goal as well, I ran a race that I'd previously run, but I dropped about 8 minutes off my time. In addition to all of that I have dropped 3 pant sizes, and lost 11.5 pounds. For my height and build I'm now only about 10lbs away from my ideal weight and I know with core cardio I will get there. You will not regret making the time and trying your first class free! You literally have nothing to lose.

I'm so glad I found Core Cardio Fitness. I initially joined one of the 6 week transformation…read morechallenges and have continued to go to the classes ever since. The classes are challenging but fun and engaging. I love the small group atmosphere and it's been fun getting to know other members and becoming a part of the community. The best part is that Ashely gets to know everyone personally and he will push you outside your comfort zone if he knows you are capable of more but will also give you modifications for any exercise that you need. I've lost weight, noticed my clothes fitting better and have gotten into a much better exercise and healthy eating routine. I've also gotten a lot stronger and built muscle which is something I struggled to do on my own. After a long day at work, I actually look forward to going to Core Cardio and working out. I'd definitely recommend it!

I really enjoy this gym--my boyfriend and I have been members for some time now and the only…read moreproblem we ever had was with the TVs on the elliptical/treadmills not working (this was resolved long ago, thankfully!) They have a good number of cardio machines and weights along with a back room where you can watch work out programs (we really like this feature and have used it a few times). They also have bathrooms with showers (male and female). It's generally pretty quiet so we rarely have a hard time getting machines. The only reason I am docking them a star is because of their staffed hours. I understand they cannot be staffed 24/7, and I've personally never had a problem, but on a few occasions my boyfriend and I have been in the gym and noticed people loitering outside. On one occasion we left and the gentleman outside (who had been waiting outside for around 25 minutes) asked us if there was anyone inside and we said no. This was a Saturday and apparently he had called and they said they would be there from 11-3 (same hours posted on the door), but there it was 2:00 and no one was there. A similar event happened on another Saturday but it was earlier in the day, around 11:45 when we left the gym (again hours said 11:00-3:00) but no one was there. The poor guy had waited outside for quite some time and had obviously gone out of his way (we saw him go to his car, we can luckily walk over), only to find that no one was there to show him around/sign him up. Saturdays are obviously a busy day for sign ups/inquiries because a lot of people probably work late on weekdays and can't make it over. I think it would be a good idea to post signs on the door if the place won't be staffed as promised. Otherwise great gym! Maybe call ahead before you head down to sign up and make sure that someone will actually be there, though it seems they leave early sometimes so you never know?

The gym needs a huge upgrade. I have been to others Anytime Fitness gyms across the country and…read morethis one is among the worst. Only reason I go there: close home and I like the guys who work there.
