If you like being blamed by owners of a business for THEIR completely wrong assessments and ineptitude, then this is the place for you. Three things needed to be done and they were 0 for 3 in not only assessing what needed to be done, but repeatedly kept getting it wrong and inexplicably wanting to say it wasn't their fault that they didn't assess things as thoroughly as a professional place would. In fact, it was much worse than that, which is bad enough. But the real probem is that they simply wouldn't/can't/don't accept ANY responsibility for anything. They even came close to turning on each other when others weren't around, implying that they, specifically, wouldn't have made the mistakes that the ever-elusive and vague 'someone else' did. These guys are awesome. Very knowledgeable and actually know what they're are doing unlike people that say they do and do not have a clue. I've had some bad experiences but Teresa and crew made me feel really good about leaving my Jeep at their facility. I was reading up on some reviews posted on Total Performance and I must say if you think they are expensive well then take the chance and go to your local Joe schmoe for service. TRUST & HONESTY - I trust them and that is why as use them. When I used to bring my jeep to the local jeep dealer I would cringe - they constantly recommended unnecessary services. I don't go to the dealer anymore I bring my jeeps to Chris at Total Performance in Mahwah, NJ. I own 4 jeeps and they service them all. I run my jeeps on the beach all summer long and off road in the fall & winter and they take a beating. I don't want to get stuck and I have confidence in the work they do. With their help we have customized our jeeps (bumpers/tires/rims/lights/tow hitches etc) and I when I ask for their recommendations on equipment they follow up and make suggestions. I brought my vehicle down for an oil change on Thursday July 9 2020 for an oil change I asked for a oil change only . After I paid ( which I would have never if I went in car first ) I went to start my vehicle and noticed the mileage had increased almost 6 miles . I happen to have a 400 hp performance vehicle know for its fun , and after seeing this I walked inside and began to explain my frustration and feeling of being violated . . I never would let anyone just take my vehicle off a drive when no mechanical Has been done ( replacement of any parts or with direct link to safety ) he boldly says in 27 years no one complained , and I was the first, he said that if I didn't wAnt anyone to drive i was supposed to inform him ahead of time . And that every shop he knows does the same ( please leave comment if your a mechanic and you feel this is true) In my 50 years of life I never heard such of things, perhaps I have been living under a rock. Saying it was his responsibility to Ensure my safety Because if anything happens after I leave his shop , he is liable . Proceeds to tell me I need four tries a wheel bearing and a power steering pump repairs .1800$ worth of work when I wanted a 39.99$ oil change Well needless to say I'm furious I feel utterly disgusted and taken advantage of , and that the reputation of not trusting mechanics is still very very alive .... . you may have a different experience and that is great this waS my awful Experience . And if I could afford a lawyer I'd be inquiring , for the abuse on my vehicle and what I'm sure will be a repair in my Near future from the abuse it received while in their care .... read more

BEWARE. Broken promises, horrendous customer service and outright lack of respect. I am extremely disappointed in Chris the Owner of Total Performance Inc. He came recommended to me by a mutual auto sales company to perform upgrades on my 2017 Wrangler Rubicon Unlimited. I spoke to him and things seemed OK, I sent him a detailed request and he promised to get back to me in a day or two with an estimate. TWO weeks later I exchanged 3-4 emails with him and called him and again was promised an estimate by the end of the day. It was 3 days later and 2 1/2 weeks from the original request that I received an estimate. The estimate was MUCH more then expected and I had multiple questions so I responded with an email and my questions. Apparently you can not question Chris's estimates or he gets VERY defensive. He called me with a HORRIBLE attitude basically yelling at me and refusing to let me speak. I was in my office and tried multiple time to tell him my questions and asked him to calm down. But he would not listen he continued to talk over me. Finally I HAD to go, someone walked into my office, I tried to stop his yelling but couldn't so I hung up. Once the person left I wrote him an email and explained. He was uncooperative and refuse to discuss anything with me and since I hung up on his yelling he said I should find another place to get the work on my JEEP Wrangler done. All this un-professionalism after WASTING 2 weeks of my time with his broken promises. Well honestly that is the best thing because I can not work with someone that does not have MUTUAL respect and Excellent Customer Service. So unless you are willing to OVERPAY and NOT ask any questions I would go elsewhere. UPDATE 4/23 Very interesting that Chris would mention not liking people who do not respect his time. Maybe he should remember this when promising quotes in a day or two and then delivering them in 2-3 weeks. This had nothing to do with budget. I am driving a brand new Rubicon and getting the work done elsewhere. It had everything to do with lack of customer service and mutual respect. I experienced a lifter tap in the left side of the engine of my JK Wrangler at 127000 miles . My neighbors brother had his Jeep have the same problem at 67,000 miles and he had his brother raved about the service done by Chris and his very talented staff at Total Performance. Chris ended up having to replace both the intake and exhaust valve camshafts on the left side of the engine, along with lifters and rockers and various required gaskets . While it was in his shop, I asked them to change the serpentine belt while they were at it. The work was done even quicker than I expected , a day and a half, the price was as quoted, and frankly his charges were very reasonable, especially since the price of camshafts has skyrocketed since Covid. I couldn't be happier with the total experience at Total Performance. Chris and his wife Theresa were great to deal with. They really like Jeeps here as there always seem to be around 10 Jeeps parked outside. (I worked in the adjoining town for many years) and would go by often ) They do lifts, accessories , installs , and more and they work on all vehicles. They know their stuff here. First went to Total Performance when I first purchased my Jeep, was told they were the best choice for my lift. It has been almost 10 year, i have since moved, and it is now 190,000 miles later and still only this my shop of choice to work on my vehicle,especially when i needed to replace the engine last year! They are a pleasant crew, honest and diligent, and have always stood by their work. A couple of instances where there was an issue, they took care of it. I hate that I have to write review but people need to KNOW. Be very careful with these people I had my Jeep here for 3 weeks and had appointment to have truck worked on, but they gave me excuse after excuse to keep pushing my date back, so when I question the women on the phone she gave me an attitude and told me to just come pick up truck that they won't be fixing and hung up on me, and on top of that they said my Jeep need lifters and cams on the Drivers side so when she told me to pick up truck I decided to bring to Jeep dealership in Ramsey and have them look at it. Within one day Jeep dealer told me my lifters and cams where not an issue at all and I just needed to replace drive belt. Total performance wanted to charge me $2,100 for replacement that wasn't needed. Saved myself around $1,900. This place should be called total scam not total performance. ( if you read all the reply's from this company on reviews you can just see what kind of people you are dealing with, very rude and arrogant when you try to question them) and on top of all of this my car was filled with sap from trees where they part the cars, these people don't care about you or your car. read more
