ACUPUNCTURE BILLING FRAUD I was quoted $120.00 for an acupuncture appointment with ALex . First I called and their receptionist quoted $120.00 and then the day of the Aptmt. 8/29/24 at the front desk before the appointment I was quoted $120.00 would be billed to my Blue Cross/Blue Shield insurance (I had also checked with BC/BS prior and they said my appointment will be covered; yay...what great news; our traditional insurance will finally cover acupuncture. I got the bill and TOTAL health systems took advantage of my insurance and charged over $300.00 for this $120.00 appointment. They charged an additional $120.00 for an office visit (I didn't have an office visit; I had an acupuncture visit. They are double dipping on the billing. Then they charged an additional $85.00 for a 15 minute time (during the $120.00 session) for plugging in the electrical current which I was NEVER asked if I wanted that extra service and NOT told it would mean billing my insurance an extra $85.00! I called the Washington Twp., office and spoke to Barb the manager who didn't think there was anything amiss with lying to me about the total costs or doing a BAIT and SWITCH to the customer. I requested to speak to the CLinical DIrector and Owner Aaron Lundgaard and he didn't even bother to do his job and troubleshoot my complaint. Instead Barb said to me she told him about it and his answer was there is nothing wrong with how this was billed? I am the customer who was deceived by shady business practices and Aaron replied he saw no problem. If I don't hear back from Aaron this week I intend to file a formal complaint with our Michigan Better Business Bureau. I live in Washington Twp. and am very active in the community...sadly I will share my experience with our community in a variety of ways to warn people of these shady business practices. Very disappointing this business will ruin it for future expansion of alternative health care with their greed and taking advantage of sick clients like me. Total Health Systems have committed FRAUD in my case and have shown no regard when I called this to their attention. UNfortunately I also did not benefit from the acupuncture I received from ALex; I saw no improvements whatsoever. However, Alex is very nice, kind and empathetic but needs much more practice placing needles without pain. I have received acupuncture from a variety of practitioners and know what results can be achieved. Worse yet 1 out of every 3 needles Alex placed were painful. A good acupuncturist knows how to place almost all the needles without pain. The goal of this complaint is to warn others about their shady business practices from deceiving the customer of their billing practices and to create a change with this problem. The receptionist needs to be up front when asked the price; by saying there are two prices. They have 2 prices one for the paying customer and one for your insurance. I will never do business with a greedy deceitful place like this thanks to poor management, training, price gouging and lack of response from the owned when you have a problem with billing. I broke a bone in my leg and needed physical therapy to learn to walk and be able to return to a physical job. I highly recommend Kurt as a therapist and yes you can request him. He went over and beyond to explain my therapy objectives and pushed me in a positive way to to painlessly rehab my knee. He even suggested ideas to do more home therapy on my own at home. I can't say enough good things about the team at the Washington location of total heath systems. The front desk service that Barb provides is tip notch. I've known her for the better part of 20 years. She is always pleasant and helpful on the phone, and never fails to great me with by name and with a smile when I walk in. Dr. Lisa is awesome!! She is always Professional and personable! Lisa is well aware of how my back adjusts, and takes the time to make sure that "trouble areas" are moving well. I'm an avid cyclist and workout daily and I've been seeing Emily for massage services for 15 years! She knows her stuff, and I would highly recommend Emily (as well as the rest of the staff at this location) for everything from muscle soreness to regular back adjustments to rehabilitation!! read more

I just love Dr Jenn and Dr Lisa! They get right to the point, and make me feel better instantly! The office staff are very accommodating for schedule changes, and always super nice. Emily is my go-to gal for the best massages, and I will rearrange my schedule to get her as my massage therapist. A good massage therapist is hard to find, and once you find the one for you...hang onto them! Total Health is the FIRST and only place I come when my back or neck hurts. read more

You'll want to avoid this place unless you'd like to pay $800 (like me) for x-rays. Referred my wife: $800 in X-rays who referred her mother: $800 in x rays. And this is just the tip of the crooked billing iceberg. There is so much more I could say about: arguments with the office manager ("we charge the maximum your insurance allows us to charge") and another $1000 in bills received today (none past due or accrued BTW). But I'll just leave my opinion of Total Health being possibly the most crooked medical facility I've ever encountered. read more

Customer for 15 years. Used a coupon offered for a one hour massage - buy one, get one half off. There was no expiration date (as there never are on Total Health coupons). The staff member that checked us in was very friendly and also accepted the coupon without any question. These are the things that keep me coming back to see the GREAT therapists at the Garfield location, but there weren't any appointments, so we decided to try it and were both thrilled that Teresa was working to fill a spot at this location. SHE ROCKS! My husband had an excellent massage with her, while I was greeted my a therapist (Mary Cain) who didn't smile or really say anything initially. When I entered the room for my massage, the music from the lobby was blaring "Uptown Funk". I used the volume button on the wall to turn it down and thought - "I hope this doesn't play the entire time". I wanted to dance, not relax. Any professional massage therapist should have a relaxing type of music playing. When she entered the room, she asked if the music was okay and I told her it wasn't relaxing, so she turned it off. This allowed for a very unrelaxing experience. I could hear everything that went on in the office. The front desk took several calls and I heard each of them. Laura was on break and called to pay her delinquent GFL bill on speaker phone. I heard every option she chose, and the break she got on the bill, as well as her conversation with the manager there. I knew that she was going out with Diane after work, and that she got off at 7:00 PM. I heard the relaxation music Teresa had on next door and thought - at least my husband is getting a good massage. Three times, the text message notification went off in her pocket near my ear during my massage. This is so unprofessional. And then, the burp - without an excuse me. I left there feeling like I hadn't even had a massage. Not once did she ask about the pressure, so I just wanted to get it over with. I tipped her accordingly and waited for my husband in the car. When he came out, he explained that he tipped Mary and hoped that I hadn't. I had. Mary received an appropriate tip for the experience and ended up being over tipped, as she was not honest and didn't tell my husband she received a tip already. THEN - he went on to tell me that the office manager stopped him on the way out and asked for 10.00 more, as the rates had changed and the coupon we used (without an expiration date) was no longer valid!?!? WHO DOES THAT? Marketing made a mistake to not use a date of expiration. Had this been mentioned at check in, we would have gladly paid the additional. My husband gave her the extra cash and was astonished. I went back in and explained the experience to her and she apologized, and gave back the 10.00 she upcharged him on the way out, and also offered a gift certificate for a half hour massage which she later changed to a one hour at her own will. I was appreciative of her understanding and I realize everyone wants a different type of massage, although this was all very unprofessional. Mary accepting a tip without telling my husband she had already gotten one is the part that really upsets me the most. The gift certificate made up for that, although, it was only dishonest and made what was supposed to be a day to de-stress, more stressful! read more
