Teachers have been great although there are one or two that are just average. The seminar program is excellent too, although your child must test into that. The PE teacher that they added a couple years ago has been a great help too; he really gets kids excited about PE. They also have before school & after school programs available. The school is in the middle of a huge renovation that will add a two story classroom building and remodel all of the existing classrooms. If you can get into Spreckels then I highly recommend the school for your child.

They had food trucks selling shaved ice and snow cones, arts and crafts, food and snacks, games, a DJ, and live performances by their lion dance team, hula dancers, and martial arts team. I was amazed by how talented the students were. I've seen a lot of professional lion dancers and the performances by these kids were comparable! They did such an excellent job! The school did a wonderful job planning this event, but their greatness doesn't end here. According to my niece, all of her teachers have been awesome! She actually looks forward to coming to school and is sad when it's summer or winter break because she misses her teachers and classmates. I remembered Curie Elementary from a few years ago when my own son attended an autism socialization program after school, I really liked the campus and the area. I was really impressed with how Ms. Hunter setup her classroom and how the children had bonded to her, especially after finding out the short amount of time she's been there. She's very personable and funny, imo kids on the spectrum respond to that. It seems like a great school, and it might be a great fit for my cousin's son, the only thing that bothers me is that the teacher that would be a awesome fit for him won't be there in the fall, she got laid off. If she were staying I would definitely recommend this school to my cousin without hesitation. I think Joshua would love it here! Each has excelled and been so supported and cared for by TPES Teachers and Staff. Every Teacher has been so knowledgeable and great in helping our kids progress and grow each day. The before and after school care program, run in conjunction with the YMCA across the street, is Character Builders. Ms Sherry and all the Character Builder Staff are top notch. Our kids do not want to leave at the end of the day. The VAPA and PE programs are also very supportive and great opportunities for children. I get all teary-eyed when I think of what they did for my child who had developmental delays. THE STAFF IS THE BEST! I owe everything to them. Having gone to several specialists (PT, OT, Speech, etc.), the staff really knows their stuff. They are so open and understanding. They are willing to teach parents how to help their child progress. And everyday, no matter what, they greeted my child with lots of hugs and love. This is just one gem of a school in the San Diego Unified School District. Don't believe what people say about SDUSD! They do have quality schools! This one proves it.

The staff is welcoming and lovely. The principal is extremely dedicated. It is very small which gives it a family feel. Both of my children have had a great experience here. They are loved and educated.
