As we all approach the door, the glorified bouncers decide we can't come in because we're wearing "flip flops." Allegedly. NONE OF THE LADIES have on flip flops - we're all wearing dressy sandals - flat sandals, but dressy/nice. The bouncers then proceed to go to the back of the line and get all the white patrons and bring them inside - many of them wearing both athletic shoes/sneakers (dirty ones at that) or flat sandals (some white girls even had on the EXACT SAME SHOES as some of the ladies in our group)! We asked to speak to the manager. She came out and acknowledged us for about 2 minutes then quickly ran back inside. I should make it known that the lighter-skinned folks in our group were allowed in for their reservation - even the ones with flat sandals. It's evident Gatsby is incredibly wealthy and incredibly racist because they just turned away 45 BLACK patrons. They evidently don't need our coins and they don't need yours. The music was amazing...some of the best EDM sets and the DJ artfully mixed in American rock. Five stars for the DJ! Make sure you apply an extra coat of deodorant before heading over though because this place is hot...uncomfortably so...by the end of the night I felt like I could skip my workout the next day because I had sweat so much at Sotavento. It's also really cool how the exit for this club lets out onto the beach. A lot of people hang out there and you can still hear the music. It's definitely worth checking out and a great way to escape the heat.
