The food was great. Ambiance was causal, however during the holiday months a reservation would be a must. Unfortunately, they asked for a tip. Australia doesn't tip mate! read more

No doubt a popular pub during the high season…read more Most of the times that I have been to Tourquay has simply been to pass through on my way to the Great Ocean Road, however the last time I came through here I decided that I really should have a beer at one of the pubs, especially since it does seem to be a popular place for people of all sorts (though the massive surf shops on the road into the town gives a clear indication of the type of people this seaside town actually caters). It didn't take me long to find this pub, which I must say was pretty nice on the outside, but as it turns out it appears to also function as a motel (but then again, since this is a holiday destination, that is not surprising). There was a nice beer garden outside and a large room with a couple of pool tables in it. However, since I have only ever driven through this town during winter (with the exception of when I was a kid) I can't say how great this pub is at other times.

I was all set to go for the duck, when I saw an English Parma on the menu; which came topped with mash, bacon, cheese and gravy. It was one of those days, so I went the Parma. And what a delight it was. My partner uncharacteristically ordered a beef burger. She did not stop talking about it the entire time! I tried it and it was very tasty. The wait staff were friendly, the food was quick, and the atmosphere great. There was a range of meals too. They catered for those "pub" meals, and but also had a great selection of classier meals and great desserts. I've eaten at a lot of over priced pubs/clubs that I'd never go back too. This place had a good range of prices and was great. Neither of us could finish half our meals, so we asked the waiter and we took the rest home. No reason to over eat! I'd go back in a heart beat.

Tucked in beside the Jan Juc shops, The Beach Hotel is a pretty good quick-stop for lunch or dinner. Their parmas are enormous, and tasty... and they have a number of different types to keep things interesting. The kids menu is not very expensive, and they will also make a point of getting the kids food out first so they can then go for a run and play in the kids room with the sides and stuff. Not too shabby for a local. Not the best, but pretty consistent. Worth a look-see if you're in the area.

We stayed in one of the eco tents, a very sturdy structure that kept plenty warm in a chilly night with the plug in heater. The beds were the most comfortable in our entire stay through Australia. We even got a free upgrade - bonus! The staff were friendly and helpful. The room had everything expected and it was clean and in good condition. The location is just off the Rye main shops and the super market is about a kilometer away. Rye beach and the pier are on the other side of the highway (a few hundred metres). The best feature had to be the outdoor heated pool and spa. It was warm enough to go straight in - even on a mild spring day. Something to watch finding it is that Napier street is closed at the Nepean Highway end (so there is no through traffic, which keeps the noise down). But if you don't know this you could drive passed it several times - like we did. You have to come in via Nelson st.

Inside, out the front and then the side. All are ok, but as its so big, it feels to me clumsy. But that's just me. The reason for giving 3 and not 4 stars was the service. I was with a friend with an 18 month old baby and all (YES ALL) hot drinks and some of the hot food was served in hand reach of the child. Come on, that's just silly!! Had to ask for used cups, plates, table numbers to be moved from the table too. I guess it's the attention to detail that was lacking, and given the size of the venue you could understand if they were full. But it was at 4pm and they were not. The few snacks we shared were great. I would return based on the food. Not the service.

As soon as I walked into reception to collect my room key, the man there started yelling at me telling me to let him handle it when I was just trying to make his job easier by suggesting that he was pointing to the wrong place which said 'DRIVE THRU' when we had booked for a villa. When we walked into our cabin, we already realised that there was an EXTREMELY small shower (which was very small compared to other villas of the same type) and toilet so having showers in it was very uncomfortable. The railing on the bunk bed was wonky which wasn't very settling. The only two good things about the park in general were the cheap Kart hire service and the comfy beds.
