They have two different rooms to hold services in, a ballroom for Kiddush and other events, and a few rooms for the kids to go off and learn about their people and their religion in a more relaxed atmosphere. It's well air-conditioned, and everything about it is beautiful. The Rabbi, towards the end of the service, held his kids in his arms (after they ran down the middle of the aisle to him), to read the announcements. He helped my cousin through the last year and a half with his studies and preparing him for his Bar Mitzvah. He delivered a wonderful message about individualism and studying the Torah during the days before Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. Have you ever heard Hebrew? I believe it to be one of the most beautifully romantic languages out there...besides the "ch" sound, which sounds kind of like something is stuck in your throat. But the imagery of the characters are ancient and amazing. During the prayers I would run my hand across each character; from Alef to Zayin, carefully sounding out each letter, and trying to remember what dot/slash/etc signified which vowel sound. The walls carried these prayers throughout the entire temple, filling each person with a new sense of hope for the rest of Shabbot and the upcoming week. And whoever made that kugel for Kiddush should be locked away in a kitchen, forced to cook it 24/7 for the masses who have been subjected to terrible kugel. It's just like my family to tell me I'm too skinny and make me eat at least a pound of kugel on my own. At least, that's what I'm telling people when they ask why I've gained so much weight.

For me, Shearith provides a perfect place between the orthodox and the reformed. Shearith has been a part of my family for three generations and is now going through an exciting evolution, under the guidance of Rabbi Ari Sunshine (hired July '17). His East Coast ethos is a welcome influence into this once old-school Texas congregation. For example, he recently added a drum-circle-themed Shabbat service to attract congregants looking for a more energizing service! He is also focusing more time and resources on the next generation: those congregants in their 20's and 30's. I am excited to be a part of this evolution and I encourage new Jewish Dallasites to check out the this now dynamic congregation.

Temple Shalom is a warm, loving and nurturing home for anyone interested in seeking connections with other people, with programs and projects in the community, with the deep and rich heritage of our people and, ultimately, with God. Our Temple seeks to enrich all of the lives of our family through the three historic aspects of synagogue life; a house of prayer, a house of study and a place for meaningful gathering. Temple Shalom offers a full complement of worship opportunities. Shabbat morning services, Tot Shabbat services, as well as holiday and festival celebrations, are the hallmark of our continued effort to connect with others and with God. They are almost done with remodeling much of the building. There are some beautiful changes to an already inviting temple.

Rabbi Rich has been a friend to me and my family for ages…read more We have eaten at his house and one time I was walking by just after my son had a reaction from an allergy. I don't know why, but I started crying and they took me in until I got over it. The Rich family has been nothing but supportive to me and my family in every way. It just so happens that my wife is from the Philippines, we now have five kids and we are very thankful to people like the Rich's who have been very generous to us in both spirit and time. All for free, by the way, I've never stepped up to the plate and given a dime, so, I wasn't "special", that's just how he is, a great person, with a great family. If Rabbi Rich ever had a problem with me, I'd do some soul searching because I've never once known him to be anything but supportive, loving, generous, kind, etc etc etc. PS. I wasn't born Jewish, converted years ago, and I am treated like royalty by the Rich's. Very generous, very loving family.

The president of the shul made it a point to seek me out and welcome me as well. And this isn't a small synogogue. Now when I go it feels a bit like a family. As in most organizations, culture is dictated from the top - and Rabbi Weinberg is about the nicest guy you'll ever meet. I don't consider myself very religious, but being part of the shul has been a rewarding experience.

The congregation is warm and inviting. It is traditional but very welcoming to those of all backgrounds. Tiferet is small enough to make friends easily, but large enough to provide the life cycle event support one would expect from any synagogue. The programming is varied and appealing to a wide range of ages and interests. There are countless opportunities to become involved through volunteering. I have lived in Dallas for over 40 years and Tiferet is home because of the people who so willingly make you a part of their family. It's a great place!

We were politely greeted, shown around, and to say the truth, encountered a much more positive response, than the general vibe at our previous schul. We are still considering, however, Beth Israel seems to have really nice people with a leadership staff that cares about others.
