Jews do not speak like the reviewer who gave five stars and replied to the other one star review as that person did. We DO NOT believe in Jesus-EVER. When I was reading the blasting of "loving your sin" etc I cringed thinking, "when did we Jews become bible thumping thugs?" Then I saw that this was a "Messianic" Synagogue-PLEASE YELP REMOVE IT FROM SYNAGOGUES-IT IS A CHURCH. The difference between Jews and Christians is that Christ, a Jewish man, believed that Jews were becoming too much like Romans and needed to go back to their roots. He was NOT "baptised" he was given a cleansing called a Mikvah that was done slightly differently than typical as he already was born a Jew. Christians never existed at the time of Jesus nor after he passed away for a long time. Christianity were a sect of Jews who followed Jesus. The sect broke off because Jews never accepted Jesus as a Messiah, we see him as a Jew who lived and died. Please know Messianic "Jews" are just Christians trying to purport they are Jews but believe Jesus was the Messiah-contradictory to what any TRUE born or converted Jew believes. You know, like Sarah Palin said, you can put lipstick on a pig but.... Jews, at our very basic and most religious coreligionists, believe the so-called Old Testament to be G-d's word. Nevertheless 90% of Jews are far more loving and accepting. We never expel people from our places of worship-Jew or Gentile, gay or straight, black, Latino, Asian, etc. That is not who we are. We are a loving people and though some, few, among us may take our religious teachings verbatim, most of us take it as a general guidance. Being Jewish I know so many people who have gay, lesbian, transgender, insane, sane, every type in their families, they are never unwelcome in our community. Go get a Church because as the Christian book of "Revelation" 3:9 states: "Behold, I will make them of the synagogue of Satan, who say they are Jews, and are not, but do lie; behold, I will make them to come and worship before your feet, and to know that I have loved you." Little do most Christians know this was reflected to Jews for Jews as at the time it was written Christians still considered themselves Jews, so they condemn what they have become. NEVER HATE USING MY RELIGION AS YOUR CLOAK.

St. Catherine of…read moreSienna is our nearest church, then we tried St. Rita, and then we finally after a few visits decided that Prince of Prince was our parish. Why? Well the sense of community is amazing, yes we don't have kneelers, but that actually encourages us to be in communion with those around us, we greet each other, talk, find out about each other, welcome newcomers, and if you choose you can quiet yourself and pray and reflect. The arrangement of the church is definitely different and it does make you take notice the first time you come into our sanctuary, but it is like a tent in the dessert you can see the bones of it. You face each other, you are close no matter where you sit. The homilies always reflect current events and the readings, our liturgy is excellent. Our priests are really wonderful, Fr. Tom is our shepherd he is wonderful, calm and cool and funny, and always delivers a fantastic homily, you will learn from him each mass. Fr. Stephen our newly ordained parochial vicar is also growing by leaps and bounds, he has an old soul, a big booming voice and he loves to sing parts of the mass, he delivers a very nice homily and always uses the readings as his guide. Both our priests are very active with the parishioners, they get to know you, and appreciate you. We have many ministries for young , old and in between. We even feed you coffee and donuts, most Sundays and the days we don't it is the first of the month, time to eat a wonderful breakfast cooked up by our Knights of Columbus, you can't beat it. Omelets cooked to order, pancakes, waffles, eggs, sausage, bacon, biscuits and gravy, eggs benedict, hash brown casserole, fruit, coffee, juices, if you leave hungry then you can have a refund! It is all you can eat and it's a great way to meet your community. Very active Knights of Columbus , who are amazing in how much they do for the community and also they raised nearly $130,000 this year for wheelchairs! We have a wonderful event, monthly on Tuesday evenings during the school year called, Exalt, like a concert, fantastic music, lighting, a speaker and adoration, with several priests available for reconciliation. It is loud, bold and very well attended by young and old. College kids especially love this event. We have so much to offer, the list is long. The first UU church I attended had about 50 members and was so small it was hard to organize and get things done in the wider community. The second UU church was a much larger congregation of about 1500, where the place was so big and overwhelming that I didn't feel welcome. Horizon is just right at around 250. Big enough to be able to do amazing work to support our members and make a difference in the community, but small enough to still feel welcoming and tight-knit. I've found my spiritual home!

I have always been a doubter about the historical accuracy of mainstream christianity. Horizon allows me to be comfortable with my spiritual thoughts and not have to conform to a common creed. The birth of my daughter was the reason for my family looking for a church to join. The youth programs at Horizon are definitely one of the biggest plusses of this church. Your kids can learn religion in an environment that doesn't threaten them with eternal damnation if they wish to be different. Horizon is a "welcoming" congregation. That means they are fully accepting of gay members. That being said, there are very few gay people that attend the church. Still, mostly straight members of our congregation regularly participate in the Dallas Gay Pride parade. Gay weddings are performed by the minister. The Unitarian Universalist denomination was created in 1961 as a combination of the Unitarian and the Universalist Churches of America. Both churches have a long history starting with the early Christians. 'Unitarian' refers to the unity of God rather than being formed in 3 parts. 'Universalist' doctrine refers to a loving God who offers universal salvation to all people, not just those obedient to God. Over time the theology of the church has evolved to accept spiritual wisdom from beyond Christianity. Our worship services can include elements of Judaism, Hinduism, Buddhism, Humanism and Paganism. Horizon UU Church has been around since 1987. We moved to our current location in 1995 and recently completed new construction to expand the building. Horizon may not be everyone's cup of tea but it has been right for me.
