My favourite part about Menya is the tea. Not to say the food and service isn't awesome as well. But there's something about free tea that I really love. Maybe it's the "free bit". Ambiance: In comparison to the Menya Ramen over at Melbourne Central, this place is a lot more wide-open and spacious with decor that heavily reminds me of Ajisen Ramen. It's clean and not cramped which is really nice - gives you a bit of room to stretch and be comfortable during your meal. Customer Service: Really good. And by really good I mean I ordered hot tea at the counter and the cashier pointed out that they had free hot tea, which saved me a few dollars and I wanted to give her a hug. But besides that, the service was very attentive, quick with the food, and decently friendly. Food: I had the Ebi-Don, my classic favourite (prawn with egg sauce over rice) and a takeaway plastic tray of salmon sashimi, both decently good, cheap and well worth the value. The Ebi-Don had a tad bit too much onions/chives though. Sometimes it would really overpower the rest of the meal and took away rather than added. But the prawns, egg sauce, and rice were still decently good. Just minus a bit of greens and you've got a perfect Ebi-Don! --- That being said, I still loved the tea the most. Why? Beautiful meals! There's plenty of people who were getting takeaways at their fancy system at the front of this eatery, buy there's also plenty of room for diners upstairs. The staff are well conversant and courteous. The meals were delivered promptly and elegantly to each member of our group of six. The tonkatsu ramen was good (the meat just melted in my mouth!), and so was my grilled eel unagi meal. The Coke Zero was served in a cute bubble tea-like glass. Will be dropping by again! read more

I have never enter this place, it seems the biggest in size in the strip, but nothing about this place really urge me to enter. I tried the hot spicy ramen, it was quite delicious with a nice balance of sweetness and spiciness. Too bad only a tiny bit of meat but the top-up boiled egg sort of made up for it. So EVERY single person I know only comes to Menya for the Gyutan Don (Ox tongue rice bowl), and they do so for good reason. There is something comforting about the fact that you are eating the thinly sliced salivary gland of a cow and not wasting any bit of it. Not forgetting the fact that it tastes oh-so-good. I was kindly invited back to try Torasan again, after an initial bad experience the first time. Food: I'm pleased to say they toned down the amount of soy sauce in the veggie ramen since my first visit, leaving a flavoursome, but more well balanced broth. I actually couldn't believe how many noodles, veggies and bean sprout were in my bowl. It was such a generous portion and very filling. My other half ordered the spicy noodle ramen, he loved the lip-tingling flavour and the sweet flavour of the pork. Atmosphere/service: It's clear Torasan have come on leaps and bounds with the service. It's worth noting, they didn't know we had been invited back until the end of our visit. We were greeted pleasantly and promptly and staff were friendly and attentive throughout, taking time to ensure we understood the menu and felt happy placing our order. Food came incredibly quickly. I like the refit upstairs, which has turned some of the tables into booths, this allows a more private and intimate dining experience and would definitely make me more likely to return in the evenings. This is not super luxury or fancy ramen, the focus is much more on simple, tasty and fast eats. The menu has a few ramen choices including a very flavoursome vegetarian ramen. The signature chicken ramen is their most popular item and they also have classic pork based ramen. The sides are few with choices of Katsu, edamame and gyoza. Beers are cheap and they also offer a matcha green tea powder beer, which is very interesting and quite sweet. The venue is over two levels with a open kitchen on the ground floor and the seating upstairs. If you order takeaway there are computer screens to order. This restaurant has pretty simple layout and most of the furnitures are made from timber. Felt inviting upon entering the space. My childhood friend recommended the Gyu Tan Don even though she hasn't tried it yet. And my another friend decided to order soft shell crab ramen. The Gyu Tan Don was extremely flavorful. The meat was very tender and chewy. Portion was bigger than expected too. The rice was well cooked and I couldn't stop eating bite after bite. The ramen was pretty good too. Soup base wasn't too salty and the noodles were chewy. The soft shell crab was cooked perfectly as well. We were given hot green tea on the side as well. Service was excellent and the food pricing was considered reasonable. The downside of this place is the location. Not easy to remember. But overall, it was a good recommendation :) read more

I had the Torasan ramen which is a chicken broth, minced, spicy chicken with toppings of corn, bean sprouts and green onion. They could offer more selection for toppings, as there were no add-on options. The broth was flavourful and noodles were cooked just right. This is not one of my favourite spots but I will say that you get a decent bowl for $12, friendly service and they have takeaway options. They are also open every day and up to 1am on weekends. Whoever is on Gyu Tan duty today, please give them a raise! I ate in for a change and the serving size was enormous. I doggy-bagged half for later (I've already finished it...) Apart from the always delicious food, the service was quick and polite and the atmosphere is really pleasant. There's booths and wooden seats and unlike the Melbourne Central laneway Menya (which I love!!) there is room enough to sit inside. Seriously usually so cramped. We tried this place after many recommendations from Indonesian friends who studied abroad in Melbourne. Of course, we tried the recommended $14.50 Gyu Tan Don. This dish came with plenty of meat and rice. The flavor and texture were fine, but I don't understand why people would rave about it so much. It's just slices of fried ox tongue over rice. I guess this dish is hard to perfect, and apparently this restaurant does it best. The rest of us ordered ramen because the place is a ramen restaurant. We were all dissatisfied with the broth and noodles. The broth and pork meat smelled too much like pork. The gyoza ramen in particular had pieces of pork that we could not eat because of the strong taste of the meat. I got the tonkotsu ramen, ate the meat and some of the instant noodles, and switched my bowl with my boyfriend's Gyu Tan Don. I wish we went somewhere else to eat ramen. Delicious ramen with presentable ingredient. The broth is just perfect for my taste. Noodle is springy and I love it when I can slurp it easily. Love the water jugs with lemon and strawberries. I like my water with a bit of fruity kick. Water review aside, I love this place because of its generous portions and a plethora of tasty dishes. My favorite is the Gyu Tan Don, the Beef tounge over rice that can be ordered spicy. Those chilies really amped up the awesomeness of this dish. Other good ones are the Unagi Don, with the huge cut of grilled eel and the soft scrambled egg below; the chicken teriyaki don which are more intricate than usual since it has glass noodles, peas and assorted mushrooms on top of the chicken itself. and much others since I don't want to make this review painfully long. read more

This review is based on their service. I ordered through UberEats and both complaints I have are due to the fact that they don't list all of the ingredients in the food via the app. Both of the items I ordered were either missing things or contained something I can't eat. Spicy ramen had no spice bc they only put spice in the chicken not in the soup itself, but they didn't say it had chicken in dish at all and I can't eat chicken so I had no way of knowing. Fried rice contained pork and chicken but I don't eat these things, the photo on app only had veggies in it and there were no ingredients listed. When I rang the restaurant they said it was my issue bc I didn't say to leave those things out, but how can I do that if they don't put ingredients in the app and the photos are inaccurate?! I really want noodle at that time .. and then the other staff came who was at the cashier with the face being sarcastic and mean and told me "it cannot be changed", the staff even said sarcastically ""cannot be changed, otherwise it would be thrown away" .. and told lies that I actually ordered that one while im so sure I didn't because I actually POINTED the photo to that staff... I couldn't finish the meal because the rice with minced pork was extremely salty and the mango pudding I ordered was too sweet..
