A few of the alpacas at the farm.
    Seth A.

Topstall Farm is located in Roy, Washington, about 56 miles south of Seattle. Here for a 2 hour tour, you can learn about camelid animals including alpacas and llamas. It's just a brief 10 minute introduction about them, then you get to enter the barn and feed the alpacas with a bowl of pellets. Next, it's time for the main event...which is taking your own llama out for a one mile roundtrip hike through the forest. Along the way, the owner snaps a few pictures of you walking and handling the llama, including a brief recording. She then airdrops the clips to you at the end of the tour. Price is $85. Tours are given from Thursdays through Sundays at 11am and 2pm. You can sign up at their website which is topstallfarm.com. It's 10 people maximum per tour. If interested, they do offer half day tours for 4 total hours where you take your llama out for an extended period of time getting to have a picnic in the great outdoors before returning back to the farm. The price of this tour was $275. When I checked their website, these tours were given sporadically. I got to walk and hang out with Lafayette, the llama, who was so gentle and kind and gave me no problems. It was a pleasure spending time with him. Out on the farm, they only have male llamas and alpacas. They don't breed. And...Topstall Farm is not a rescue farm or sanctuary. Rules are you cannot pet or make nice to the alpacas or llamas. They don't like their space being invaded. They're not house pets like dogs. Their main purpose in life is to stay banded together as a group and avoid predators. At the end of the hike, you can wash your hands off inside the barn and you're offered complimentary snacks and drinks. They have a small gift shop to purchase a souvenir as a fond memory. Overall, I enjoyed the experience. I just would have liked more pictures and videos interacting with the llamas.

Topstall Farm recently went "viral" on TikTok with a great little video about the llama and alpaca experience. I live about 45 minutes away and couldn't wait to check it out. Marla, the farmer/proprietor/business owner, met us at the gate and was warm and welcoming. She told us all about the animals and their origins. I was confident that Marla always had the animals' best interest and safety in mind and that we were contributing to giving the animals a good experience, not using animals just to give us humans an experience. After an educational intro, we got to feed the alpaca and take the llamas for a walk in the woods. I gladly would have spent longer walking the llamas, it really was like a walking meditation. After the walk (about a mile, out and back), there were cold drinks and snacks and a gift shop where I bought yarn made from the alpaca we just met and fair-trade alpaca and llama gifts. I'm not one to play favorites (ok, maybe I am) but Coconut was my favorite alpaca, Milo was my favorite llama, Chester melted my husband's heart, and de Gaulle gave the best llama kisses. I highly recommend this unique way to spend a day for any adults looking to get a little connection with nature and animals.

A friend of mine and I recently went to Topstall Farms. As it turned out, we were the only ones in attendance, and practically being neighbors, may have stepped outside the box a little bit as Marla gave us her presentation and tour. I had been around llamas and alpacas before and had some knowledge of them but Marla is definitely the camelid guru. As luck would have it, I earned my sticker the second I walked through the gate to feed them. Marla's facility is very clean and her alpacas, and llamas are well fed and well maintained. The information she imparts, during the tour and the trek, does not go over one's head. My friend did not feel overwhelmed due to her lack of knowledge. If you knit or crochet, there are many varieties and beautiful colors of yarns for sale in her store. There are also blankets and other camelid related items. There is also a complimentary snack bar for refreshments before and after the trek. I highly recommend taking the tour. You won't be disappointed.

We had the absolute best time! We are from California and took a trip here to Washington for my birthday and this experience was one of the selling points for me. The animals are extremely well cared for and sweet and the approach Marla takes in taking care of them is spectacular. Truly one of the best experiences I have had in a long while.

We've visited Topstall Farms twice and love the experience. Llamas have a peaceful aura so it's such a treat to spend time with them. They are able to roam freely in the barn and in their fenced field. Marla, the host is wonderful and trusts her guests with the animals and provides a good amount of education about them. She's super passionate about llamas and alpacas and you can tell that she's happy to have visitors come and share in the experience. The tour consists of walking through the barn, feeding the alpacas, and taking the llamas on a walk.

Bonding while on the most relaxing walk in the woods!

My partner and I had the most fun visiting Topstall Farm. Marla is not only incredibly knowledgeable about the alpacas and llamas, but shares her knowledge with such enthusiasm and joy that it's contagious. All of the animals are treated so well and every activity is planned with their comfort at the forefront of decisions. Marla happily captures plenty of wonderful pictures to commentate the adventure. The time flies by as you move throughout the experience, but the memories of the day last far beyond. Worth every penny! I'm really looking forward to family and friends visiting so I can go again!

My partner and I had an amazing time here at the farm! The animals were so precious and it was clear they were VERY well-cared for. The host was very friendly and knowledgeable and put a lot of effort in making sure everyone was having a good time and comfortable. The experience is very enjoyable, it starts off with learning some facts about the animals and then feeding some alpaca's. Then you go on a well shaded beautiful hiking trail with one of the llama's by your side. They were very well trained, but the host lets you know some tips to better walk with them if you have any issues. After the hike we were offered some refreshing beverages and treats and got to see some very impressive and beautiful handmade rugs from the alpaca's fur themselves. The host takes pictures during your experience and sends them to you at the end so you can enjoy yourself without a phone in your hand trying to capture the precious moments. I would highly recommended this experience for any fellow animal lovers!

Our first interaction was feeding. It was a great way to introduce us.

It was a well organize event. Our family of senior citizens enjoyed our nature walk and time with the llamas. Seeing a picture of a llama always brings good memories and a smile due to going to Topstall. Glad I won the Llama sticker.

Had the best time exploring Topstall Farm! Such a unique experience to be able to feed and walk them. It was my first time being so close to llamas and alpacas and I felt completely comfortable with them. Marla was super knowledgeable and I could tell she was very passionate about what she does. I wouldn't hesitate to book any experience at TopStall Farm! I also really enjoyed the cute gift shop at the end. 100/10!
