He was not thrilled about the idea of having to do more homework on a daily basis but I took him to the Kumon center in Castle Rock and after the initial visit he told me how much he liked Mr. Leo and how he could possibly enjoy it after all.. Its been about 5 months since he has been in the program and right before the new year, I received an update from his teacher complimenting how much progress he's made in the last few weeks. My son even came home one day and said "Mom, I got moved to a new math group in class and guess what? Its the smart group!". Hearing those words made me realize that this program is working for him and I only hope he'll continue on this path. I can tell he is more comfortable with numbers, has more confidence on his math homework from school and passes his math assessments with higher scores than I've ever seen. It does take a lot of persistence from us parents to motivate to get the daily worksheets done. We certainly have our good and bad days but Kumon has been great and my son really enjoys going to the center on the assigned days. Will not use them again. Then, finally when I tried to provide them with feedback in their app, it would not accept my feedback that's interesting so you obviously don't want feedback. I had a long conversation with Philip Fancher about my goals, availability and needs which were fairly straightforward. A window for time on Wednesday and full flexibility on Saturdays over the next 6 weeks. I was assured that I would be paired with someone who could accommodate and was highly rated. So the first person I was paired with didn't even come close to being able to accommodate my Wednesday schedule. They assured me they would get this resolved. When I was paired with someone new, our initial conversation was 20min of him gloating about how well educated he was and that he could do this no problem and continued to talk at me before ever asking me how he could help or what I'd want to get out of this relationship. But I figured I'd still try to give it a shot. When he asked for my materials and I sent it, his email did not download the entirety of the message for some reason and instead of responding to the email to find a resolution, I was texted and then called and actually yelled at for not knowing how to follow instructions. This gem of a human's name is Nosa Omoregie and I promise you, if you go with this company after all this, do yourself a favor and try to avoid this individual as he lacks common decency, patience and comes with a serious anger problem. When I explained the issue in an email to Phillip and asked for a refund (which according to terms and conditions I have 30 days to do), I have yet to receive a response. I spoke with the live chat person earlier today and apparently I have an account manager that I was none made aware of and was told she would reach out. Still nothing! Not only has this been the WORST customer service experience, I'm also $1,200 in the hole for something that may never be refunded. I have submitted a credit card dispute so hopefully that works! If not, small claims court, here we come.

Shout out to Angie and the Tutor Doctor gang…read more In the fall as Covid and online learning drug on, we were pulling out our hair trying to get middle schooler and elementary schooler to engage in classes and complete assignments. Both kiddos who typically do well in school were struggling. When we engaged Tutor Doctor, they answered all our questions and matched us with an amazing tutor, Angie. Angie comes to our house. She helps our middle-schooler with 7th grade pre-algebra, Spanish, and paragraph structure and CERs for language arts. She then assists our 3rd grader with spelling, handwriting, and division. When she the kids transitioned back to in-person school she was able to pivot teaching styles. It's been so easy and incredible to have one tutor that is able to help our two kids at our house.

I appreciate that the camps are fun and educational, and I also appreciate that the attendees are diverse. The camps are pricier than others in the area, but they also have a small student-to-staff ratio of 6:1 that I prefer. (I find that larger ratios mean that well-intentioned adults don't always know what all the kids are saying/doing and my little ones pick up habits that I don't like). I also echo the challenge with the camp hours: 8am-4pm (with an extra daily cost for this extended care rather than 9am-3pm standard hours) is tricky for working parents. Even though the hours aren't ideal, we'll be sending our kids here again.
